You're overgeneralizing. There are rebels and rebels. There are the sort you can justifiably castigate as you have, and the sort who've identified a legitimate oppression or oppressor that can and should be opposed.
Not all authority is legitimate. Concerning legitimate authorities, not all their demands are valid. Man is not God and should not presume the prerogatives of God -- yet this is the pattern of human authorities throughout our sorry history.
I didn't read the kind of rebellion you're describing into it. I had a more of a misunderstodd artist in day to day life in mind.
