Elevate my thinking

Gravatar If anyone's fighting for the title of Defender of Woking, it should be Pete.

Gravatar That is lucky. I've been assaulted twice in the 5 years I've lived in London...but I did live in Hackney during both of them. I reported it to the police but there wasn't much they could do. One of them involved 20 black youths on the Eastbound platform at Hackney Central Station.

Gravatar Woking doesn't already belong to the people?

Gravatar Maybe Ben is in fact some kind of latter-day Zorro?
Roaming the streets, protecting the innocent and attempting to win back Californi-sorry-Woking for the people?

Gravatar I have no doubt at all I'd turn my money over like a complete cream puff.

Ben - that is one cool little anecdote. So intrigued by what you were doing roaming the streets with an unsheathed sword.

Gravatar One of the things I learned via my brother the police officer was to never argue or struggle with an assailant bearing a weapon. He'd told me that the best thing to do was to give them whatever it was they wanted. HOWEVER .. when a friend and I were held up via gunpoint in a small boutique here in NYC, that was the last thing on my mind. The guy was after cash, and as I'd had $100 in my purse, he wasn't getting it. Instead, I dug into the pocket of my jeans and gave him whatever loose change was there - I think it was $8.00 -- point is, though you know what you're "supposed" to do, when it happens your mind goes elsewhere ... I'm glad you survived the mugging with minor scrapes when it easily could have been worse.

Gravatar These people are stupid, so giving them money only encourages them.

I was once attempted-mugged while holding, in my hand, without a case, a sword, (sabre) of the fencing variety. And this guy said he had a knife. Doh!

Gravatar Just as well he didn't have more than two braincells to rub together, eh?

And a bit of a shame you'd already used up L for Lyrics so you couldn't use it for Lucky.

Gravatar Keep living in hope, but maybe drink somewhere else.

Gravatar Oh no, I always think I'm lucky, but then I think that some terrible thing is waiting to happen. Well, I'm glad you didn't get hurt too much and that you kept your money, and maybe you ARE still lucky. And thank you for that link last week, too.

Gravatar Yikes. Camden's such a nasty place.

Gravatar So D isn't for David?

Ye bahstad.

Gravatar While we all know it's really stupid to fight people like that, I think we would all probably have the same response.

I know that the only reason it was slightly better that my purse was taken without me noticing it was happening was that I would have fought tooth and nail, and probably come off the worse for wear as a result, if I'd realised what was going on.

Glad you're not too seriously hurt.
