I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

GravatarI heard he had a man date with destiny.

Gravatarthere's little that is more full of self loathing than a gay "social values" conservative. but a gay, Bush supporting, constitutional-amendment puching, "family-values" spewing, Santorum-choked little piece like Mehlman, now that is a sight to behold.

GravatarI was wondering what all this talk was of Bush's man date.

There he is.

GravatarYou know, we do have to unite and work togethe with the Bush administration. Hey, after all, we lost.

For an olive branch, how about Democrats run a full page ad in southern newspapers, thanking Bush for being "inclusive" and selecting a GAY MAN to head the RNC? Let's be magnanimous, and thank Bush for this gesture.

GravatarA reminder: Hatred and bigotry are NOT moral values.

Gravataris ken mehlman gay? what am i missing here?

no way

GravatarS in Mich -- I'd contribute to that. How about in all states where the gay marriage amendment was on the ballot?

Gravataris ken mehlman gay?

Yes. Don't tell the fundies.

GravatarLet's not jump the gun here - Mehlman hasn't accepted yet, and I hear Jews for Hitler is offering him more money...

GravatarOut them all.

Every fucking one of them.

All this bullshit of playing nice and proper has got to stop, permanently. Obey the laws, but the mythical "rules" are gone forever.

Kick them in the balls and don't ever stop.

GravatarArafat burial denied
I find it amazing that Ariel Sharon is denying the wishes of Arafat to be buried in the Palestinian area of Jeruselem. There have been many cemeteries in America that have refused burial rights to those of the Jewish faith. Of course, that practice has been universally ended as being seen as a barbic, profoundly ignorant way to treat the recently departed.

GravatarOk, but is Mary Cheney still a lesbian?

GravatarThis man stand for all that I oppose, but I could not support outing him. That's the kind of fighting that they do, not us. Now, I would support Drudge outing him. There's justice there. One closeted Republican outing another. I fully support Republicans eating their own.

Gravataris ken mehlman gay?

Yes. Don't tell the fundies.

Cat's out of the bag, suckers!

But seriously,

Wasn't w rumored to have had an ongoing affair with a southern mayor or some other "erected" official?

GravatarLet the outing begin in earnest. Please.

Hypocritical bastards.

GravatarMary Cheney is no lesbian.

Trust me.

Though I hear Jenna Bush is bi-curious, at least when she gets a few drinks in her.

GravatarLet's not jump the gun here - Mehlman hasn't accepted yet, and I hear Jews for Hitler is offering him more money...

Who cares?

Make him answer the question. He's supporting a party that is three steps away from putting the queers on a train to nowhere, so he should tell us whether he would be on that train.

And whether he's accepted yet or not isn't relevant. Any candidate they put up for ANYTHING has something to hide. Find it, expose it, and bludgeon them with it until nothing remains of their political career but a bloody, pulpy stump.

All of them. RNC chair, neighborhood dog catcher, Karl's pool boy. Wreck them all.

GravatarUh, I think that was a joke, Seraphiel.

Gravatarshit .. mehlman and pee-wee squaring off in campaign land ..

"i know you are but what am I?"

"i know you are but what am I?"

"i know you are but what am I?"

"i know you are but what am I?"

"fag!"

"circle jerk king!"

"weasel!"

"infinity!"

a toast to the advancement of political discourse in America

Gravatargastrognome = loser

GravatarThat's the kind of fighting that they do, not us.

i disagree strongly with that. people like shrock, mehlman (if he's gay)... they are actively and vigorously trying to set back their own, personal rights on a day to day basis. it's just that simple.

i can't even think of any other equivalent with race equality or whatever. it's just shrocking, and totally unbelievable to me that someone would hate themselves so much that they go out and work for a cause and for people that the KNOW hate who they really are... and thinks they will go to hell simply for being born that way.

throw these fuckers to the fire. if nothing else all the other self-hating gays will be that much more likely to break away and admonish the fuck out of what the republican party really is. you know they think it's, it's just a matter of admitting it. oh wait, that's the case for every single person in the republican party, period. admitting how crooked it is.

GravatarThe Republican Kicker Returns

That southern mayor that is the "apple of George's eye would be Victor Ashe, and now you know why he doesn't want you to forget Poland.

Gravatar"This man stand for all that I oppose, but I could not support outing him. That's the kind of fighting that they do, not us."

Um, sure. That's why we keep losing. Sometimes, you have to learn. Sooner would be better than later.

GravatarTiger Woods was on Leno and Leno brought up Woods nickname at Stanford of 'Urkle'. He showed an unrelated picture of Woods as a kid wearing large glasses. Leno then quipped, 'I thought you looked like Imelda Marcos in that picture.' Is it just me or is this wildly inappropriate?

GravatarSyntallic, you're killing me here.

That's some funny shit.

GravatarI have not broken any sodomy laws for the required fifteen-year period of my background check.

Gravataran honest initial reaction?

it's just you

Gravatarinstant blogwhoring, Lisa ...

This Week in PLO
Welcome to the PLO. The Dictator's now cold, the First Lady, Sura, is like Imelda Marcos on methamphetimine, the jihadists are revolting ... and Michael Savage just got the role of his lifetime. The Near-East Division of the CIA, drawing an eerie parallel between the lesser-known Richard Dreyfuss movie, Moon Over Parador, have cast the ultra-conservative talk show host as the now deceased militant's body double until the Israelis can find a malleable replacement for lasting peace on the West Bank and Gaza.

GravatarY'know, I know a coupla wingnuts that are gay and in the closet, and if there was any positive outcome in outing them, it'd be done, like Right Now. In the long run, they'd thank me, if they didn't kill me first.

(Do you hear me Brian J?)

Hypocrisy should be exposed.

GravatarLook people, with everything going on, it's not all a closeted gay problem.

Don't blame us, breeders.

GravatarSick and Confusing video of Mehlman and Shrock having sweating Man sex while sadistically shouting out Christian Conservative Talking points and laughing in between moans to be released soon.

Developing...

GravatarUh, I think that was a joke, Seraphiel.

Well, yes.

Absolutely. It's time for adult swim. The squeamish among us can stay in the wade pool if they wish.

I'm not prepared to get on the cattle car to a neo-Auschwitz because some of you believe you learned everything you need to know in kindergarten.

GravatarDamn it. Too soon. Should have let the man have the job, follow him around for a while and find a boyfriend or something, and then nail him with the hypocrisy about next year.

For the record, I'm a gay man who believes these hypocrits must be exposed, but at the politically best time.

Chris / Vegas

Gravatar"Um, sure. That's why we keep losing. Sometimes, you have to learn. Sooner would be better than later."

We're not going to win by becoming what deplore. I reckon we're better off keeping the big tent open for business and wait for the frightened moderates to show up on our doorstep.

GravatarAbsolutely. It's time for adult swim. The squeamish among us can stay in the wade pool if they wish.

personally, i think i'll wait until they start sending armed tanks to break up protests before i make the switch to playing dirty with these republicans.

oh wait.

GravatarGoddammit...

Why do they need to spoil everything by letting the cat out of the bag too early? They should have WAITED for the RNC to choose Mehlmann. Now they'll pass him over because he has other engagements, or some other drivel.

GravatarAbsolutely. It's time for adult swim. The squeamish among us can stay in the wade pool if they wish.

GravatarI reckon we're better off keeping the big tent open for business and wait for the frightened moderates to show up on our doorstep.

Sure. Maybe Bush will start a war on lies, and then people will certainly pay attention to the issues....

GravatarKerry already took the gloves off on Bush. It simply didn't work.

GravatarI'm not prepared to get on the cattle car to a neo-Auschwitz because some of you believe you learned everything you need to know in kindergarten.

Me neither. It's up to us to start the coming revolution, like always. Contact me at steve1234@shreve.net

There are those like me from "The Confederacy" who will fight for us all. I just can't take it anymore.

GravatarKerry already took the gloves off on Bush. It simply didn't work.

What does the sun look like in your world?

GravatarIf Bush can teach us anything, results don't actually matter anymore, it's all about packaging.

Therefore, the best thing to do would be for gay-rights groups to LOUDLY proclaim how much they like Mehlman because he could steer the discourse on gay-rights from the RNC. And if reporters ask why, well, isn't it obvious...?

More deadly than a pit of vipers.

GravatarI may be in the minority, but I believe there is going to be fight for the soul of the GOP. Arnold and Rudy don't want to have anything to do with the likes of Coburn and DeMint. The GOP is going to rip itself to pieces in the next four years. It's already beginning with Specter. Wait for it.....

GravatarS in Mich -- I'd contribute to that. How about in all states where the gay marriage amendment was on the ballot?
Jo Public | Email | Homepage | 11.11.04 - 12:25 am | #

Why not? Wouldn't hurt.

Yes, the gay marriage ban passed in Michigan, with 58% of the vote. (Lowest among the 11 states with it on the ballot, BTW.) The gay civil rights movement has some work to do, even in the Blue States.

By way of contrast, Alabama voted to KEEP their Jim Crow provisions in their Constitution.

I'll stay in Michigan, thank you.

GravatarAnybody want to contact me to plan, feel free. Everybody is reacting to their shit. No more. WE ACT NOW!

GravatarPlease stop the unsubstantiated claims about election fraud. Bush campaigned fair and square.

GravatarI say out them. It's no different than Rush and his oxycontin and Bill "values" Bennett's gambling. These people win political points by condemning others for what they're quietly doing themselves, and that hypocrisy needs to be called!

Gays like Mary Cheney, Schrock and Drier retain the right to do themselves what they persecute others for, that "nudge, nudge, wink, wink, we'll just look the other way." They figure it's fine for them to bend and break their own rules because they're the rich and powerful. Talk about an arrogant elite!

Outing the scum is especially needed to try to stop the flow of hatred that these people profit by. That hate hurts people, physically, financially and emotionally. And sometimes it kills them quite literally. We've already seen the thugs on the street go after an innocent Portugeuse man. How long will it be before another Matthew Shepherd hits the news?

It's not a debate club anymore, people, it's a slugfest. "Gentlemen's rules" will get liberals killed.

GravatarAnd one more thing! These christian GOP voters are yellow dog Republicans. You can't say ANYTHING to change their minds. You cannot win there. Focus on the moderates, let the rest go.

