I'm calling bs on this one.

Gravatar Ha! Let me know if you are right.

Gravatar This has already been covered by Wizbang and Michelle Malkin. It's real; but the consensus seems to be that the essay is so poorly written it deserves the grade it got.

Gravatar If this is the same young Kuwaiti who was on Michael Medved, he came off as very sharp, articulate and sincere. I haven't seen the paper in question, but I wouldn't be too quick to side with those claiming it was too poorly written to pass.

Gravatar I read the blogs on the grading issue from the professors. Their major claim was he failed because he didn't address the essay question as it was written.

I found their grading it a load of BS. I didn't find the grammar all that bad, either.

The essay question begged the issue. It could have been taken as a direct - "tell me what so and so says about this aspect of history" which means basic regurgitation of course material, or it could have been taken as -- "America sucks, give me reasoning which agrees with this and supports my propaganda."

Gravatar con't.

I would have done the same thing as the student had I been in that class. It's one thing to hear from many perspectives on a subject, including Marxist ones, but it's another to be asked, in essense, to endorse odious opinions by acquiescing to their premise.

That is what this professor did - demand acquiescence to a very false opinion and perspective. In fact, a rather vile one.

The question could easily have been posed to illicit the student's understanding of all the material covered (or points of view) without forcing him to take the professor's side in the matter.

This was classic re-education camp behvior by the professor. I'm surprised all those other professors had no problem with that approach to learning.

Gravatar Don't be surprised. When the Left takes over an institution, "re-education" is par for the course. Every Communist country did it in its early years....

Gravatar Nothing new.

Back when I was in collage about 1970 a ki who was accepted on probation for poor math background and required to take a remedial math course. He made the mistake of wearing an ROTC uniform to this very leftist math class and got an “F” on the midterm. Same for the final I was one of the one who double-checked the test before a protest was filed. The administration corrected his grade but did not inform the professor or otherwise take any action. The professor went on to be chairman of the math departm

Gravatar I have my doubts about the story as well. I found the essay quite poorly written and, as others on the conservative side of the blogosphere have pointed out, it did not address the question asked.

More thoughts here.
