It sounds like you are talking to Garfield there Mark. It is true Pix does talk to the animals, and when she talks to my kittens she normally gets a reply. But then so do I ;o)

If it leapt at your jugular and planted its claws firmly in your neck then that meant "I wuv you"
What about the cat's body language? If it came towards you and/or rubbed up against your legs, that meant "take me home and feed me." If it stopped what it was doing but stayed where it was, that meant, "feed me, but I'm not sure if you're worthy of taking me home." If it arched its back and/or hissed, that meant, "feed me and then kindly fuck off."
We used to have a cat whose response to every comment directed at him was "Whyyyyyyyyyyyy?"
It was like talking to a five year old.
Man: "Morning Cat."
Cat: "Sod off, can't you see that I'm licking my arse?"
It's also quite possible that every response the cat made was "please feed me now". One of ours talks back all the time, you can hold very nice conversations with him that leave both of you totally baffled.
Pix talks to cats. She says "meow", they say "meow" back.
But if I say "meow" to Pix she says "grow up"
Just make sure you apologise to the cat tomorrow morning.