GravatarThe GOP is going to rip itself to pieces in the next four years. It's already beginning with Specter. Wait for it.....
gastrognome

ha ha That's your only hope? The GOP will rip itself apart? Hope it gets you through.

GravatarOT, but late nighters need a laugh. This red stater says check it out. (rough language, divisive philosphy warning, rated R for yearrrgh, click homepage)

GravatarKonelli was the only straight militant who spoke out and the other straights here mocked him. What liberal pussies you all are.

GravatarThe GOP will probably rip itself apart but only after there is no-one else left to rip. No, we are their chosen enemies and they are going to keep attacking us in different ways. The idea that smalfish pointed out in another thread that now we are the angry ones and the wingnuts the innocent victims is probably the next step. Then when we are back to being as nice as dishwater they'll continue bashing us everywhere. And so on, until there are no Democrats left. Or any other people; only podpeople from the outer space planet of Jesutia.

GravatarI like the idea of taking out a full page ad- but only if it's got a nice photo of him holding hands with his man-date.

GravatarThese christian GOP voters are yellow dog Republicans. You can't say ANYTHING to change their minds.

gastrognome is a fount of wisdom, well intentioned, yet completely out of touch.

Have you even been paying attention?

Gravatarwhy are you getting all worked up about mehlman? getting a fundie to admit they were wrong about anything is fruitless - outing people like him and dreier is something of a weekend sport in the big picture of things ... sure it would be fun to watch them go down in a ball of flames - the ridicule is the only thing that makes it worthwhile

if attacking mehlman isn't followed by a harsh indictment of hypocritical rethug values, we'll be staring at the ceiling on election night four years from now

GravatarI haven't suggested we just lay back and think of England. We just need better issue with which bludgeon them with. And, kids, who's gay and who isn't is not our winning issue.

GravatarAnd so on, until there are no Democrats left. Or any other people; only podpeople from the outer space planet of Jesutia.

ha ha You're so right. I've pondered and attack on fundie churches and then know they'll squal and point how persectured they are.

Gravatarnew frank rich column in the times makes a good point-the disconnect between fox news consevative "values" and the rest of the murdoch empires' willingness to air anything if it will turn a profit. seems like there is an opportunity in there for us somewhere

GravatarErr, pondered, as in, what would the aftermath look like.....

If they begin taking my bros away, it's the fuck on then.

I'm giving warning now.

GravatarMr. Tenet has earned well over $500,000 in speaking fees from about 20 appearances, associates said. He is negotiating for a lucrative book contract. But when he speaks to large groups, he does so only under ground rules intended to keep his remarks off the record.

Gravatarperseputrid

Gravatar I've pondered and attack on fundie churches and then know they'll squal and point how persectured they are.
Incognito

let them squeal all night ... the point is getting them disillusioned with going to vote in november -- the rethugs have been playing divide and conquer with our constituencies since roger ailes first buried his integrity with trickie dick ... depending on a fundie to go vote election cycle after election cycle is like depending on the youth vote ... it's all about how much they feel disenfranchised (sp?)

Gravatarzzzzzzzzz. But Arafats dead. Where are kei and yuri?

Gravatarperseputrid = fundie

GravatarThe hypocracy that pervades the GOP is astonishing.Yet in its simpllicity,it must be admired.Point the finger away from yourself and blame the other person/party over and over and over ad infinitum. It seems to work so well.

There is no known cure for this disease anymore.Kerry might have been our last hope of defeating this but he and the democratic party failed us.

Sure we can out all the gay repubs we can find.Sure we can point out all the hypocracies, but untill someone actually ......I'm not sure the is an untill.

Untill what?

FOr the record,I am now all in favor of outting them all.THe party of hate and fear neeeds a little of the "bring them down to earth" mentality on this issue.

GravatarYou bozos still here posting your spew? Bwahahaha!

Gravatarslightly OT: watch the left-leaning columnists go about their dissection of the rethugs -- they got put in a corner and now they're pissed

also, wingnut radio doesn't know what to do with itself now that they are in control of all houses of government -- some of them are already attacking the preznut over this immigration flap ... the rethugs will start to get stupid and they'll leave themselves wide open for a strong opposition party -- if our party has the nuts to get rough on them

GravatarYou bozos still here posting your spew?

Till the cows come baybee, till the cows come home.

Gravatarslightly OT: watch the left-leaning columnists go about their dissection of the rethugs -- they got put in a corner and now they're pissed

Frank Rich absolutely kills it. Fun.

Gravatar"We're not going to win by becoming what deplore"

Don't forget to make a distinction between our policy goals and our tactics vis-a-vis elections.

It is one thing to sell out on things like gay marriage, abortion, etc. Compromising on these issues for the sake of picking up enough votes to add a few Southern/midwestern votes -- which is a dicey proposition anyway -- would be very wrong. If we compromise too much on policy issues, "we" risk becoming "them".

But with regard to getting into office, it's a different story completely. Here, anything goes. If that means outing W. for using cocaine, even though we don't believe that matters, or shining a light on the sexual proclivities of certain prominent Repubs, then so be it. Once we get into power, then we can put our moral principles into action.

Until then, it's balls-to-the-wall, no-holds-barred, WAR.

GravatarPlease click my home page and read the article.

It is so not being reported on,yet affects SO many people.

Gravatar"Till the cows come baybee, till the cows come home."

Oh, I don't doubt that!

GravatarTHEY STOLE THE LAST THREE ELECTIONS!

I'm not going to abide by that.

GravatarIt strikes me as a little counterproductive to oppose the RNC chair because of the possibility that he is gay. Of course, I do believe that since Repugs have made such an issue out of homosexuality, their hypocrisy should be exposed, but in terms of tactical planning... what good does it do if we figure out a way to prevent Mehlman from chairing the RNC? It's not as if the Repugs can't find a bigger fraud and liar. It dovetails with the celebrations that Ashcroft has resigned - what, do you think GWB is suddenly going to appoint someone that we agree with? 2:1 that every Bush appointee that follows a resignation or term end will be qualitatively "worse" than the original officeholder.

I may be misunderstanding the Mehlman issue. But, I reiterate, it's not as if they can't find someone worse.

GravatarTHEY STOLE THE LAST THREE ELECTIONS AND WILL NOW PERMANENTLY ENSHRINE MY NON-CITIZENSHIP IN THE US CONSTITUTION?

Nah, it's on now.

Gravatar"Kerry already took the gloves off on Bush. It simply didn't work."

AHAHAHAHAHAHA......

Oh, sorry.

Kerry did little confrontation until after the debates, at which time, admittedly, some of his surrogates started hitting back a bit, and Kerry ramped it up a *little bit* himself, but still, he pulled his punches, just like he did during the debates. He could have hit a lot harder, and a lot sooner. Choices were made by Kerry to not be confrontational - they were most likely wrong - and now we all must deal with it.

GravatarOT, but speaking of fake news, the Daily Show had a woman in florida who forgot to check the box that said she wasn't crazy, so she wasn't allowed to vote. Now is that true or not and has any one else covered it?

GravatarIn Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Today is Armistice Day.

GravatarFighting like the rethugs would actually mean that we lied and cheated and covered up messes and slandered anyone against us and threaten people and scared them into voting for us...we are not doing that and won't have to...there is plenty out there for us to point out. It is more a matter of getting it out in the mainstream. But the louder and longer we shout eventually they will have to listen. Especially when these poor red-staters kids get killed in iraq for bushco's oil and they can't pay for their house anymore, and their children are so stupid that they can't even get into a local junior college. GIVE THEM HELL...pun intended

GravatarAttorneys for the Kerry campaign said Monday that they did not believe the outcome of the Ohio vote - which gave President Bush the electoral votes needed to win - could possibly change; they have discouraged speculation that voting irregularities caused Kerry's loss.

Gravatar"He could have hit a lot harder, and a lot sooner"

I want to know what on Earth Kerry could have said about Bush that he didn't say?

Tired of people blaming Kerry for what happened. Kerry's campaign wasn't perfect, but it was pretty damn good.

Do you really think it would have made a difference for Kerry to point out what a failure Bush has been a few hundred more times?

Bush's record was there for everyone to see. And the people decided they liked it (assuming the election was on the up-and-up). Bottom line: there's nothing Kerry could have done to convince these idiots.

Kerry in '08!

GravatarI want to know what on Earth Kerry could have said about Bush that he didn't say?

HOw about the blatant attempt ot make everything in our government a goddamned secret.

How about Junior failed to protect us on 9/11.

How about Junior's administrative staff approved the failures at Abu Ghraib.

How about the fact that the war was actually based in lies instead of saying it was "the wrong war at the wrong time".

Kerry was caught in his own political speak. He was trying to run a campaign that he thought should be ran gentlemanly and rove thought it was a war to end all wars.

In the end Kerry didnt say enough.

ANd he still refuses to say enough.

Kerry=gentile.

His surrogates werent allowed to come on television near enough with to little to say.

Hell Kerry wouldnt even let them go on FOX.

Nuff said.

Gravatar"It strikes me as a little counterproductive to oppose the RNC chair because of the possibility that he is gay."

The point is not to oppose him per se, the point is very clearly to use the hypocrisy of the right against them - hoist them on their own closeted petard. If they want another gay RNC chairman - great! Let's just make sure that the Freepers are clear on what they are getting.

GravatarIn Flanders fields the poppies grow..

GravatarBrownshirts on the march!

More than 20 ABC affiliates around the country have announced that they won't take part in the network's Veterans Day airing of "Saving Private Ryan," saying the acclaimed film's violence and language could draw sanctions from the Federal Communications Commission.

The decisions mark a twist in the conflict over the aggressive stand the FCC has taken against obscenity and profanity since Janet Jackson flashed the world during the last Super Bowl halftime show.

Steven Spielberg's Oscar-winning movie aired on ABC with relatively little controversy in 2001 and 2002, but station owners -- including several in large markets -- are unnerved that airing it Thursday could bring federal punishment. The film includes a violent depiction of the D-Day invasion and profanity.

"It would clearly have been our preference to run the movie. We think it's a patriotic, artistic tribute to our fighting forces," Ray Cole, president of Citadel Communications, told AP Radio. The company owns three ABC affiliates in the Midwest.

