Security company Blackwater U.S.A. is buying Super Tucano light combat aircraft from the Brazilian manufacturer Embraer. These five ton, single engine, single seat aircraft are built for pilot training, but also perform quite well for counter-insurgency work. Brazil. The Super Tucano is basically a prop driven trainer that is equipped for combat missions. The aircraft can carry up to 1.5 tons of weapons, including 12.7mm machine-guns, bombs and missiles. The aircraft cruises at about 500 kilometers an hour and can stay in the air for about 6.5 hours per sortie. One of the options is a FLIR (infrared radar that produces a photo realistic video image in any weather) and a fire control system for bombing.

Blackwater already has a force of armed helicopters in Iraq, and apparently wants something a little faster, and more heavily armed, to fulfill its security contracts overseas.

I did all kinds of drugs in high school and college. That was wrong. So I lie and tell my kids that I didn't do drugs and they shouldn't either.

Perhaps these "self-loathing" gays KNOW that gay sex is wrong and so preach against it even as they engage in it. Wrong is wrong. Gay sex is wrong. And it doesn't matter if a right-wing GOP religious freak is caught having gay sex. Sure, he's a hypocrite. But it doesn't make gay sex acceptable.

Is nobody else upset & alarmed that the media are absolutely promoting the meme that:

And you won't. ZGay liberals get so giddy everytime a Republican is outed, that they don't stand back and see the big picture. If they did, they would see the wisdom of letting the scandals die as quickly as possible.

It's partially through blogs like this one that the Craig scandal ("gays have sex in public restrooms") and the Foley scandal ("gays stalk little boys") stay in the news for so long -- and reinforce negative stereotypes.

Here's my report from the Vigil tonight.

My friend Paul had called me today to see what was up and whether I was going to the vigil against the war. Told him I was and I'd talk to him more there. I think he wants me to present at some sort of Bioneers thing that is happening here in Oct.

I drove downtown from the church thing on the west side of town for the vigil, got there a bit late. It was at the Tom Foley Federal Courthouse. About 50 people there, not the largest gathering we've had, not the smallest either.

Saw my friend Bart, a former candidate for US House, retired teacher, Lands Council Board member, and long time activist. Wants me to come out to his house for a solar assessment. Saw my friend Tom and his son, Tom's the GU Philosophy professor and avowed Marxist. He and I almost got arrested at the 4th of July protest thing with the anarchists in the park. (18 people arrested for exercising their free speech rights on Independence Day.)

Later Tom gave a rousing speech to the group. Finally saw my friend Paul and his girlfriend, but never did get a chance to talk to him, and he didn't come on our walk from the Federal Building over to the park to put symbolic dog tags on the runner statues.

One of the speakers I'd never met before, but have seen him on the newspapers blogs. He's a retired Optometry doc, now a minister (I think) and runs a soup kitchen downtown at the big Methodist church. Also a Vietnam era vet, who served in Panama, not 'Nam. He's also on the board of PFlag Spokane. Great guy, we had a long talk afterwords. He had been a student of Bart's when Bart was a teacher. Also at the vigil, well, last time Chad Mitchell was there (he's from Spokane), but this time a wasn't but he wrote a song for the event, and another long time activist sung it and played guitar. We also had the Raging Grannies. Also saw my good friend Marianne from the Peace and Justice Action League. The mother of a female captain helo pilot who joined in 98 to do search and rescue missions for the Army, but is now in Iraq spoke very eloquently. Made me cry. All the names of the dead from the war from WA were read out loud. Very emotional. Had a few heckles but mostly support from passers-by.

If Clinton were to be elected it would be by a narrow margin, not nearly enough to have the kind of mandate needed to correct all that chimpco has destroyed, Obama might have a better shot since people would have opened a new era by electing a minority but I think he would face a lot of resistance from closeted race bigots, Edwards has a sound message and less baggage, I hope he has a chance to sell his plan before the selection is made.

And maybe, then, we can all learn something so the rest of the men out there don't have similar misunderstandings.

Lesson No. 1: If a guy is in an adjoining stall, it's probably not a good idea to knock and then step into the guy's stall.

This was one of Allen's major social faux pas. Generally, the rule is one guy per stall, except for heart attacks. And even that's a borderline call.

Actually I just checked and KS has moved its primary this year up to Feb 5 when most of the country votes. That's a big change. So there is a chance I guess that the race could still be competitive. If so that will be the first in my lifetime. By the time they are done counting the votes in DC, Florida, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, S. Carolina and Wyoming most likely the decision will already have been made for me as usual.

There are plenty of clues about Craig that would lead one to believe he's gay.

For instance, marrying his current (and only) wife one year after the 1982 scandal involving pages (who bought their silence, BTW?). A woman who already had 3 kids who Craig adopted. His beard of 24 years.

Wake up from your denial of your husband's sexuality, Mrs. Craig. I mean, if he doesn't want to boink you, then he's either having affairs with other women, or he's gay.

A peck on the cheek once in a while sure as hell wouldn't work for me...although for some women, if the money's good, they won't care about the lack of sex.

