Hi Curt,
Rebecca plugged me into this posting and your blog. I made a few comments myself on the movie at my blogspot. Appreciate your thoughts and insights. Funny though, that I haven't read a word from anyone on the role that Our Blessed Mother plays in this story. I think it's kinda interesting that the Virgin is the one sent by God to make sense of an otherwise cryptic victimization.
Seems like when humanity is most confused and most forlorn, she brings hope, meaning and solace. From that moment on, it all kinda makes sense.
Jesus and Mary says it all.
But maybe that's not quite fair...JMJ seems even more complete.

Thanks Curt - but what I really want to know is...was it a good movie or not? Worth the dough, or just wait till City TV runs it a couple of years from now?

When there is a conflict between a doctrinal idea and the person of God... the doctrinal thought is out of line.
People have the hardest time with this because it means throwing out a cherished conviction. It rocks their boat.
I didn't see the movie and am disinclined to, so I don't know if I would have more to say on it than this.

I guess that depends on how often you go out to the movies, Carlton. If you go infrequently, there might be better shows. Movies that treat faith thoughtfully are not too common, but net-net I'd give this one B-. The story and the ideas are the best thing about it.

Very good thoughts, Curt, thanks.
There was an excellent bit in Time mag a few years back, positing;
1) God is all good
2) God is all powerful
3) Bad things happen
Pick two out of three.
I look forward to seeing the film, but with small children we don't get out much...

Just happened by this blog after scanning through Google. I'm going to see this movie tonight (10/6) and wanted to know a bit more about it before I went. I was terrified by the movie "The Exorcist" and needless to say am a little hesitant to watch this one. I found your column excellent and very well put together. Easy to follow along with and though some bias you were well backed up with information. GREAT JOB!

I saw the movie last night and, for the most part, really enjoyed it. When I got home I did some research on the movie. Your site proved to be one of the most useful. Thanks.