Other stations choosing to replace the movie with other programming are located in Atlanta, Dallas, Honolulu, New Orleans, Milwaukee, Phoenix, Orlando, Fla., and Charlotte, N.C. They are owned by a variety of companies, including Cox Television, Tribune Broadcasting Corp., Hearst-Argyle Television Inc., Belo Corp. and Sinclair Broadcast Group...

Cole cited recent FCC actions and last week's re-election of President Bush as reasons for replacing "Saving Private Ryan" on Thursday with a music program and the TV movie "Return to Mayberry."

GravatarYou know, late at night, it really sounds like a bad parody of sports talk radio in here...

Gravatar"Kerry was caught in his own political speak. He was trying to run a campaign that he thought should be ran gentlemanly and rove thought it was a war to end all wars."

I really think that Kerry made all of these points. He pointed out the problems with the Patriot Act, he said that Bush hasn't done enough to protect US from terrorism, etc.

Maybe there were a few details that some of us would have liked to hear, but it's not like Kerry wasn't highly and harshly critical of Bush -- he was.

The problem was simply that for 56 million (or whatever) people, no criticism of Bush would stick. These people are not members of the "reality-based" community. The more vociferous the charges against Bush, the more they would have been offended that someone dared criticize Dear Leader.

Everything that was wrong with the first Bush term was on full public display. Kerry didn't really even need to point it out; it was right there in the open for everyone to see. They saw it and they liked it enough to ask for seconds.

Gravatarbut the real crime is that the democrats refuse to fight fire with fire.

the way i view it, this is the battle for stalingrad. the nazis must be defeated.

drop the gloves. this is a bare-knuckle contest.

marquis of queensbury rules. meaning no rules.

that the demfascists refuse to fight tells me that they like what is going down...that their major contributors have called the play, and the demfascists can just play kitten and get away with it.

the demfascists need a tough guy. otherwise, they will be punking for the repfascists for decades.

OUT MEHLMAN. AND ALL THE OTHERS.

Gravatarwhat good does it do if we figure out a way to prevent Mehlman from chairing the RNC? It's not as if the Repugs can't find a bigger fraud and liar.

I think that you're missing the point. Mehlman isn't running for elected office. He is trying to become the head guy in the Republican Party. This is one case where it's better for us if the Pugs do find a bigger fraud and liar. They are trying to find the best guy to run their party. It would be disruptive for them if that process were run off the rails.

GravatarI sort of doubt the premise of the post, but that's no reason not to make political use of it anyway. I know women who have been hit upon by Mehlman, but none that have taken him up on it.

GravatarThe problem was simply that for 56 million (or whatever) people, no criticism of Bush would stick. These people are not members of the "reality-based" community. The more vociferous the charges against Bush, the more they would have been offended that someone dared criticize Dear Leader.

I don't think that it was just the unquestioning Bush supporters that decided the election. I suspect the true waffling undecideds had a lot to do with it. Did anyone notice that whenever Kerry had access to the American people that his poll numbers would go up? After the convention and during the debates. Then his poll numbers would slide downhill again for no apparent reason. I think there were a fair number of people who just could not believe their lyin' eyes. They looked at the fraud standing next to Kerry and just could not just could not bring themselves to vote for Kerry. After all, to their thinking, Daddy had protected them from the big bad terrorists.

Gravatarhe's got purdy lips.

GravatarOK, you guys made me wade through 80+ comments just to find out that some guy named Ken is gay? Frankly, let 'em, and don't bother telling all the Repubs. Just start commenting on how well dressed Kenneth is. Oh, and make more allusions to hot, sweaty man-sex than he can handle. I bet we can have him taking potshots at passersby from some university clocktower by midterms. (Purdue is particularly nice in that respect).

Gravatar"After all, to their thinking, Daddy had protected them from the big bad terrorists."

In retrospect, this might be the simplest, most obvious, and most accurate explanation of why Bush won.

Without an absolutely disastrous economy, without another major terrorist attack after 9/11, unseating Bush was an almost impossible task. The fact that Kerry came as close as he did speaks to the effectiveness of his candidacy and his campaign.

I think the Dems should run Kerry again in '08. The knock on the Dems is that they are flippy-floppy; well, show the country that we haven't wavered one bit, that four years later, we still believe exactly the same things we did in '04.

Assuming that Bush makes an even bigger mess of his 2nd term, Kerry could effectively run on one premise: see, I told you so.

Gravatar"I know women who have been hit upon by Mehlman, but none that have taken him up on it."

Ture or not - it's the "pigfucker" strategy. If it's not true - make the son of a bitch deny it! If it is true - well now, let's see what the fundies think of this wonderful news.

GravatarThere won't be a next election.

GravatarOT: Just checking on what some Lebanese had to say about Falloujah. They said the US entered the city with 70-ton tanks that were so big they could not fit down the street. Iraqi allies were forbidden to carry anything but Kalachnikovs and old RPGs (insurgent issue). Defections every day. The insurgents themselves are wearing stolen Iraqi forces uniforms. More than half the mosques have been destroyed.

GravatarWake up! WWIII has already started! they are shuffeling the DOMESTIC people around not the defence dept. (that new guy makes asscrotch look timid)

There won't be a next election.

How bout this - "...blah blah which makes civil right quaint."

Gravataranon gets the prize.

personally, knowing what i know about amerikan politics, none of us have ever encountered a fair vote count in any presidential election in our lifetimes.

anyone want to dispute that?

anon thinks that elections will become suspended. this could be an accurate prophesy.

i just don't think so. particularly since the electorate is content to have the vote count manipulated. in other words, why would you inflame the electorate by cancelling elections when you can get away with altering the vote?

and surely this insight is why the demfascists refrain from contesting the vote....they pray to be able to manipulate the vote again as they did decades ago, may still be manipulating in certain districts.

amerika has never been anything close to an honest democracy. it has always been a history of who could steal more, steal faster, steal earlier.

for whatever reasons, the demfascists for the last decade or so have preferred to roll over and let the repfascists steal the country. surely the demfascists must be getting their cut. so it must be that the demfascists are satisfied with less, are lazier.

but they are still getting some bucks passed to them under the table. and doing very little for the emollient.

that is the state of the political world these days.

lazy demfascist. energetic repfascists. and as cockburn and silverstein said, not a dime's worth of difference.

sigh.

GravatarDa Yoopers, I agree wholeheartedly. Make 'em deny it. You'll note that I did say we should use it, true or not. I don't particularly care. The right has caused all they claim to hate to come to pass. I'm becoming their definition of postmodernist. There's no such thing as truth. There's stuff that works, and stuff that doesn't work.

GravatarIf the Dems cannot filibuster Abu Ghraib Gonzalez then they are useless. This is a gift from the Gods of Irony - watch our spineless compatriots blow it. Yeah, you know they will.

Gravatar"
If the Dems cannot filibuster Abu Ghraib Gonzalez then they are useless.

Is a filibuster a realistic way to block a nomination? I thought this kind of thing only worked in "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington".

I fear that we are fucked.

Jesus, does everyone realize just how fucked we are? How fucked as a result of Nov. 2?

Nov. 2 was a DISASTER.

GravatarI agree that there was not more that Kerry could have done. 9-11 was a shock to everybody. But a good segment of the population became unhinged by it. They had a false sense of invulnerability about America that was shattered by the event. Bush had to become the strong father figure in the mold of Roosevelt. I suspect that my reaction that day was different than most. I feared for how our country was going to change more than I feared the terrorists. The thought that was very clear to me that day that I expressed to one of my co-workers was that; this is like Pearl Harbor, and W aint exactly FDR.

I suspect that many or most on this board had a similar reaction. But we have to remember that on 9/11/01 most Americans had no idea who the Taliban or Bin Laden was. These are people that never had to give a gnats ass worth of care to foreign policy and all of a sudden foreign policy grabbed them by the throat. That's why so many of our countrymen are so clueless about Iraq and our leaders, they don't want to know, they just want daddy to make it better.

That's what Kerry was up against. It was an uphill battle and he did pretty well given what he had to fight.

GravatarAnother Bruce -

Like you said in your excellent post, they just want daddy to make it better.>/i> The pity is that a "strong father figure" would have led with reason, not with fear. Bush stoked the fear to further his political ends. More's the pity.

I still wish Kerry would have pointed out the immorality of the war and opened the red-staters eyes to the innocent dead Iraqi population. Many say that our citizens don't give a damn about the lives of others, and Kerry would have lost traction with that argument, but I bet he could have opened some eyes and explained to the "morals and values" crowd that all innocent civilian life is sacred. Of course, everyone should know that already, but a strong father figure, a real leader, would also have the ability to teach and lead the weak and fearful.

GravatarRe: Saving Private Ryan.
The White House Office of American Moral Values and Virtues (AMMO) has decided the Sound of Music is the only film that may now be shown in public.
Who knew Kevin Costner was prescient?

GravatarDid Kerry do all that he could?

Let's see:

Kerry decided to go wind surfing instead of campaigning just weeks before the election.

Kerry had to actually learn to not talk like an animatronic robot in the 'Hall of Presidents'. Sorry. That's an insult to animatronic robots.

Kerry's positions were so nuanced that they had to be explained in essay form.

Kerry refused to take a stand on anything controversial, lest it back him into a corner that he could not nuance his way out of.

Kerry used the DLC strategy of portraying himself as right-of-center on most big issues (also known as the "I'm a better Republican than actual Republicans" strategy.

Worst of all - Kerry did NOT hit back when he was attacked byt the Swifties. He sat back and sniffed disdainfully while his poll numbers sank. OOPS! I guess he could have done more.

In conclusion, just let me say, "Fuck Kerry and the pussy-assed spineless Gephardt/Daschle/Lieberman Al From/DLC Neville Chamberlain appeaser loser wing of the Dem party horse he rode into the campaign on."

GravatarJenny, I should have said: There was not much more Kerry could have done. Other posters have mentioned Abu Ghraib which was ignored during the campaign. I just don't know if it would have done any good. The nation is stuck in a big black cloud of denial.

Ever since 9-11 we have been thrashing around, trying to prove how tough we are. We're stuck in a comic book narrative, with Bush as the codpiece clad action figure. The rest of the world sees right through it. It's pathetic really, an attempt to prove how tough we are. I haven't given up on this nation yet. It's a dangerous adolescent right now, but it may yet grow up and turn out alright.

You are right though, a real leader would have used reason instead of fear. We were lucky to have Lincoln and FDR when we had them. We'll just have to be better than our leadership if we want our country.