Around here in NC, charter schools are a code word for fundie schools--they'd rather do their thinly-veiled proselytizing on the state's dime instead of spending their own money.

The Larry Craig tidbit has the country in a tizzy. Is he or isn't he? I say, Don't Ask Don't Tell. Or is that not a propos at this time? This shows how far gays have come. The disgrace of Oscar Wilde is still around. Romney, that paragon of excellent hypocrisy, rushes to judgment and we gays of the country, foot tappers all, recognize the scene which repeats over and over. I remember at the university where Summer School was loaded with married guys who came to get away from their wives and carry on with the men folk. They came from near and far and a jolly old time was had by all. This too shall pass and in a few days Craig will be nothing but another man disgraced for following his urges that won't go away. As always, I feel so sorry for his family. They, too, will pay the consequences. The unpardonable thing is his voting record against gays although as the French say To understand everything is to pardon everything. (Tout comprendre, c'est tout pardonner.)

Just saw Craig's presser...gawd, the triangulating, the denial, the blaming--of everyone but himself--the sheer GALL.

Says he'll give another one in a month to announce his plans for running again--heh heh...waiting to see what the total fallout will be, I would suppose.

Meanwhile, Congress should introduce a law requiring every single member, both House and Senate, to report any arrests within 30 days to their Ethics Committees. This would eliminate the kind of coverup Craig engaged in (including pleading to a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge).

He excoriated the Idaho Statesman...who showed great restraint in not reporting this arrest on June 12, the day after his arrest.

Gregory, gays having sex in a publicly attended place is no more acceptable than what my then 15 year old grandson saw at a public concert (outdoors, even): a woman giving head to a guy (most of the crowd was heading out).

When I take a shit, I want to do so in private. I do not want some pervert looking into my stall -- that should be a crime.

If you want sex, get it somewhere else - lots of children are cut loose to go into public restrooms.

I think it is perfectly appropriate to arrest someone who "stares" into your stall and then makes advances in the next stall over.

Any gay man who's ever been cruised in a bathroom by a pathetic closet case like Larry Craig knows that he is guilty. Give me one good reason why a straight man who has no interest in other men would reach his hand underneath the bathroom stall occupied by another man who was mirroring his foot tapping. Give me one good reason why he was peaking through the stall door into an obviously occupied stall. Any gay man who reads the story about Sen Larry Craig's arrest for lewd conduct in an airport bathroom knows he's guilty. What straight man would plead guilty to such a charge? In all honesty, I don't give a shit that he was cruising another guy in a bathroom. Being closeted about your sexuality causes you to act out sexually in ways most people would not, but to get caught and publicly deny it means he is a liar in the worst way because he's apparently got himself fooled. And remember this man has voted against every aspect of gay rights that have come across his desk. Self-haters are any community's worst nightmare. If anything, we can at least hope this arrest destroys his political career.

Let's not even get started on Mark Foley's inappropriate IM's with UNDERAGE male pages in Washington. Any man who pursues an underage person for sex is a SEXUAL PREDATOR. Yet Repulicans, including the President, continue to defend these men as reputable members of their political party. I'm not a "republican hater" I just think that any person in authority who has the power to vote against gay rights should be allowed to have their sexuality examined. I'm not for "outing" anyone, as it's a personal decision each person has to make in their own time, UNLESS you have the power to limit or take away rights from the gay community. I only wish the undercover cop in the Larry Craig story had let the sexual advance go just a little further so that the evidence would be undeniable.

Hey Senator Craig.....you admitted your guilt in a court of law....you are guilty. If as a United States Senator, you do not know the law, then you should not hold that office. You pleaded guilty, you can't take it back. Deny yourself all you want, but the writing's on the wall for everyone to read. And every gay man who ever struggled with his sexual identity or was forced to hide it (like me in the Army from 1988-1992) knows you are a liar.

I don't care if you ever admit that you are gay, as that's your cross to bear, but STOP VOTING AGAINST GAY RIGHTS.

The funny thing is, I tried to email Larry Craig via his website, but it will only let you email him if you are a resident of his state. I could have lied and said I was a resident, but that would make me no better than him. I do, however, plan to email my own Senator's and demand he NOT be allowed to vote on gay issues from this point forward. He's a disgrace to all Senator's and most importantly, he's a disgrace to our legal system. For every gay man out there living a happy and productive life, he's now put a very negative stereotype back onto our community.

The weirdest was that guy Finkelstein, who was a powerful Republican operative, specifically aiming at social/cultural matters, who as soon as gay marriage was legalized in Massachusetts went and married his long-time lover.

In some ways, that's quite romantic... but this is a guy who is happy to help his party keep gays in the 49 other states from marrying.

Of course, IOKIYAR. Bill Clinton said something about him either being really machiavellian-- just using the homophobia to attract more votes-- or full of self-loathing.

Actually, I think these guys are both-- they hate themselves and us too, because they refuse to be honest with us and think they can manipulate us with lies.
