Gravatar Haa - I can just see you yelling at those kids!

Would Pheobe not like the Amazon???

I actually wasn't thinking of it in that context though... More of between people and God. When I rely on people, I always get let down. When I 'try' to rely completely on God, I usually fail...or I'm just lonely. I don't think it should be that way though. I think I have a ways to go...hmm

Gravatar I had an experience like that in steph's 3rd grade class---huge popping eyes and a request to steph that her mom sub anytime they needed a sub. It is true that we humans need boundaries. And yes the first few lines were my own---not the devotional.

Gravatar Isn't high school fabulous? (Note the sarcasm you can't hear in my voice right now)

Gravatar When I subbed last semester, I too got stuck with ISS duty for middle school kids. When I walked in to relieve the teacher who was there he says to me, "Have you ever done this before?" With all the kids eyes looking at me, I say, "No." The teacher then tell says, "Well good luck then, these kids are not behaving today, the rules are on the board, I will be back in a while." After they all broke the rules for about five minutes, I stood up and made a similar speech and then just my evil look worked from then on to shut them up. The one positive thing is that I got to help a kid with his algebra. When the teacher came back, he was so happy that I was able to help the kid because he hadn't been able to. That made me feel at least a little more useful than a bad-kid-sitter.

Anyways, maybe ISS teachers are absent more than the regular teachers for a reason.

Gravatar lol..sorry just trying to picture you in a room of kids who were in ISS!

Gravatar I particularly enjoyed the part of the 3 tylenol and a giant frosted brownie.

Somehow, that seems like a perfect combination in this instance.

Thanks for the smile!

JB

Gravatar Oh, this is good! You're getting to practice The Mommy Voice. I'm sure you'll eventually need it

And it comes in handy in all kinds of situations. I've even used it on frat boys at Walmart. My friend just looked at me in awe when it worked charmingly well. But, really, won't it always work because everyone has a mommy!?!

Gravatar I guess I am wondering why you are in a high school if you are a med student?

Gravatar Tutu- I am substitute teaching 3 days a week to earn some extra cash

Gravatar I know that you pretty much tell me everything that you did that day when you get home - but I still really enjoy reading your blog because you add so much more detail. I especially like when you add in the extra voice-over moments or background sounds to what you were feeling or thinking at particular times. I also am glad to see certain references so that I know why you ask me questions like "What was Welcome Back, Kotter about" and "What high school was in Grease". I love being your source of needless information (well me & Google) - and I'm glad that you can put me to good use!

Gravatar Great post... Someone said something about the "mommy voice," yes, that's what it is, and yes it probably works with high schoolers (I'll find out some day, YAY!), but don't count on it working with your toddler. All I can say on that subject.

I LOVE Jessica's insight in your comments. Fun times. Tell her I said, she needs to have a blog. I feel like I never talk to her, but you all the time. LOL. Anyway. Great post. Enjoy the snow/sunsine today.

Gravatar Your comment on my site does not make me want to slap you. Yes, I had just arrived home from taking the test when I posted. I have also already taken it once before this. Previously when I took it, my math score was pretty low, but like you said my reading score COMPLETELY made up for it. I got a score that I would be happy with if that is all the higher I got. I just wanted to see how much I could raise it considering it was the beginning of my junior year when I took it for the first time. I think my brain was just really fried from a week that had two full days of practice tests plus my homework. I don't think I will be taking the prep class if I take it again next year. I think I will just save my notes from this year's class and take a few practice tests on my own if I feel the need. But when I did took it the first time I didn't study...at all, so we will see if anything changes. Sorry for the long comment.

Gravatar Darling Daughter,
Love the post brings back memories of my teaching days. The tylenol reminded me of the year I had 6th grade and had all boys in my class and one girl. most of the boys were type A personalities and if I just would have taken out stock in tylenol I would be wealthy today. Downed several a day, along with lots and lots of caffeine....suprised I don't have liver damage from that year. love you and keep the faith!!! ha

Gravatar Oh, there are so many reasons to not become a high school teacher.

Gravatar Great post (as usual!). Good to see you today, even if under not so fun circumstances (but hey, we had a "Sex and the City" moment)

Gravatar That's why I just laugh when...after I tell people that I'm an elementary music teacher...people smile sweetly and say, "Oh, how fun!" After you deal with 28 first-graders running around the room with tambourines and various other instruments, most yelling instead of singing, with one kid getting a bloody nose because he was spinning around and fell down...tell me how fun it is. Well, I really do enjoy it a lot, but it's work too. You understand that now, huh?

Gravatar Love your blog! I am a substitute teacher. I feel your pain. lol.

Gravatar LOL about the students who frankly walked out of the class only to be "returned!"

You crack me up!

Gravatar No - there was only a handful of kids with Downs, but they were hilarious nonetheless. I already know practically the entire family history of one boy and who all the 'cute boys' are in the group according to one of the girls.

I find it so odd how many of their characteristics and personality traits aro so much alike.

There WAS a girl named Jessica! I only vaguely remember Darcie's Jessica, but it could very well be her! I honestly don't know.

The majority of the kids are the type who you wouldn't really know were special ed until you talk to them - and a few even then I wouldn't know. They're the type we had in our highschool... With the exception of the Downs kids, I have absolutely no idea how to diagnose any of the kids

Gravatar Boy, am I late to the party on this one.

I love teaching high school. But then, I am also a colossal ass by nature. It works for me.

It pleases me greatly when the unwashed get indoctrinated to the joys of secondary education.