GravatarAll of you should be keeping an eye on the Kos diary section, that's where the real action is.

GravatarShhh... don't you know that the gays in the Republican party are deep under cover? They're waiting for the religious wing-nuts to finalise their government systems to control America's morals and then pull a big ol' gay jiu jitsu flip on the Pat Robertsons of the world.

Then those Freepers will be bashing the French for being so unstylish and poorly dressed.

After all they are so jealous now of Sully being able to massage his bum on national tv, so the anticipation is building within the Republican Party. Can't ya feel it?

GravatarAnother Bruce -

All in all, I was very happy with Kerry and don't want to criticize him too much. I did keep hoping he'd take the opportunity in the 2nd or 3rd debate, since the first one went so well, to lay into Bush on some of the horrors of the war, the human toll and the senselessness of it all. But he didn't.

Overally I really do admire him greatly for fighting so hard. His schedule was non-stop and he had the energy and the fight of 20 men. So he did good and I'm most definitely proud of the way he tried. It's just such a crazy time and who knows if anyone could have slapped some sense into the deaf, dumb, blind and fearful 51%...

I hope things turn around, somehow. I hope we get a natural leader on our side who is charismatic enough to attract those who need to be charmed by style. We feed on substance but it's alarming how many require so so little...

Goodnight, AB.

GravatarG'night Jenny.

GravatarI couldn't tell you how many undercover freepers and Little Green Raelians have been dying to go public with their secret ways to get those orangish-yellow stains from Cheetos out of their pajamas.

And exchange secrets on where they can find pajamas made from really high-thread count material.

1 out of 10 in every group... even Falwell's congregation. And evangelicals would never allow a gay Democrat to publicly rise beyond a representative from a heathen state. So to break through the glass ceiling and control the levers of power, it's been Leo Strauss' Noble Lie to the rescue. It's okay to lie about being gay, if it means one day you can gain enough power to implement the gay agenda and speak freely about comfortable pajamas.

GravatarWTF do you useless morons think you're accomplishing here? YOU LOST. AGAIN.

Think one day you'll catch a clue?

GravatarHeh heh... we didn't lose. Gays won. The Leninists won. Haven't you been reading the blogs? The freepers let them in the front door and didn't even realise it.

Thank God for the American educational system. Hong Kongers would have seen through this charade so quickly. Advantages of a British/Chinese education system, I guess.

That's why the people of Hong Kong would elect a Trotskyite in to their legislature, but only if he steadfastly wore his Che Guevara t-shirts. Long Live Long Hair!

GravatarWTF do you useless morons think you're accomplishing here? YOU LOST. AGAIN.

Anon @ 4:00am:

WTF do you think you're accomplishing here? If we're not accomplishing anything, then you aren't accomplishing anything by railing against us. And we thought we were ineffectual!!!

It's a sad day when the trolls begin to question why they're even lurking around in the first place.

GravatarAnd then there is Dubya's immigration package.

{We lost?}

And all the Dems are psyched that Bush whacked Kiss My Ashcroft.

{We lost?}

Replacing him with some guy with a Hispanic name. Democratic Senator from the People's Republic of Vermont seems to think this cat's moderately groovy. Bet the freepers let him through the front door with a free pass too, cuz they've heard about one leaked memo. Did any of them actually read it?

Does it matter? They blindly trust this Dubya fellah. After the way he honourably served his country during Vietnam, he wouldn't dare skip out on his voting bloc now. Right? I mean he wouldn't follow the advice of all those "reformed" 60s leninist-maoist / leftist radicals in his kitchen cabinet. Would he?

GravatarIf Bush can teach us anything, results don't actually matter anymore, it's all about packaging.

Therefore, the best thing to do would be for gay-rights groups to LOUDLY proclaim how much they like Mehlman because he could steer the discourse on gay-rights from the RNC. And if reporters ask why, well, isn't it obvious...?

More deadly than a pit of vipers.

i like this suggestion.

GravatarKerry already took the gloves off on Bush. It simply didn't work.

Ooooh Puuuullleeeeeeeeeeaaazzzzzzzzz, I repect that Kerry did the best that he could and made the decisions that needed to be made carefully. I do not think the smirking chimp was aggressively challenged -- but I also think Kerry was between a rock and a hard place. I think George Carlin says it best when he talks about the US being a "loud culture." His humor has to be fairly outrageous for people to even pay attention. Those that watch mainstream media (especially Fox) do not even get the basic facts to understand an dialog with chimpy that "takes the gloves off."

Oh, and people that make anonymous posts are all trolls (and all anon posts are by the same troll, well, except this one...)

GravatarTherefore, the best thing to do would be for gay-rights groups to LOUDLY proclaim how much they like Mehlman because he could steer the discourse on gay-rights from the RNC. And if reporters ask why, well, isn't it obvious...?

I think your on the right track, but I think they should do more than LOUDLY proclaim that Mehlman could provide needed direction. The you specifically talk about strong urges to perform sexual acts on him -- and to have the favors returned by Mehlman and a small animal of his choice. Maybe small boys could demand that he teach them how to "be a man."

GravatarPlease stop the unsubstantiated claims about election fraud. Bush campaigned fair and square.

GravatarThose that watch mainstream media (especially Fox) do not even get the basic facts to understand an dialog with chimpy

But the faithful, they get all the inside scoop and information on the revolution coming. Right? I mean Rove and company wouldn't bogart information from the freepers and Little Green Raelians, would he?

Especially not rumours that once Gonzales is in at Justice, he's gonna set up a web forum to point out how freepers in the Red States suck the the Federal and state budgets dry. Everybody's gonna be brainstormin' about things to do to keep those freepers from ruinin' America.

GravatarTom - Daai Tou Laam - I hope Mehlham gets the post and that he personally does your colon examination this year with his own tool. Perhaps this could be a public event broadcast to the religious right on closed-circuit TV. Maybe it would be a good thing for the anti-gay forces to see the three of you -- yes, with another young male, perform all the different types of homosexual acts so that we can foster a more meaningful dialog about what it means to be gay and the need for greater understanding and acceptance. Please do not practice "safe-sex" with the new chair of the RNC - it won't be necessary...

GravatarPlease do not practice "safe-sex" with the chair of the RNC - it won't be necessary...

I like the sounds like a solution to the "gay union" issue too -- I like your thinking!

GravatarYes, yes... The rise of the homosexual agenda in the Republican Party will lead to a "gay union". The openly DemonRat gays will celebrate because this new gay union will keep the "freeper confederacy" down on its knees in every battle and on the bottom at the end of every war.

But perhaps it'll be spartan-style wrestling maneuver that will flip the freepers head over heels instead of jiu-jitsu.

GravatarHeh, via my hero Juan Cole: check this out.

GravatarAfter seeing the post re. making the revolution personal, here are a few people I'll be adding to my take-down list. From Yahoo news front page of most popular. Having problems with IE this morning and can't seem to get my address bar to come up for a url.

Falwell Plans for 'Evangelical Revolution'

Tue Nov 9,10:43 PM ET U.S. National - AP

By HANK KURZ Jr., Associated Press Writer

RICHMOND, Va. - Seeking to take advantage of the momentum from an election where moral values proved important to voters, the Rev. Jerry Falwell announced Tuesday he has formed a new coalition to guide an "evangelical revolution."

Falwell, a religious broadcaster based in Lynchburg, Va., said the Faith and Values Coalition will be a "21st century resurrection of the Moral Majority," the organization he founded in 1979.

Falwell said he would serve as the coalition's national chairman for four years.

He added that the new group's mission would be to lobby for anti-abortion conservatives to fill openings on the Supreme Court and lower courts, a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, and the election of another "George Bush (news - web sites)-type" conservative in 2008.

"We all, for the first time, began to realize the potential of religious conservatives, particularly evangelicals, when something over 30 million of them went to the polls," he said, noting most supported the president and anti-abortion candidates, and voted to approve 11 initiatives across the country banning gay marriage.

Also, a decision by the Massachusetts Supreme Court allowing gay marriages "helped energize our people," Falwell said.

And when San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom began performing gay marriages, it "really caught the attention of people of faith in this country, and what we have been saying could happen actually happened," he said.

"The timing could not have been better. That, along with the abortion issues and the terrorism issue, helped us to get our people awakened."

While overseeing the coalition, Falwell said he would leave day-to-day operations of Liberty University and Thomas Road Baptist Church — both of which he founded — to his sons Jerry Jr., 42, and Jonathan, 38.

Mathew Staver, founder of the conservative law group Liberty Counsel in Orlando, Fla., will be the coalition's vice chairman; Jonathan Falwell will be its executive director. Theologian Tim LaHaye will be the board chairman.

GravatarYou remember the RNC convention kicker? Of course you do.

Apparently he spent election day disenfranchising people trying to vote: See General Christian: here

GravatarMordechai Vanunu has just been rearrested, for "secretly communicating" with foreigners. I don't know if there's a link, I saw it on the teev.

GravatarWatching the Arafat reporting on CNNi, which, I'm certain, is going to be less reprehensible than domestic cablenewsers: showing clips of Arafat talking to Daddy Bush, for instance. Robert Fisk has the best take, I think: he'll never forgive Arafat for setting up a fiefdom in his beloved Lebanon. But now all we need is for Sharon to shuffle off to his own last end, to allow for a deep breath and perhaps a new generation to take control.

But, back on topic: out them all. John Major had his own 'back to basics' moral renewal campaign backfire on him with revelations about his cabinet's sexual proclivities (if only we'd known about Major's own Thatcher-era affair!) and I do think it's time to hit hard, even with velvet gloves.

'You know, it's a tribute to the Republican party that they can simultaneously press for discrimination against gays and lesbians, and yet employ so many of them, whether closeted or not. Don't you think so, Ken Mehlman? David Dreier?'

Gravatar'You know, it's a tribute to the Republican party that they can simultaneously press for discrimination against gays and lesbians, and yet employ so many of them, whether closeted or not. Don't you think so, Ken Mehlman? David Dreier?'

Only gay democrats are true sodomites.

GravatarSuccesful, thin, single, and over thirty. Oh yeah he's gay.

GravatarRight on schedule.

Just came in from the car, the gov. of Tenn. is saying that he will end Medicaid for may of the poor unless cost cutting is accepted. And he's not the worst of them. There will be more poverty than at any time since the 1950s, it's all part of their plan to get their other foot on the neck of the poor too.

