I wouldn't want anyone from Taxachutsetts running the country. I'd much rather pick someone from their near Northern neighbot, New Hampshire, the Live Free or Die state!

I'd agree--but what if the guy you pick is like Kerry?

Hold on just one second, "fanatic." Not EVERYONE from Mass. is a lefty. I may despise my native state's political establishment, but it doesn't make me any less proud to be from there...even though, admittedly, I'm rather happy to live in income-tax-free Florida.
Dick Morris said it best, in that John Kerry's deepest political liabilities can be summarized in one sentence: "he was Mike Dukakis's lieutenant governor."

At least he served. Bush was AWOL from the National Guard at around the same time, and spent a good part of the 70's drinking and snorting his cocaine. I know, I know -- who cares, right? That's in the past, and he's a changed man. Fair enough -- if you don't think this bears much relevance to Bush's ability to lead the country, then a little war protesting shouldn't be a problem, either.

So you would rather have a president who threw his medals of honour away than a president who did drugs--perhaps only once?
I respect all opinions here.

DaveJ, for the record, I have nothing against people from Massachutsetts (the ones who love freedom). The problem is there aren't enough of them.
Cecile, they're ALL like Kerry. They want access to your pocketbook and they have guns to back it up. They are all slightly different but only because they have different agendas for your money.

I dont want to start anything with anyone. But i do want to support our President BUsh and say that I think he has done a wonderful job. I think he is very whole hearted and trustworthy in my opinion. Bush is a very down to earth man! And I admire him for all that he has had put on his shoulders and the way he has dealt since he became president. I will vote for him again!

I'm not a US citizen so my opinion doesn't matter but I have to ask "why is what Kerry did after vietnam relevant?"
The Vietnam war was a very controversial war. Kerry volunteered for service & seems to have served with honour & to have put himself in harms way.
When he returned he turned against the war & campaigned strongly against it. This was not uncommon & to bring it up now seems hypocritical when comparing Bush's behaviour in looking for a cushy posting in the national guard & then asking to be transferred so he could work on a political campaign.
Virtually no one of age to have fought in Vietnam who would stand for high office would have an umblemished record in this matter. Maybe people should move on & realise that at such a divided time people behaved in ways that seem strange to those of us who were not alive at that time.

Yes it was a very controversial war--but it is better to serve and respect your valour then to discard your medals as if they were nothing.

Indeed I do, Cecile. Civil protest and standing up for what one believes in are signs of strength. Drug use is a sign of weakness. There is no way that you or I or anybody else of this generation can truly know what it was like to fight in Vietnam and to have lived through one of the most catalytic times in our country's history. Whatever reasons the Vietnam war protestors had, they did not do so lightly -- remember, this was a time when Buddhist monks were setting themselves on fire to protest the war. They thought that they were doing the right thing.
But, there is no equivalent justifiable nobility in abusing cocaine and alcohol.
My overriding point is that these are in the past for both men. I no more think a history of drug use has anything to do with Bush's ability to serve as president than Kerry's protesting the Vietnam war has an effect on his. We are speaking of the past.

Drugs is a problem too, I understand that too. But I still don't know how that part relates to national security. Kerry did his deed in the past although, as records show, he has voted against intelligence funding in the last decade--meaning he has had more concern for domestic issues than foreign policy. Only now, is he changing his mind a bit.
And if you look at Natasha's House of Clue, I believe, she has a contrast between two of his statements. (Or am I thinking of another blogger?)

You're right, women's studies are banal. Since your teacher couldn't intellectually argue with you, she chose the lower road of mocking you, hence successfully abusing her authority. Too bad the students have influenced the faculty instead of vice versa.
Schools should be a marketplace of ideas, encouraging people to think as individuals. If your teacher prefers teaching propaganda she should get a job in China.
Comment to eh: It's Clinton that you're thinking of (that's the draft-dodger), not Bush. Try and keep up.

I just wanted to offer my support on standing up for your beliefs in class. I know it's hard, when your friends aren't on board. But if you get out of the truth habit now, it will be hard to regain it later. Hang in there, and be proud of yourself.

Cecile, you're 14 years old, and I know it's hard, but try to ascertain your values for yourself. While perhaps your teacher may not be instilling much of a variety of a worldview in your head, it's clear that your parents are indoctrinating you. Think for yourself, and don't always follow the party platform. You'll understand as you age.
