seems like there should be a multi-purpose tool that would do the same, plus more, since this "gauge" is getting info from Washington DOT just like many websites.
Since you are currently looking for a place to live, I hope you'll choose somewhere *close* to MS so you won't have to cross the bridges. It would be great to have you actually *in* Seattle but if you have the choice, overlake, redmond, etc is better for driving.

Seems like someone could just use a wirelessly-connected PDA and use the WSDOT's own website with better graphics. Not sure what such a connection would cost to use compared to this thing's cost, and I don't know that the battery life of a PDA would be better than this simple device, either. Plus this thing is cheap - leaving it in the car would be much less worrisome than leaving a nice net-enabled PDA in the car.

Downloading the WSDOT's webpage on a regular basis requires a lot of bandwidth, and GSM is charged by the byte.
There is another option that only requires about 100 bytes per update; it's a program I wrote a while back.