GravatarOh, come off it.
Mehlman's faaaabulous!
Mehlman-on-man tee hee.
The Mehlman Always Rings Twice ... after he's performed anal sex with men! Tee hee!
I wonder whether he was "behind" the Kerry/Edwards gay innuendo shit?

GravatarLast night, while listening to a recording of the Monday Franken show, I had a mild inspiration.

"Moral values" has bcome code for gay-bashing and virulent anti-abortion stances, but such things are only tangentially mentioned in "the Bible".

What is mentioned in "the Bible" are The Seven Deadly Sins. Now, I was raised a fundie, not a Catholic, and we didn't revere them so, but play the game with me. I'll list the sins, and YOU identify the members of BushCo they match. It's fun! And I'll bet we get the same answer 4 or 5 out of the 7.

Greed-
Gluttony-
Pride-
Envy-
Lust-
Anger-

I'm off for coffee. Enjoy! (I'll bet we ALL match on the last....)

GravatarSuccesful, thin, single, and over thirty. Oh yeah he's gay.

Gays know about other gays. If John Aravosis says he's gay, he's gay.

Ahhight?

GravatarEstablishment Republican gays.

There was a story I heard on Studs Turkel's Almanac years ago about a gay man who was an assassin for the French Resistance. On one occasion he killed a Nazi officer who had come to have sex with him after the Resistance told him that he had tortured several of their memebers to death. With his bare hands, he executed the Nazi.

Just filing away for future reference. Library clerk habits die hard.

GravatarWell, the worst thing about these types of situations is that it will be "all liberals fault" that he is gay and can't be in the closet. Can't win for trying...

GravatarMehlman DOES have a purty mouth.

Gravatar
is ken mehlman gay? what am i missing here?

no way

Agreed. Does anyone really believe Bush would associate with a moral degenerate?

GravatarMaybe he's a virgin then? Surely Bush would'nt want to associate with a fornicator anymore than he would want to associate with a homosexual.

GravatarSuccesful, thin, single, and over thirty. Oh yeah he's gay.

Besides, check out his mouth. Now tell me he's never sucked a dick....

GravatarThis sounds like the hard-core racist that will cheerfully lynch your neighbor. They won't lynch you because you behave like one of the "good niggers". Any gay person that falls for this deserve what they get.

GravatarBushco: yup, we're progressive. We got yer black immoral weasels, yer hispanic immoral weasels, yer women immoral weasels, yer queer immoral weasels.

we got immoral weasels of every stripe in key positions

Why isn't willful ignorance on the list? Or blatant stupidity? Harumph.

GravatarWe got yer black immoral weasels, yer hispanic immoral weasels, yer women immoral weasels, yer queer immoral weasels.

It's beyond my comprehension how any self-respecting woman, homosexual, minority, or any combination thereof could serve this administration. Talk about being a collaborator.

GravatarLooking at his purdy mouf gives me a puffy this mernin'....

Gravatar"In the face of longtime rumors, this 37 year old single man has, oddly, refused to answer questions about his sexual orientation. I can't recall many, if any, straight men who refuse to acknowledge that they're straight"

Lets face it some guys just don't do that well with the ladies, but if they're straight have no problem saying so.

You'd think someone (even a Republican) in Mehlman's position would have to beat women off with a stick.

GravatarPreparation H Mehlman? He's just here to help!

GravatarDems always fight by the "rules" and lose. I remember the Mary Cheney dustup. When asked about it, Kerrey never mentioned that Keyes called her a heathen, and repubs said nothing. Alos when campaigning in Miami, Kerry never mentioned the new travel rules to Cuba, which had Miami-Cubans upset.

GravatarLets face it some guys just don't do that well with the ladies, but if they're straight have no problem saying so.

I've had to tell individual gay guys that I was straight to get them to leave me alone, before.

GravatarThat poetry thread last night was awesome. I think that should become a tradition like Friday cat-blogging. I saved it to re-read later over and over.

GravatarYou'd think someone (even a Republican) in Mehlman's position would have to beat women off with a stick.

Not touching that.

GravatarIt's beyond my comprehension how any self-respecting woman, homosexual, minority, or any combination thereof could serve this administration. Talk about being a collaborator.

I don't get it either. Maybe the key phrase there is "self-respecting." In order to be a gay Republican you must hate yourself?

GravatarWasnt the "gay terrorist" actually a self hating Jew from Homofornia?

GravatarDammit, I missed poetry blogging! Just my luck--went to bed early with a bitch of a cold.
Thanks for the heads up, I'm going to check it out...

Gravatarregarding taking action:

IMO, there are two goals that should be paramount.

1. Fix the electoral process. It's been broken my entire life, and long before that. Nothing new. But it's utterly fucked now. Blackboxvoting.org is a start and that's where I have started by supporting them financially, but that's just one aspect of the problem. An internationally recognized (but with NO UN affiliation) seal-of-approval process that every county/parish clerk in the country is pressured into adopting should be the goal.

2. The media. They have always sucked. They enabled the Spanish-American War, they didn't fight McCarthy, they bought into the lies about Kennedy's assasination, they ignored our illegal actions in Central America in the 80s, they downplayed the S&L Crisis, they went into an orgy of delight with every Clinton "scandal," climaxing in the Starr Report, they have ignored every Bush scandal that they could. So returning them to some mythical golden age isn't a goal. What is needed is a moderate Fox. A left-wing Fox can come later. Right now a moderate-leaning Fox would seem utterly revolutionary, and would be reviled as such. Air America Radio is a great start - they're really trying to offer us an alternative.

Finally, if there's any reaching out at all to be done by the Democrats, it should be to the Libertarians and Greens. We share a lot of goals with both. We probably share most if not all of the goals of the Greens, just not their tactics. And there is much more common ground these days between Libertarians and Democrats - we are the party of fiscal sanity now and like them we believe in civil rights, decriminalization of drugs, wars of defense only, etc. And the Libs seem to be a lot angrier at Repubs these days - in Central Texas they helped a Democrat win over one of Delay's boys. We just have to convince them that we're not out to tax them to death - hard to do. But we're not the party of multi-trillion dollar debt so a simple review of the numbers will help.

Oh, and resume target practice, martial arts, and other self-defense. The Second Amendment is the one exempt from the Patriot Act.

GravatarTo blogwhore for someone else, this Veteran's Day go read Wolcott.

GravatarI don't get it either. Maybe the key phrase there is "self-respecting." In order to be a gay Republican you must hate yourself?
TJ

Many gays aren't fired-up self-respecting activists like me or others. It's all about money for some. It's not like he's traveling around on the reformed gay circuit as a "reformed gay" for the Jerry Falwell crowd. But he does have a sort of disconnect and should find a more honorable profession but he's where the money is.

GravatarGreat day for us. First, a Latino for AG and then a gay American to head the RNC. Where are the libs going to get votes in '08.

Great move, Karl.

Jeb in '08.

GravatarLive Free or Die has a point about fighting by the rules but there is another side to it. If Kerry and Edwards had gone into it any more, no matter how reasonable and respectful they were, the Republican media would have used it as a weapon against them in a close race.

We've got to get that alternative media going and it's going to have to be on TV. And it's going to have to be good. Radio and print are fine but TV's going to make or break us.

GravatarOT: A picture of some puppies in a basket.

Gravatar"You know, we do have to unite and work together with the Bush administration. Hey, after all, we lost.

"For an olive branch, how about Democrats run a full page ad in southern newspapers, thanking Bush for being "inclusive" and selecting a GAY MAN to head the RNC? Let's be magnanimous, and thank Bush for this gesture."

--Dream on. The Democrats simply don't have the BALLS and/or the common sense to do something like this.

--They're pathetic. And because they are, our country is fast headed down the toilet in the face of a hypocritical Bush fascism.

--When I was in Greece recently, I met a German guy who had lived in the United States for several years. He said, "You know, it's amazing watching what is now happening in your country. It's the same path my country followed during the 1930s."

--We ARE headed in the direction of Nazi Germany. The Nazis were thugs and corrupt and preached a certain kind of intolerance of people they didn't like. They persecuted queers, Jews, gypsies, Slavs, political prisoners, etc. Meanwhile, many of them were probably gay in their closet existences.

--Voila!! What do we now have in power?
To top it off, we also now have an AG appointee who approves of torture. Wait until HE starts trying to ram Patriot Act II through the Congress.

--I'm saying to anyone who is listening with respect to this country, "Get the hell out of Dodge before it's too late."

GravatarI see that the MSM finally picked up on the "voter fraud", but they are painting you libs are "conspiracy" theorists who will only scare away your base and suppress the vote - how ironic.

Let's have a 7-day waiting period on conspiracy theories. You guys are looking pathetic, and I demand a better fight against Jeb in '08. Wake up.

GravatarA fucking tank was used against protesters in Los Angeles. What country is this again?!

GravatarWe wackfundies are having a ball.
The DemoRATS are now in free fall.
The whole world will sing
When the Chimpster's crowned king.
Do not expect elections at all.

GravatarThat Tianenmen Squre in LA tank thing is a crock. If you download and watch the vid you'll see there were about 30 protesters, then a couple of tanks pulled up at a stop light. A couple of cops on pushbikes then rode up and told the protesters to get off the road out of the way, and then the tanks tootled off again.

GravatarGreat day for us. First, a Latino for AG and then a gay American to head the RNC. Where are the libs going to get votes in '08.

Really? You think blacks were so stupid they voted overwhelmingly for Bush just because of Rice and Powell? You think gays and Latinos are stupid, also?

Get reality based, will you?

GravatarThey're doing it again. That's all.

They are managing to splinter the Democratic by turning us against ourselves. They have demonized liberals, feminists, gays, gun control advocats. They are even saying "Democrat" with an undisguised sneer in their tone of voice. That is how they are going to marginalize 50% of the population. Guys like Melhman are useful tools for the moment, but will be thrown overboard when their usefulness is over. I don't believe in outing, but I do believe in calling them on their hypocracy.

Meanwhile, we know have an anti-choicer as minority leader. We gotta stop letting them set the agenda and the vocabulary.

I've noticed that nearly everyone on the left is searching for something concrete to do after the loss. I personally like the idea of targeted boycotts and letter writing. To this feminist partisan, CVS is as good a place as any to start.

