Gravatar That's "Carlos" Santana. There was some Santayana character, who may have been named "George," put I don't read them philosophicatin' books.

Gravatar Right...I KNEW there was somthing wrong there, but I was feeling muzzy this morning. Thanks for the correction! Is my face red!

Gravatar All smart Jewish boys who are interested like the Beatles. But personally, I don't have much to do with them...

Gravatar Cecile, check out this piece in today's Guardian, entitled "Penny lame: Why I hate the Beatles": http://www.guardian.co.uk/arts/ f...1087283,00.html

Gravatar Interesting column Miller wrote on the Weekly Standard's online site. He ends with musings about "equal time" and how Germany-Japanese would have been treated circa 1941.

One of the most chilling things I recall reading were front pages from the Times in 1941 (pre Pearl Harbor). Indeed, it was common to see columns about the UK and Germany's positions opposite each other as if each deserved equal coverage. Do it. It will send shivers.

Gravatar I also followed the link and read the Miller column. My reaction is a bit different, however: I found it repugnant. Especially the intellectually dishonest nonsense about there being no such thing as a "Palestinian" (not to mention the puerile remarks about the host's appearance). It must be "much forwarded" because Jews and others who are incapable of being at all impartial about the Middle East keep sending it to each other.

I'm sure the choice of guests for the program, which I did not see, was not meant to endorse terrorism, or lend credibility to those who pursue violence. But I suppose it makes it much easier to dismiss political arguments by assuming those advancing them are terrorists.

Thanks for the history lesson, but most of us (the people Jay Leno scouts out being likely exceptions) already know there was never a modern nation called Palestine. But apparently, unlike Miller and his ilk, we are also honest enough to acknowledge that many long-time residents of Arab ancestry -- "Palestinians" -- were displaced by the violence surrounding the founding of Israel. An event which, since we're being so historically correct, cannot be said to have, by any stretch, not 'unfairly prejudiced the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine'.

Take a look at the pre-WWII borders of Germany, and compare them to today's. Now consider the West Bank, which used to belong to Jordan. Israel would, in this sense, be justified in annexing the West Bank. But the questions are: Should they? Would this be in the best interest of Israel? To preserve 'the Jewish state', and at the same time remain a Democracy, Israel would have to expel the Palestinians living there. And the world would (rightly, in my opinion) not tolerate this. And I don't think this is what Jordan had in my mind for this land when they relinquished all claims to it in 1988.

I think it is clear what must be done, in the end, despite the Arab world's cynical exploitation of Palestinian 'refugees'.

I also think Israel has the right to deal with (i.e. kill) terrorists, especially the scum who organize attacks on civilians. And I also think Israel should expel Arafat, even if it means killing him and many of his adherents.

And then get on, sincerely, i.e. without building more or expanding existing settlements, with making a peace agreement that includes creation of a state for the Palestinians. This will satisfy the vast majority of them, and enable these to better deal with the rest.

Gravatar Ik ga totaal akkoord. Ware Thats, mijn oom altijd vertelde me dat.
