Nice, post. I've been to a few protest marches in the last decade or so (In San Francisco). While I was only a babe when the hippies protested, something in the West has changed since then. Protests don't have the power they once did, at least not in Europe and North America.
I think it's because we've seen it for half a century, and we've made up our minds on the issues that continue to be protested. We've learned to tune them out.
We also have free speech; protests aren't as effective because we can protest. Where they may have some effect is where people are oppressed. The recent march in Beirut has gotten the attention of some of us in the West. Let's hope it has an effect where it needs to.
