I agree. The two girls I'm living with both object to any non-christian music, so I have to listen with headphones if I want to, and I agree there is a lot of rubbish and stuff you don't want to be filling your head with in the secular world, but there are also a lot of talented people who are *real*. Michelle Branch is great by the way, I definitly agree!

Gravatar Yeah, I hear ya Neely. It's important to feed ourselves healthy food as well as healthy media. I tend to straddle the line on it. One reason, and it's not an excuse I promise, is that I want to know what's influencing youth and our culture at large. How can I relate if I hide on a mountian? Another is that just Christian all the time simply gets too sweet. It's like being in a church family that never talks about pain, doubt or fear because, GASP, that must mean we're weak. I'm not expressing myself well, but I suppose I just want to agree with you. Give me honesty any day. Pain hurts (heh, you can qoute me!) but if we deal with it, that can promote healing. Thanks for sharing what you said. I think we could spend 2 hours over expresso discussing this topic!

Gravatar I listen to secular music for two reasons.
1. There music is better. There is not a whole lot of good Christian music out there. I have a hard time listening to something just because it's christian if I don't like the music.
2. It get's me out that christian bubble we put ourselves in to easily sometimes. some music is crap, but most is just people expressing themselves. it helps us understand the people around us.

Gravatar Excellent post and comments. This is such a great subject, yet one that I don't think everyone would ever agree on. I do agree with you guys though in that a lot of artists that are considered secular produce some music that is rich with spirituality. I just wish there was more of it on the non-Christian radio stations these days.
