You're not one for light reading, are you? And you're reading The Ballad of the White Horse to a 3 year old? Uh, what kind of reaction are you getting?
I read Belloc's bio of Richelieu quite some time ago. I loved the Pope's words upon hearing of Richelieu's death: that if there is a God the duc deRichelieu will have much to answer for; if not, why then he has lived a successful life.

I don't have time for light reading.
Not much of a reaction, I admit. The cadence captivates her, though, if I read smoothly.
I knew so little about Richelieu before I picked up the book at the library; it's been a joy being educated about him.

That's quite a reading load -- do you work? .
Sometime you really ought to get around to reading Harry Jaffa's A New Birth of Freedom. I'm with Professor Tom West in thinking it perhaps the greatest book ever written on America, yes greater than Tocqueville.
