Robert -
Wow! "...100,000 new programmers a year..." that would be great news.
I have been lurking on your weblog for quite a while now. I am always very impressed with your views and commentary. I am currently working through a .NET book also called "Developing Web Applications with MS Visual Basic.NET and MS Visual C#. NET". I have not seen the book from Mickey Williams. Is it a Web Application book? Where did you come up with the 100,000 figure? What kinds of skills do you believe these new style "programmers" will need. I am currently one of the many unemployed Web Application developers trying to pull myself up by my bootstraps to get back into the workforce again. I am trying to stay in the IT field because I really enjoy it but the lack of available jobs is really a problem.
I will let you get back to your studying and good luck.

Mickey's book is just a big honking one on Visual C#.NET. It's from MSPRess. Let me get through a few chapters and I'll write a review.
Yeah, IT jobs are really hard to find right now. My brother just got laid off. I know it's tough out there.
Actually, the jobs I'm talking about aren't IT jobs. At NEC I'm not an IT guy, but I have needs for IT. Unfortunately the company isn't looking to make me more efficient. I gotta do that myself (and if I succeed, that'll help my career).
Will I be called a programmer? I doubt it.
I made up the 100,000 number, but it sounds reasonable if you think of all the little projects that aren't being done right now.

Robert, SAP offers the .NET Connector, which allows both RFC (SAP proprietary) and web service calls from .NET into SAP.
See http://www.microsoft-sap.com/
net..._connector.aspx for more information. Feel free to contact me with any questions. I'd also like to hear how this project progresses.

Awesome! Thanks so much. It'll be a while, but I'll keep plugging away at it.
