Try Larry Borsato's Bleezer blogging tool. I think it might be just what you're looking for.
I have been using Wordpress since February (on my Mac) and love it.
I don't understand why the rich text editor won't work in Camino for you, as it does for me. You could also try downloading a WYSIWYG plugin for wordpress like editor monkey, which may work in Safari.
I was attracted to your post because of your mention of Civilization 4. I have played it a couple of times since I got it for Christmas. I've de-installed it and the box now sits in my closet, in a deep dark corner-- because it's TOO ADDICTIVE!!! OMG, I just had to get that thing off my computer, I could literally sit there all day and play it. Maybe when I have three days to kill, I'll install it back on my computer.

1) Camino gives the following error when I try to bring up the edit screen:
Redirect Loop: Redirection limit for this URL exceeded. Unable to load the requested page. This may be caused by cookies that are blocked.
Changing the cookie setting hasn't fixed it.
2) Where can I get this extention and will it work if I'm not running Wordpress myself?
ecto is the answer for composing posts on the desktop.

I've given Bleezer and Ecto a quick look. Bleezer has the benefit of being free, but Ecto appears a lot slicker. It seems a bit sluggish but maybe that's because I'm using it on an Intel Mac and it hasn't been upgraded to a universal app just yet. Looks promising though. Thanks Kevin! (why was this app such a well kept secret?). 
Actually, I use Wordpress on my iBook in both Safari and Camino without any problems whatsoever.
If you can't get it to work though, I highly recommend the widget for Dashboard from Wordpress.

Just so you know, while living in Vietnam for three months I could not access any blogs with the blogspot address. All were 'forbidden'. it's good to be back in Canada.
I'm glad that you have moved to somewhere that you are happy with. It seems to me that you are quite excited of each project that your doing. Then I wish you luck and success.