GravatarI am so bummed that I missed the poetry thread last night! I found the thread and scrolled through it ~ very cool stuff! Poetry is a passion of mine. I'd love to share.

Hecate, thanks for the inspiration yesterday ~ great posts!

On one of the threads yesterday afternoon, ro (I think it was) said that when Bush brings peace to the middle east, his mug will go up on Mt. Rushmore.

That thought haunted me yesterday.

I don't think Bush has the diplomatic skills and intellectual capacity to bring peace to the middle east. But beyond that, you youngsters who post here ~ remember this, in case some of the older folks here aren't around to fight for it.

Bush must never, never be enshrined on Mt. Rushmore. He stole an election. He started a war under false pretenses. He has blood on his hands and oil in his heart. Please don't let historians conveniently forget the pain Bush has brought to this country.

GravatarIncognito, I really like your fighting spirit as of late. Keep it up!

Damn.

GravatarKos has more info on Dr. David Hager's ongoing crusade to deny contraception (emergency or otherwise) to American women. As he says, "All it takes is a handful of wingers to trump science and basic reproductive freedoms." Once again, STOCK UP ON YOUR PILLS!!!!!
I'm starting to agree with J. Elias--and the tank video is, um, not exactly reassuring.

GravatarIncognito, I really like your fighting spirit as of late. Keep it up!
Vicki Stein

I like your fighting spirit and that of others here. You all inspire me. Missed ya on the poetry thread last night. It was awesome. Some of it tore at me but that's the point. Anyway, I've decided to fight instead of leaving the country. I'll fight them until the day they throw dirt in my face.

GravatarThis gives new meaning to the phrase "RNC head".

GravatarI'm gonna be posting this for a while and hope all of you do the same wherever you blog, email, etc. The more people involved, the better.

My idea is simple.

A National Day of Protest.

Simply take a personal day on Inauguration day, January 20th, 2005.

No marching. No screaming. No assembling.

Just a simple but LOUD message (if we get huge momentum with it) to send this administration that we will fight them in any way we can. Imagine the impact if 10 million people decided to call out sick.

It would send quite a message. I have about 100 people I've contacted so far. try and do the same. It can work.

GravatarThe point of pointing out that Mehlman is gay is simple.

BushCo bent over backwards to attract the Fundie vote -- It behooves us, as Americans, to point out to Our Fellow Americans how shamelessly they were lied to -- and lied to on a position they consider fundamentally (ahem) critical to America's Future.

We're just trying to be helpful. After all, they did win a mandate, right? We're supposed to all come together, right? We should help our GOP friend and point out evil whenever it happens?

Right?

GravatarGreat Wolcott, thanks Attaturk

That Tianenmen Square in LA tank thing is a crock.
Sure, tanks roll through downtown LA all the time. Just happened to bump into an antiwar protest. Move along folks, nothing to see here.

GravatarBush must never, never be enshrined on Mt. Rushmore. He stole an election. He started a war under false pretenses. He has blood on his hands and oil in his heart. Please don't let historians conveniently forget the pain Bush has brought to this country.

Bush can go on Mt. Rushmore. His face can be carved on the wart on Abraham Lincoln's cheek.

GravatarHere's an example of Alinsky Rule #4:

Rule 4: Make your opponent live up to his own rule book.

How can the party of "family values" appoint a man it's leader when his lifestyle is contrary to the values they want the rest of us to live by!!!

GravatarPaul at 9:33 AM ~ exactly. I say let Mehlman be confirmed as RNC Chair, and then out him. Let the drama play out.

GravatarI missed the "let's out all GOP gays" memo, but approve of the idea of hit and run guerrilla attacks in light of the recent defeat of our conventional forces.

Might I suggest an outing of all hetero GOP types with interesting "habits" that also contravene the "moral values" mantra? Like, say, Bill Bennett?

After all, we shouldn't discriminate.

GravatarSeem to remember talk of putting Ronbo on Rushmore-- but the engineers said they'd risk the whole thing coming down if they tried. Be sort of fitting, really, if that happened while trying to install Bush up there.

Gravatar"Does anyone really believe Bush would associate with a moral degenerate?"

Well he associates with David Drier, Mary Cheney and Grover Norquist, doesn't he?

Great Frank Rich column today. Murdoch's pushing porn explains why O'Reilley's the perfect spokesmodel for them.

GravatarThere isn't any space up there so it's really only repuke cult talk. The only spot left has a big crack through it.

GravatarBesides, there isn't anyone who could do huge granite rock sculpture anymore. It's all just repuke cult talk.

GravatarKerry did NOT 'take the gloves off.'

Taking the gloves off would have included an advertizing campaign featuring the goriest, bloodiest, most repellant footage from 9/11 and pasting it over the twin faces of aWol and Osama in which their visages morphed back and forth from one into another, over a legend which read" "Who Was In Charge On 9/11? Think about it before you cast your ballot."

By the way, apparently I too am back...fwiw

GravatarI'm sure the junior senators from South Carolina and Oklahoma, Jim "no gay teachers" DeMint and Tom "rampant lesbianism" Coburn would be interested to know that Mehlman might be gay. Someone should tell them and then sit back and watch them fight.

GravatarBut someone could probably hang down from some scaffolding and chip out Bush's likeness on Lincoln's wart, though.

Just saying....

GravatarWho cares if he's gay?

Why would liberals be pouncing on a gay man?

Have you lost your way?

There is no election for snarkiness.
Your tail chasing straw man biting ways have also conjured up some "values" mandate for Bush. How could you possibly take an exit poll and self defeat yourself into the anti-values party. Frankly, given all the self loathing woosy like behavior I've seen this past week, thank the stars that Keery wasn't elected. You people don't truly beleive in yourselves!

What's a Democrat these days anyway?

I've seen that you now want to be anti-washington Budget hawks, and now your HOuse leader is prayuing daily. Maybe Bush was right, you have no core. Elite yes. Confused yes.

What are your 4 core platforms?
anybody know. I doubt it.

GravatarPeace and welcome back, Konopelli (AKA Woody Guthries Guitar).

GravatarThere are only four important issues: Peace, Justice, Equity, Tolerance.

That's it! Everything else is adjectives...

GravatarBy the way, apparently I too am back...fwiw
Konopelli

Glad to see you back. Let's roll. Roll where? Fuck if I know but I'm going to roll all over the bastards, that's where.

GravatarFrankly, given all the self loathing woosy like behavior I've seen this past week, thank the stars that Keery wasn't elected. You people don't truly beleive in yourselves!
rob

Duhr. Who cares what you say? You can't even spel.

GravatarWhat a laugh. Who cares? How about Mullah's Dobson, Robertson, and Falwell.

GravatarSpeaking of, um, RNC head...

http://www.stephenelliott.com/20...-mac-im- in.html

Gravatarwho sez cows don't vote?

GravatarOf course, that practice has been universally ended as being seen as a barbic, profoundly ignorant way to treat the recently departed.

IOKIYAJ.

GravatarTiming is everything. Let them promote the so-called moralists.

If they are going to take the "moral high ground,” let us take on the task of character assassination.

Moral values issues just don’t have that much punch when they are delivered by hypocrites.

There is thin line between moral and self righteous. You know what the red staters enjoy even more than throwing an empty beer can at the liberal on TV? They like watching a the grandiose, morally superior preacher

There is thin line between moral and self righteous. You know what the red staters enjoy even more than throwing an empty beer can at the liberal on tv? They like watching a the self aggredanized, morally superior preacher get caught with his pants down.

.

GravatarYou know it's a boring day when...

you respond to trolls.

Who cares if he's gay?

Apparently all the "fundamentalists" like Dobson, Falwell, and Robertson, and the people in 10 states who fear "As goes the Massachussetts Judiciary, so goes the country."

Why would liberals be pouncing on a gay man?

It's the hypocrisy, stupid.

Have you lost your way?

No. Nor my moral compass. Why? Need directions?

There is no election for snarkiness.
Your tail chasing straw man biting ways have also conjured up some "values" mandate for Bush. How could you possibly take an exit poll and self defeat yourself into the anti-values party. Frankly, given all the self loathing woosy like behavior I've seen this past week, thank the stars that Keery wasn't elected. You people don't truly beleive in yourselves!

Actually, I agree with you on the "self-defeating" and "anti-values" business. Partly, anyway. Give the Devil his due, and all. Yet the fact that some are acting like this, is no proof it is true for the entire party.
A patch of ice doth not a winter make, and all that.

What's a Democrat these days anyway?

Not a Republican?

I've seen that you now want to be anti-washington Budget hawks, and now your HOuse leader is prayuing daily. Maybe Bush was right, you have no core. Elite yes. Confused yes.

And yet the purity of Republicans is superior? Specter toes the line, or he's out, rules be damned? Frist seems to think, like DeLay, it's all about power, not about law. Maybe that's what Democrats are about: a government of laws, not of men (and women; but "of people" just doesn't carry the right rhetorical weight).

What are your 4 core platforms?
anybody know. I doubt it.

Are we limited to 4? What are they for the GOP? Morality? From the torture and lie and disavow responsibility for anything Administration? Fiscal responsibility, from the party that turned a surplus into the largest deficit in U.S. history in less than 4 years? Military authority, from the party that has us mired in a replay of Vietnam and proven once again the limits of U.S. military power (hint: you think Fallujah is a victory? Seems most of the insurgents left the city before the Marines "sealed it up" so they couldn't leave. Ooops.)

Tell me again, if you will, what the GOP stands for. And how it achieves those goals.

It would almost be entertaining.

Gravataroops, sorry for the echo

echo

GravatarIf Bush can teach us anything, results don't actually matter anymore, it's all about packaging.

Therefore, the best thing to do would be for gay-rights groups to LOUDLY proclaim how much they like Mehlman because he could steer the discourse on gay-rights from the RNC. And if reporters ask why, well, isn't it obvious...?

More deadly than a pit of vipers.

That is absolute genius.

And it has the added benefit of being usable against almost anyone, because it leaves the conclusion up to the listener.

GravatarWhat better choice than Mehlman. It will allow Bush to say that he doesn't really have anything against gays while he demonizes them. It's like appointing Clarance Thomas to the Supreme Court.

GravatarWho cares if he's gay?

Republicans.

