yeah, mgmt is the key to all this. i'll be watching your space here as you 're-open under new management'[grin]. already i see you posting items regarding msft culture. will that be allowed to continue unchecked? will be interesting.

Gravatar I sure hope so. If Microsoft wants to turn around its public perception, it'll need to.

Gravatar I'm sure we'll slap Robert in any number of ways once he's been assimilated, but I don't think his blogging about MSFT culture will be an issue.

I know people are waiting for the shoe to drop, but I believe there is no shoe on this one.

Gravatar Between Don slapping me, and Dave killing me, is anyone getting the idea that I'm in a no-win situation here?

Gravatar While I don't want to be seen as "bashing" management or co-workers, I want to share thoughts, ideas, and observations about what I'm learning, especially if it helps me build relationships with others who feel the same way.

I think it's our responsibility as employees who really believe the company mission (helping customers reach their potential) to listen to those customers (good, bad, or otherwise). We have a lot to learn, and I'd rather work on developing a relationship with our customers based on mutual trust and respect, than pretend there isn't a problem.

I'm particularly proud to have someone like Robert joining the company. I'm sure there are many, many more like him already at Microsoft. That's a community I want to be part of (or part of building).

Gravatar John,

I am glad to be working with you too. Let's get together after May 12.

Gravatar "It has nothing to do with the tools. It has everything to do with management"

Amen to that, mate. If the Cluetrain authors had written a software product instead of a website and book, it'd be called Blogger (or MT, or Radio, or [your blogproduct name here]).

I agree with 99.9% of your stuff. Always have. But...

<shameless promo>
Given the proximity of these two thoughts: "Management doesn't want us to blog..." and "They want their...PR people to control the public speech..."

I'm wondering what you would make of a Senior VP at the world's largest PR agency who is also a frothing-at-the-mouth advocate for blogging and an active blogger?
</shameless promo>

Incidentally - I've been trying to figure out an appropriate relationship between PR and blogging, here: http://tinyurl.com/armq

...and elsewhere. Not sure yet that there can be one. But I'm working on it...

/m
