Exactly. If what the accusers say is true that I feel compelled to reclaim the Red Ensign from the Haters and how better than to call it my own, and wrap myself tightly in the flag. How long will they will they claim the Red Ensign as their own when such as I stand under it?
The KKK used a cross as a symbol of their right to terrorize - does that mean I should disown the cross because its meaning was perverted?

When we were first thinking about flying the flag, I think there was a conscious decision not to let those sorts take it as their own.
(These were my thoughts, anyway.)
I think it has worked brilliantly, myself.

Ben is correct. There was a lot of e-mail discussion about unsavoury racist types who also use the flag. Ultimately my use of it is predicated on two things:
1) Imperial Britain, for all her obvious faults, spawned thriving democracies around the globe, including this one. I look with favor upon the instutitions and conventions handed down to us -- things like the rule of law, respect for the individual and Westminster-style democracy. The Quebec Act of 1774, which allowed conquered French citizens to retain French civil law and Catholicism. Upper Canada's prohibition on slavery in 1792, first jurisdiction in the British Empire to do so.
2) Good men and women fought and died under the Red Ensign to wipe out actual fascists, eugenicists and racists, and I'm not prepared to let latter-day bigots steal an honorable part of our heritage.

Gawd, you right whingers really are fighting a culture war that exists only in your imaginations, aren't you?
What most of you don't seem to get is that your attitudes simply stink and many on the left in Canada are getting sick of being labelled by you right whingers as liberal elitists or saddam loving, terrorist appeasers and are beginning to fight back. If you don't like what Flynn has done, then stop trash talking the left.
Otherwise you will be associated with the racists who also fly the Red Ensign. Turnabout is, after all, fair play.

Wow, Rob, that was really deep. I'm a changed man after reading that tripe.

Hey, I'm just giving you fair warning. What you do with that warning is up to you. Frankly I'd prefer to see the Canadian blogosphere not devolve into name calling and mud slinging like its American counterpart, but clearly you and the rest of the right whingers do want to see just that. So, you reap what you sow.

You're right about the name calling. Let's see if the rhetoric can be toned down a tad. You had a good post on your blog Rob, and I'm curious to hear your comments on that. How's that for a start?
