It seems to me loyalty is alive and well, that it's merely shifted as villains and heroes have been recast.

Much of the Left sees "Amerika" primarily in terms of Jim Crowe, Indian genocide, consumer brainwashing, and pollution.

And so they hover between their joy in posturing over those issues, and a secret hunch America may well be better than alternative systems, and paper it over with talk of the beauty and fundamental patriotism of "dissent".

Loyalty to America is, among them, necessarily somewhat vexed.

Undiluted loyalty has, there, shifted to race and group. Venom over the betrayal of loyalty, and charges like "Jewish Nazi", meet any Republican who is openly gay, or openly black.
