Gravatar Excellent post.

Gravatar Good post; I hadn't looked at it quite like that (a feature I've come to expect from your blog). My counter: A majority leader -- assuredly not a Senator -- must stand for the principles of his party; must help advance his party; and must above all else not exist to the detriment of his party. As I noted on my page, I, at this point, don't care whether or not he's a closet racist. He is hurting his party; has, in fact, hurt his party every single year since 1996. You can argue that the Republican victories this last term owe in some measure to him; I'd disagree, but it's an argument worth having. But even assuming arguendo that the same is true, he is also the reason why those elections were -- needed to be -- significant, for he undermined his party's majority up until then. (As I've said before, no one should ever be in a position where they rely on Jim Jeffords.)
He does not need to go because of his private thoughts on race; he needs to go because he's an idiot who hurts his party -- and its base -- virtually every time he opens his mouth.

Gravatar Good points, Christopher. Thanks Joshua.