Why would liberals be pouncing on a gay man?

You misunderstand.

We aren't pouncing on him because he's gay. We're pouncing on him because he's a flaming hypocrite. A Jewish Nazi, if you will. He lacks the common sense to see that he would be one of the first ones on the train, if George W. Bush's most fervent supporters (read: Moonies) had their way. We only seek to open his eyes to the truth.

GravatarIs Bush gay? First he tries to pick up an aide to the Canadian Prime Minister, now this.

GravatarI'm really ashamed of all you people. Clearly all these allegations about Mehlman being gay are slanderous, unfounded rumors started by sore loser Democrats who are infuriated by the climate of moral rectitude and patriotism that President Bush has brought to our country.

Just like the ones about President Bush using cocaine and avoiding service in the National Guard.

And the ones about Jenna and Barbara consuming alcoholic beverages.

And the one about Tucker Carlson's security blanket.

GravatarOut the bastard.

That's what I said here:

http://socraticgadfly.blogspot.c...t-gop- gays.html

GravatarWhat's the GOP stand for?

Who cares? The key is get a DEMO platform and just ride it.

I'll take a stab though.

Family Values, A strong Defense, A
strong Economy, and less government.

Except that they f-ed up the last one badly.

I voted for Kerry. Why? Because he seemed more conservative than Radical
Bush.

He lost it because of his vote for, vote against the war funding thing.

Bush nailed him on that. And the Bin laden tape did not help.

I am now a democrat, a new one, and it pains me to see all this second guessing. 60,000 votes in Ohio would have turned it. Bush has no mandate. It has nothing to do with Values.

Unless of course you keep barking and
biting away at the straw men.

Teh heel with me though. Go to Wikipedia and look up straw man. The rhetorical def. And spend the next three years figuring out how not to play the other guys game.

I hate Bush, but my only global dream is for peacae between Israel and Palestine. And Bush is close. And I predict that he's going to pull it off. And there going to put his sorry reborn alkie ass up on Mt. Friggin Rushmore. And we should cheer that. Nothing worse than a sourpuss at a victory parade. Figure out how to befreind the farmer. They'll vote for ya! 60,000 votes in Ohio. that's all you need. Fuck the self examination. Your fine. Teh war made all the difference. the fact that the lib out of Taxachussets was a precinct away from victory during a war is amazing. You done good. And your the elite. Enjoy it, it's a good thing. Don't go the dumbass other dopes level though. Chin up. Believe in your beleifs. And when somebody gets in your face, fuck'em, ou don't care, take the high road.

GravatarIncognito -

You're back! It's that all you've got. For Jeb in '08, we will have the gays, the Latinos, and Karl the Architect will figure out a way to get the African Americans.

Konopelli -

Kerry didn't need to take the gloves off - he had Michael Moore do his bidding, and it backfired. But I think we will find out in the next few weeks that Karl Rove and Michael Moore were conspiring to defeat Kerry. Let's run with that one. But remember the 7-day waiting period.

JEB IN '08.

GravatarGay? I'll give ya gay-

Lynne Cheney- if she's not gay, then my nephew is a monkey

GravatarSteven Spielberg's Oscar-winning movie aired on ABC with relatively little controversy in 2001 and 2002, but station owners -- including several in large markets -- are unnerved that airing it Thursday could bring federal punishment. The film includes a violent depiction of the D-Day invasion and profanity.

This is a slap in the face to the D-Day veterans who acted as consultants to the film and said those scenes were a very accurate portrayal of what took place on Omaha Beach.

Why do fundies hate our brave veterans?

GravatarI am in violent agreement with Seraphiel. This is a WAR, their hypocrisy needs to be exposed at every turn, whereever we find it (and there is plenty to be found), and attacked in the most forceful way possible. I spent some time volunteering with the DNC to help Kerry win Florida, and I would do it again, but not if the party adopts a "we need to play nice" attitude. Love thy neighbor IS the ultimate moral law, BUT if the SOB has a bazooka aimed at my house I will be damned if I sit around thinking "gee I sure hope he doesn't use that sucker". NO I am going to attempt to kill him before he kills me (and my family). So in this culture war, ridicule and exposing hypocrisy are potent weapons. We should use 24/7.

Gravatarhttp://www.nytimes.com/2004/11/1...6& ex=1101171794

Frank Rich NYT op-ed on "values" and "morals," and basically Rupert Murdoch's Fox not being moral whatsoever.

GravatarTeh heel with me though. Go to Wikipedia and look up straw man. The rhetorical def. And spend the next three years figuring out how not to play the other guys game.

You want the Wikipedia definition? Or the working definition? Because you are clearly practiced at the art of the "straw man."

Which is not to say that anyone is "biting." (Hitting, by the way, is the more appropriate metaphor. The "straw man" is one easily knocked over.)

I hate Bush, but my only global dream is for peacae between Israel and Palestine. And Bush is close.

As close as he is in Iraq? Do you know anything about what's going on, on the ground, in Gaza and the West Bank, right now? Not enough, clearly.

And I predict that he's going to pull it off. And there going to put his sorry reborn alkie ass up on Mt. Friggin Rushmore.

Well, that prediction will keep you out of even the "Nostradamus" circle of prophetic utterances.

And we should cheer that. Nothing worse than a sourpuss at a victory parade.

I would cheer peace between Palestinians and Israel. But as Bush has clearly shown, and Sharon keeps proving, peace never comes from the end of a gun.

Figure out how to befreind the farmer. They'll vote for ya! 60,000 votes in Ohio. that's all you need. Fuck the self examination. Your fine.

Which is it, now? Self-examination, so we can befriend the farmer? Or no self-examination, because we're "elites"?

Wait a minute. "Elites." That's a GOP meme, isn't it? But wasn't it W. who said "Some call you "elites." I call you my base." Who was he talking about? Democrats?

Now I'm confused.

Teh war made all the difference. the fact that the lib out of Taxachussets was a precinct away from victory during a war is amazing. You done good. And your the elite. Enjoy it, it's a good thing. Don't go the dumbass other dopes level though. Chin up. Believe in your beleifs.

Wait a minute. I thought the problem was, Dems don't have any beliefs?

Now I'm confused.

And not arguing with you. Or am I? After all:

And when somebody gets in your face, fuck'em, ou don't care, take the high road.

Now I'm confused again. More light, less heat; that would help.

GravatarCoshese,

Take a deep breath and say, "all my anger and 500 million dollars added up to lost house and senate seats and the worst president ever getting re-elected. I did not mean to energize the opposition, but 18% more of them voted this time. Compared to my teams 11.5%. All my posts and the bloggers, to the tune of a trillion key strokes, simply pissed the other guy off. So that he got off his old dusty couch, turned off fox, and went to vote against me. Damn. I guess Lincoln was right,
"do I not destroy my enemies when I make freinds of them?"

You'll get there, once your naiveity
matures.

GravatarPhew, Anonymouth, you poth thmellth like themen!

GravatarI know exactly what's going on in gaza and the West Bank. It's called a funeral. the man who ordered the Munich Olympic killings is being placed in his own little hell hole. And I know that we like Mahmoud Abbas. And that Bush has said he'd help out with elections.
And that he cares about his legacy.

A Palestinian state will be declared in 2005. Just like the road map says.

Get used to it. the thorn in the worlds paw is about to be removed. And you will cheer Bush, as will I.
Reagan was senile, and yet he's a hero. Bush is an idiot, and yet, he's gonna go down as the new Churchill.

And you and your family will benefit forever.

Which is a good thing.

Peace

GravatarAll my posts and the bloggers, to the tune of a trillion key strokes, simply pissed the other guy off. So that he got off his old dusty couch, turned off fox, and went to vote against me.

I had no idea so many people in the red states read Eschaton on a daily basis.

And then spent time reading all the comments.

Damn. We are more powerful than Limbaugh, huh?

GravatarIraq-

here's what's up-

Gravatarrob, your not 41's brother by chance, are you?

Gravatarplease pardon my improper grammar. sorry.

GravatarIf this board is indicative of the intellectual and organizational strength of the Democrats, we are in deep shit.

We need more than naivity and anger.

GravatarI know exactly what's going on in gaza and the West Bank. It's called a funeral. the man who ordered the Munich Olympic killings is being placed in his own little hell hole.

Do I understand this correlation correctly? The whole reason for the Palestinian/Israeli situation is Munich 1972?

Yeah, your grasp of the facts about Israel/Palestinian relations is beyond parallel.

And I know that we like Mahmoud Abbas. And that Bush has said he'd help out with elections.

Like he helped Allawi in Iraq? And why do I think the Palestinian people aren't going to appreciate Bush helping Abbas? Hmmm...could it have anything to do with Israel's brutal repression policies? The "wall" Israel is building? The refugee camps? The settlements?

Nah. Bush supporting Abbas will wipe all those problems away, and Palestinians will rejoice over Bush the Savior of the entire Middle East.

Just as Iraqis are doing now. The ones embracing us as liberators.

A Palestinian state will be declared in 2005. Just like the road map says.

Right. And that will be where? The Gaza Strip? And will be when? When Sharon gets to hand-pick the Palestinian leader? Yeah, he'll have the support of the people. Approved by Bush and Sharon, why, he'd be a shoo-in!

Get used to it. the thorn in the worlds paw is about to be removed. And you will cheer Bush, as will I.
Reagan was senile, and yet he's a hero.

To whom? Hitchens? Kristol? To me, he's just dead.

Bush is an idiot, and yet, he's gonna go down as the new Churchill.

Don't have much regard for Churchill, do ya? Nor any appreciation for what he accomplished, I dare say.

GravatarBush's brother?

Bush is an idiot.

I'm just laying out the truth.

Prepare for it.

The reason you all are so angry is because you blew it. The worst president in American History, and all your efforts failed to unseat him. How embarrassed are you?

GravatarIf this board is indicative of the intellectual and organizational strength of the Democrats, we are in deep shit.

We need more than naivity and anger.

Wow. Coming from you, that's a powerful condemnation indeed.

Churchill, by the way, is remembered most today for his stirring speeches about England's "finest hour" (ranks with Shakespeare's St. Crispin's day speech in stirring appeal for many), and his coining the term "Iron Curtain."

Bush? Well, he's coined "misunderestimate," which may yet make it to the dictionary. And his most memorable public utterance seems to have been: "Fool me once...shame on...shame on you..fool me twice...won't get fooled again!"

