the reason why you had to turn your stereo up was that either it wasn't hooked up a phono input or it doesn't have a phono input. Your turntable needs a phono preamp you'll really love it then. If you ever want to get another turntable i'd recommend Stanton's ST-150 its so freaking awesome....any other model of stantons are shite...
