I'm uber-jealous. I LOVE "Truck Got Stuck!" I heard it quite a bit when I was in Canada on vacation. I wish it were available Stateside, but sadly, it's not.

I'm not an iTunes fan, Curt. I joined, bought my music, and tried to listen to it on my MP3 player but doncha know - iTunes uses proprietary software that only an iPod can read.
Now I own music I can't listen to. And since I reaally like my $29 mp3 player, I'm not going to drop hundreds of dollars on an iPod.

It's less of an issue for me because my listening will be either from my PC or a CD in the car. Out of curiosity, carlton, if your buying your mp3's, where are you getting them from? Napster or something like it?

I like iTunes. It has a breadth of music selection no one else can match. Apple is really pushing into the independent labels, and they are responding.
The one thing I do is immediately burn a CD of any music I buy. This puts it into a neutral format for any use later. If you really want to play it on a non-iPod music player, simply re-rip the CD into the digital format of your choice. Sure, you have added another generation of quality degradation, but when I am listening to the Twangbangers (really, look for them) I don't think it makes that much difference. If you are really concerned about that level of quality, you should not be buying any downloaded music.
I say: find a digital music source you like and stick with it. Mainly because I firmly believe all digitally purchased and licensed music is in a proprietary format of some kind. If you have a non-iPod player, iTunes is not your best bet. (But a lot of people have iPods.) If you are happy with your music being attached to the Windows Media Player, or the Real Media Player, or the Napster license, go with it.

My mp3 player mostly has public domain political speeches (Churchill, Regan) and Peter Kreeft lectures, plus a chanted Rosary and similar stuff. I was going to augment this by actually putting music on it, but for the reasons mentioned it didn't work out.

I work with Steve Earle's first cousin, Paul, here in Texas. I have that "Millennium Collection" CD but was thinking about selling it on eBay. I am surprised you like Steve Earl music.
