If any of those "winners" use OpenText Livelink then just shoot me now. Don't be fooled by the pretty pictures on their web site (http://www.opentext.com/livelink/), or the "Open" part of the company's name.

Losing access to Corpnet took me a long time to recover from.... and that was back in 2000. I just got access, again, for a few weeks (I'm temporarily doing some presentations at the Office launches), and I cannot believe how much BETTER it is, now! The withdrawal pains will be even worse, this time, I fear...

I'd be interested in knowing more about this super-duper Intranet of Microsoft's...intranets being one of my interests. Does one of the MS Intranet managers/developers have a blog? I'd subscribe in a second... Intranets development knowledge is wrapped in cotton wool so much, which is why Jakob Nielsen gets so much attention for his top 10 - it's the only way to find out what others are doing

Very few people actually get to see the full Microsoft intranet and all it's capabilities. I wonder if he even got to see it as part of his study.

Just linked to this article. What intrigued me was more your comments about how Microsoft's intranet is 'decentralized'. How does this work for road warrior types that need to participate in the intranet? Can you share anymore specifics?

Yes. All of us are given a Smart Card that gets us access to everything on the corporate network here.

Hi Robert, I am being a persistent flea in your ear here I would like to know how you have managed to decentralize your intranet so everyone contributes. I'm being serious, as I've found in my own experience as an Intranet Manager that getting people to publish on the Intranet is very difficult. So whether I like it or not, it usually ends up being centrally published.

In general, I don't name the intranets that didn't win, because I don't want to generate any negative publicity for those companies. (Being, say, #11 out of the large number we reviewed is no shame, but society tends to view people who didn't win negatively).

But just to lay the rumor to rest: Microsoft's intranet was not one of the nominees this year.

We will be happy to consider it next year if they are willing to spill the beans (which can always be done in a way that blanks out any confidential information from the screenshots).
