Sadly people who think like Flynn won't be inclined to consider the symbols "in the context in which they are used". They're hysterical and pathetic in the extreme - they live in a black and white world, and all things grey terrify them because they cannot be pigeon-holed into pre-set notions of right & wrong.

You know, he always seemed so reasonable back when he was just a commenter named Simon. I mean, that's why I blogrolled him -- he was a rational lefty (and he'd blogrolled me).
Now... well, the one-man crusade against the Red Ensign is just a little weird.
And I _won't_ subscribe to the interpretation that it can be as bad as the Stars and Bars -- Canada got rid of slavery early on, and it generally has been pretty progressive for its time, in terms of individual rights -- and on the right side of history in the wars it has fought.

I think it is hilarious the McClelland comes here and calls me a rube for accusing Flynn of calling the Red Ensign Brigade racist. Nowhere in the post did I say that that is Flynn's position. Imagine being called a rube by a guy who can't even understand what he's just read. Bye Rob!
