The GOP is pulling workers from Derby's district to the south to try to hold onto Porter (slimebag) in district 3. With the shit happening in Nevada, it's possible that the Repubs stay home on election day and the Dems sweep the 3 congressional seats (NV1 is safely Dem). A really big sweep could bring in Jack Carter, too and then NV would have an all-Dem congressional delegation. Sweet!

Thank you so much for supporting Jill Derby.
I live in her district and it is ESSENTIAL that she defeat Dean Heller.
If you want a good idea of who her opponent is - think of Dauber, Craig T Nelson's dim-witted sidekick on 'Coach'.
I just contributed a bit more to her, and I hope everyone who is able to does the same.

By the way, I've lived in Las Vegas over 10 years and I've never seen the local media go crazy like they did today. The woman who accused silver-haired Congressman & Republican Governor candidate Jim Gibbons of sexual assault, attempted rape (and bribery & threats of violence to shut up after the fact) held a televised news conference, and herself & her story absolutely had enough credibility that you could almost feel the ten-point lead of Gibbons disappear faster than a roll of quarters in a truckstop casino. I can't begin to describe all the hilarious sidebars, high-paid Republican attorneys and TV pundits making desperate & dishonest attempts to smear the woman (with Sig Rogich, Nevada's Mayberry Machhiavelli and Bush family factotum himself, pulling the ropes) but for the umpteenth time this campaign season it's almost orgasmic to watch yet another miserable venal Bush crony (who calls Democrats "hippies") flushing himself down the toilet ..

Awesome that you're fundraising for Jill Derby. This is the first time that a Democrat really has a chance in this district. The NRCC did a poll in this district in August and never published it, instead they had W come to town to fundraise for Dean Heller. In short: they're scared.
If you're interested in this campaign, you can find more on my blog Turn Tahoe Blue. There you'll also find an extensive link list to other Nevada blogs, newspapers etc.
Contribute to Jill!

One cautionary note: parts (not big ones) of NV-2 are in the Las Vegas media market. However, those HH's will probably get mailed or radio spots, TV buys wouldn't make a huge amount of sense.

First, I just atched CNN. CNN reported about the election efforts of a Republican candidate called MArk Kennedy. The next term would be his 3rd or 4th in congress and he approved 90% of Bushs bills. Hes a candidate in Minnesota. Hes trailing by sixteen points versus the Democratic female candidate.
In accordance to his current position in the polls he put up a spot that sets himself in relation to the Iraq war as "mea culpa." The statement might be: There are possibly nicer things so I dont mind if u judge me on election day by other topics." The clip ends with "I approve Iraq because it has to be approved but dont tell" or sth.
THE ENTIRE APPROACH IS NOT VERY UPRIGHT.
Now I just read an article on msn. The article is headlined on the home page with "Bush admits american people dont like Iraq" or sth. Well, perhaps he should make clear this form of dissatisfaction wouldnt exist without him. Upright.

The woman did stand by her accusations against Gibbons and even offered to take a polygraph test.
She also revealed that she had been both threatened and offered money to keep quiet about the situation.
This, coupled with Nanny-gate, and the local news up here in Reno had about 7 solid minutes of Gibbons scandal leading off the news.
It will be interesting to see if the Reno Gazette Journal will cover the woman's press conference or Nannygate. They positively loathed to print an unfavorable word about the man, and their coverage of the assault case has been minimal at best.

Following the case from Indiana; watched her news conference from the http://lasvegasnow.com/
Mazzeo has a great lawyer and will win over public opinion by virtue of her honesty.
With allegations of bribes and death threats it has now broken into Yahoo politics news. Dina Titus has an Ann Richards spunk to her and she will be a great governor!

Gave $40 each to Jill Derby and Tessa Hafen (NV-3) last night.
One of the things people forget about is that Kerry came within 40,000 votes (in NM, NV, and IA) of a 269-269 EC tie in 2004. An EC tie in 2008 isn't all that farfetched.
In that case, the House would decide the next President - with each state delegation having one vote.
That's why winning House races in small states like Nevada, Wyoming, Idaho, and New Hampshire is particularly important. If Derby and Hafen both win, the Nevada delegation would vote Democrat in an election thrown into the House. Ditto for Wyoming if Trauner wins there. If Grant and Hodes win in Idaho and New Hampshire, then those delegations are tied, and don't vote GOP. You get the idea.

My wallet's hurting these days, but I gave a bit.
Any little bit more of a word out about what else lies "out there" can't hurt.
I wish her and all in Nevada the best.

I rarely watch network tv, and only found out this am that Jeff Suppan (pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals) is expressing his disapproval of MJF ads for stem cell research in Missouri. Will it be difficult to not wish him well when he pitches but still want the team to win? hmm
Being disappointed in humanity seems to be a diurnal occurance these days.

Why is it okay for Patricia Heaton and famous athletes to do commercials that benefit the republican party, but it's not okay for Michael J. Fox, who suffers from Parkinson's disease, to do the same but for the democrats?

Stem cell research will help provide cures for a variety of diseases and when good ole boy Jeff Suppan comes down with ALS or Parkinsons, he should be denied the very treatment he is bitching about. Fuck him. I hope he tanks in whatever games he plays in. Asshole.

I'm still of the mindset that we need to hound on one of the issues that that FRC and other conservative groups tout as THE reason for marriage - procreation. My stance is that if married couples choose to NOT have children, they SHOULD NOT have the rights of marriage i.e. tax breaks, shared fortunes, etc.
BTW, having recently moved to Iowa, I registered and voted absentee last night and I feel LIBERATED!

In the last election an initiative to legalize small amounts of marijuana in your own home in the state of Nevada was defeated. The RNC spent $200,000,000.00 to thwart the will of the voters. Do the breakdown, how far would this amount of money go in a social program? The war on drugs is a war against the people of America. "There is big money in keeping people from being free". Is a line of dialogue from the movie "Armed and Anonymous". Private prisons and dehumanizing conditions are the problem, not some one taking a toke in the privacy of thier home. Take America away from the people that would criminalize you, your children, your neighbors and all that you associate with. Vote! VOTE! I cannot say it loud enough. Private armies and prison camps are on the way if you do not. Your choice. You cannot support a police state without criminals, if you do not have enough criminals you must manufacture them by passing laws that cannot be lived with.

Take the United States away from those who would legalize criminal invaders lured by big business and the government that supports it. The police state rejects some as some are apparently desirable criminals. Vote for law, vote for order, vote against fake religion and the fake religion business.

"The GOP candidate, Heller, is anti-choice"
Thank you John, this time you used language that accurately defines the position.
Last night I fired up a letter to Ed Shultz to express my outrage at his continued use of right wing language. This is an important issue, the left has to wake up about it.

Friends,
My staff told me about the postings today, and I wanted to sign on myself to thank you for all your kind words and support. Our race is dead even, 40-40, and this is our chance to capture a critical GOP-held seat. Things couldn’t be going any better here and your outpouring of support today is going to make the difference.
I want to give a special thanks to John at America Blog for listing me as a featured candidate. It’s such an honor, and it makes me proud to be out in the net roots!
As you know, my district is the largest in the country except for the at-large seats. We have 825 precincts in my district, and we’ve got to get out the vote in every one of them. Here’s a challenge for you: to fully fund our GOTV plan, I need to raise an additional $41,250, $50 per precinct. We’re $41,000 away from meeting our goal, and I hope you will consider adopting a precinct in my district by contributing $50 for our GOTV effort.
There is so much at stake this election. Thank you for all that you’ve done and will continue to do to get our country back on track.
Jill
