Elevate my thinking

Gravatar Mike - the name you're looking for is Peter. He had the sort of look of Mark Gardner from Ride circa 1990, with a bit of Mick Jagger thrown in. Couldn't sing, though.

Not that I'm a Fame Academy obsessive or anything. Perish the thought.

Oh, and I once dreamt that Elton John worked in our office as a web developer, and played piano for the staff at lunchtimes. I would provide the link to the entry about it on my site, but I think self-linking is *so* vulgar, don't you?

Gravatar How did I know you'd know that, Mike?

Gravatar Actually, one of this year's Fame Academy candidates did The Cure's "Friday I'm In Love". You know, the faux-indie-ish, up-himself, not-actually-all-that-good-at-singing one.

Gravatar Now that I would definitely watch, Wendy.

Gravatar Why don't the contestants on "Pop Idol" and "American Idol" ever cover The Cure? Just wondering.

Gravatar I think you read my blog.

Gravatar Early Elton is fantastic, dunno about his mawkish recent stuff.

Gravatar Elton John favorite: I'm Still Standing

Gravatar Knowing Susanne personally, I'm glad you didn't have a massive go at the contestants of Pop Idol (although being forced to watch it week after week is becoming a bit of a pain). I know that she has had terrible trouble with the types of songs in the last few weeks , but this week Susie is doing a personal version of Ticket to Ride and if she goes out, she'll go out doing a song she likes.

And she isn't a wannabee, she fell into the competition and is very very suprised she has got anywhere. I think that comes out in her personality and why she is well liked, even if she isn't the best singer.

Ahem, far more information than is needed. Elton John? Good in small doses.

Gravatar I like Elton John, what's wrong with that ?

Gravatar as long as irony is the new black, the hipsters will just assume that you're being hip and ironic by admitting that you like elton john.

they need never know the truth.

Gravatar Does that make it alright for me to admit that I'm a massive Abba, Erasure and Donna Summer fan?

Gravatar The PSBs have also done a remix of a song called Hooked On Radiation, by a band called Atomizer, which has been out on CD single for a month or so. It's uber-trendy and awfully awfully good.

Oh, sorry, Elton John. About 3 years ago, in a fit of misplaced nostalgia, I made the mistake of buying a cheapo sale copy of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Three or four great tracks, but mon dieu, the rest is just seven shades of shite. Oopsy!

My Top 10 of Elton John songs that it's OK To Like:

1. Your Song
2. Daniel
3. I'm Still Standing
4. Sacrifice
5. Are You Ready For Love
6. Ego (late 70s, not a big hit)
7. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
8. Crocodile Rock
9. I Want Love
10. Grey Seal (from aforementioned shite album)

PS I want lovely Suzanne to win Pidol, even though she can't always sing terribly well. They can get People in for that, can't they?
