As an off and on reader of Free Republic for many years, I have to say I find this stunning. Bush actually wants to align himself with the Freepers?

You might recall that a few years ago some seriously misguided kids produced a film called "Bumfights". That's what reading Free Republic is like, watching a movie like "Bumfights" - people who have no grasp of the readily available facts of the matter (any matter, they so often have their facts wrong) arguing with each other over where the line of conservatism should be drawn. Conservatism in their view is often identical to evangelical Christianity.

The contributors are, will you believe me if I make a blanket statement?, just plain dumb. Oh, there are a few exceptions. But you don't have to look long and hard to find someone saying something stupid there, something just plain stupid. I don't mean that they are saying something with which I disagree, I mean something dirt eating, rock sucking stupid.

It's entertaining in a way but overall it's disheartening.