The new Churchill? Yeah, right.

GravatarIraq-

here's what's up-

see afghanistan- end of note

Afghanistan...lets' see.

Warlords run everything outside Kabul. Ruler in Kabul has no authority not provided by U.S. military. Poppy production up. Taliban back in the countryside. Osama Bin Laden still at large, looking tanned, fit, and healthy at last public viewing.

End of note.

GravatarBobby J,

Your knowledge is less than skin deep. Do you know why the Isrealites had to spend 39 years in the desert?

Or why Rafah was spared in Jericho?

Do me a favor, copy and paste your responses to me to a file. And then open that file in 1 year. And get a good chuckle at your naivety.

As for your pessimism, take another Prozac. And keep helping out the Republican cause with your ignorance.

GravatarRob,

The point is to "piss them off".

Should we be quaking in our boots because the enemy doesn't like us? Neville Chamberlain went out of his way to "not piss off Hitler", where did that get him?

GravatarAfghanistan is enjoying an incredible rennaisance. Woman voted! The Taliban has no support. Tribalism is fine.

That's how they like to do it. Warlords? To quote some cop in Live and Let die, "On whose side?"

On our side palerino!

Poppy production. good for them!
somebody's got to grow it!

Osama- he's been de-balled.

And once the Pal/Israeli issue is put to bed, he'll quit. He already offered peace.

And as for Allawi, what more do you want Bush to do for him.

It's a dumb war, but were in it, and should win it. 600 terrorists killed this week so far. At the point of a gun. Just like the one Hitler got put in his face.

And where's your freind Mullah Omar,

I think I saw him seeling fruit on the corner the other day.

The USA is going to kick some ass my son. Why don't you jsut step aside, stop your whining, and enjoy the show.

But no, you can't can you?

You must do something with your anger.

So, maybe you shouldn't go the victory parade. You can watch old movies of FDR or someting. Or maybe Jimmy Carter's concession speech.

Gravatarcome on ,there are a bunch of them in the closet. bush is obviously gay, so is rove, rememeber ari fleischer, and that guy gonzales for ag is too. by the way, why are the dems going to roll over and approve him???? i guess more pandering to the hispanic community for politics?? no matter that he is also up to his eyeballs guantanamo's illegal detentions, and for the humiliating abu ghraib incident by his infamous memo to blur the geneva convention's rules on torture. i guess i am what you call the dems liberal base. i barely voted for kerry this time. i will probably not vote dem next time, this was there last chance for me. they know they can't fool their base like the right can , so they ignore them . bad idea. it is not values dems lack, it is standing up for principles despite a political loss. that is what the rep base respected in bush.

GravatarBobby J,

Your knowledge is less than skin deep. Do you know why the Isrealites had to spend 39 years in the desert?

Oh, Lord, you aren't honestly trying to go Biblical on me, are you?

Or why Rafah was spared in Jericho?

Really? Old Testament stuff, is that where you're coming from?

I'll put my seminary degree up against your knowledge anyday. 39 years in the desert? Really? Historical fact, huh? Fine. Identify the Red Sea for me, on a map. You know, the one Moses parted, the one so deep it drowned Pharoah's army.

Hint: it's all desert around Egypt. There is no "Red Sea." Biblical archaeologists came to that conclusion about 100+ years ago. Almost 200, now.

39 years in the desert, huh? By the book, on a proper, 365 day a year calendar? You got the number of days, too? You quite convinced the "year" has always been measured in the same number of days, by all cultures?

And while you're at it, find the record of the Hebrews departure from Egypt. Surely such an Exodus would leave a record, right? Especially if Pharosh's army was wiped out? Find the Egyptian record for me, will ya? Maybe check Google, or Wikipedia.

Please, son. You're just displaying your ignorance here, and calling it knowledge. You impress yourself, but that's a party of one.

GravatarRob,

The point is to "piss them off".

Should we be quaking in our boots because the enemy doesn't like us? Neville Chamberlain went out of his way to "not piss off Hitler", where did that get him?

Anonymo,

Hello, hello, hello. Don't you get it. Pissing them off is a loser's game. That's what got 18% more of them off there couches. They wanted to give the bird to the liberal coast livers. To send the elite a big friggin turd for thanksgiving.

I'll say it once more, "do I not destroy my enemies when I make freinds of them. Take a week of from ventranting and consider that.

And making a reference that somehow equates the Repubs with the enemy is terribly self defeating. And then to think of it in a similar vain as Hitler. that's a big problem. The red staters are your fellow countrymen. They have the a same emotions as you. Bush scared them into voting for him, ala 1984. But they are not your enemy.

When you figure that out, then you'll earn your citizen stripes.

Rob

Gravatarlet's keep quiet about this until after he is named as chairman of the RNC.

GravatarBooby J,

so, you don't know why the Isrealites had to walk the desert?

And your a seminary student.

What made you study that?

Are you into myths?

My point is that the Isreali conflict has been going on since Joshua's Six Year war against the Caananites.

But I'm arguing with a two year old.

You need a pacifier, not a logical presentation.

.

GravatarAnd there is much more common ground these days between Libertarians and Democrats - we are the party of fiscal sanity now and like them we believe in civil rights, decriminalization of drugs, wars of defense only, etc.

swifferBoat - 8:58 am

I am honestly confused by this statement. I wish it were true. It might be true of a Dennis Kucinich, or even a Jerry Springer Democrat. But my confusion stems from the fact that our political process dictates that from the very moment the candidates hatch at the beginning of an election cycle, the pundits and wonks suppress, or seek to suppress, support for any candidate who openly, firmly, and unequivocally expresses such beliefs.

Before we became mesmerized by the superficially compelling but problematic "Red State/Blue State" dichotomy, it was enough to note that such ideals were not "mainstream" enough to attract sufficient public support. The ideals are simple enough-- moral, profound, a beautiful alternative to the violence-based realpolitik nihilism that is now the Dominant Paradigm. But they only appeal to thoughtful, analytical/critical minds. Ergo, the candidate, the personification of the national party, either does not actually hold these beliefs, or dares not express them. I gained a modicum of respect and sympathy for John Kerry after I dutifully accepted the need to vote for him, but there's no way in hell that he was a proponent of decriminalizing drugs or fighting "wars of defense only."

At best, progressive elements of the Democratic Party can tout a virtual or theoretical "common ground" on the issues you mention, to wit: If we listen to the macho whip-crackers barking at us to shut up! and quit whining and simply work work work every dayto improve the political process if we don't like it, we might succeed in again electing a mainstream Democratic candidate. Such a candidate will not, as noted, espouse the straightforward principles you enumerate. As was so often noted here all year, it's inevitably a question of putting forth someone electable, then being diligent and vigilant enough to inch that mainstream administration to the left. After sufficient iterations, the current clockwise cycle of ignorance, intolerance, and brutality will be reversed.

And if we're lucky, which we haven't been this time around, maybe the grandchildren of Libertarians and Democrats will live in a world where justice and truth and brotherhood and plenty of cheap, high-quality, decriminalized drugs will be achieved and available thanks to wise and capable politicians. All this to say good luck, but you've really got your work cut out for you persuading skeptics that the common ground of which you speak is not merely air...

GravatarBooby J,

That cracks me up. A seminary degree.

What'd ya study, boy fondling?

The pathos of idiocy?

there is no god my freind, what made you spend four years of life studying myth, when you live in reality?

Religion is just a symptom of being an infant race.

Was it like a child care thing going to divinity school. Put your degree up anytime. I'd l;ove a good chuckle.

Did your parent's pay for a seminary degree. You owe them an apology.

GravatarRob,

When the other side has declared war, and (we) just sit around fat, dumb, and happy then THAT is a real problem (for us); BUT it is exactly what the other side (you) would like to see happen. I am sorry to disappoint you.

The reference to WWII was an analogy I thought you might understand. Why you would make the additional inference is beyond me...

GravatarYou'all have quite a bit to learn. This is like a circle jerk of half educated bitternauts.

At any rate, mark my words in the back of your angry little heads. And when Bush goes to Palestine, to help celebrate their statehood, pull them out, and say, "Damn, I'm an idiot too!

GravatarIt's not war anonymo, it's called an election. We have them every year here.
And we debate the issues each year as well. It's called a dialectic. But war? Turn on the telly lad, that's war. Kids giving their lives so you can masturbate your brain.

Have you ever heard the term realpolitik?

If you thinks an election is war, then you have already lost.

Gravatarrob

just making a joke. if you were 41's brother, then your nephew would be 43, who, many think, is a monkey.

In his dreams.

GravatarHas anyone ever seen the cover of a book called "House of Bush, House of Saud"?

Monkey Boy is HOLDING HANDS with this Saudi prince.

I had seen the photo on websites and thought it was photo-shopped.

When I saw that book cover, I said "WTF!"

I think Bush has his OWN issues. The loudest homophobes are males insecure about their own sexuality.

Case in point: Limbaugh and Handjob Hannity!

GravatarDon't dream of Libertarians. They're Republican couch potatoes.

Gravatar"Bush is an idiot, and yet, he's gonna go down as the new Churchill."

HAHAHAHAHA!

No way in hell!

GravatarThe reason you all are so angry is because you blew it. The worst president in American History, and all your efforts failed to unseat him. How embarrassed are you?

Not half as embarassed as you should be as an apologist for the man you yourself deem "the worst president in American History".

(Why do the trolls make this so easy?)

GravatarAt any rate, mark my words in the back of your angry little heads. And when Bush goes to Palestine, to help celebrate their statehood, pull them out, and say, "Damn, I'm an idiot too!
rob

So, what do people do for fun in your star system?

Gravatar"Do you really think it would have made a difference for Kerry to point out what a failure Bush has been a few hundred more times?"

--Yes. It certainly made a difference for the GOP--even at their convention--to consistently point out to the public Kerry's failings, both real and imagined.

--Wake the fuck up!!

GravatarThere isn't going to be a fight in the GOP until they lose. Don't kid yourselves. There is only one issue that matters to those guys: power.

GravatarRule 4: Make your opponent live up to his own rule book.

They _do_ hire gays (see Mary Cheney--you sure won't hear her!), but maybe the rules are changing after the election. But their rule is to bash, and they should be held to it here, or else pay on both sides for their hypocrisy!
