Great analysis and good read. As a Blazers fan, the KG option had crossed my mind, but age is a worry. With great young talent, even if Oden only turns out to be the next Mutumbo, the Blazers will be very, very good in 2-3 years.
If you added KG or Yao, the rest of the team is still a year or two away from supporting them enough to become one of the top 3 or 4 in the West (top 4 in the NBA).

First the comment about centers not aging well, Yao is 27, at last I checked, and if you look at the history of great centers then you would know they play there best when they hit that 28 years old range. You wait 8 years for Oden to hit that. And you think he will stay in Portland, he would have to be bat shit crazy to stay after his rookie contract, in a NBA back water like that. My question would be how could they say no to Amare? First Team all NBA, was he not? Going back to Yao, that would be one that could happen given how it is believed that the Rockets will change to a more run and gun style game, one in which Yao could not handle. But Oden could play at a faster speed. So the Rockets will have to bail on Yao. So if the blazers get a point guard that is not total shit, then they become a deep playoff team overnight.
i'm thinking maybe too much stock is being placed in oden at this point...honestly if i'm portland, i'm seriously considering taking durant with the first pick. also, are we serious that you wouldn't trade oden for wade, anthony, or amare????

Yes, we're dead serious (and a bit tipsy). We wouldn't trade the Oden pick for Wade, Anthony, or Amare, for the reasons we stated. Would you rather have a great center for 82 games, or a star player for the 52 games he isn't injured or serving some suspension for slapping someone or getting busted with weed in his room?
