Gravatar Can you believe you've made it?

Gravatar I'm impressed that you could get all this down to such a relatively small post!

Gravatar WOW! Thank you for sharing that! And I thought all Doctors were rich. No, not the new ones! Right?!

1st week of July, Lord please keep me and my entire family OUT of the hospital!

Gravatar I agree with Whitney... It's amazing that you were able to keep the explanation this length!

I can't believe you are almost an M.D. Have fun learning how to use it!

Gravatar I've always wondered how those last couple med school years into the first couple doctor years worked and that was a great explanation. So the interns get to deal with all the fireworks accidents?

Do you have any great plans for those 6 or so weeks you get, I mean I guess you move to your appointed city, and probably sleep a lot, but are you going to get to go on a vacation before you start?

Gravatar I'm glad you did this post, I am always confused with all of the progression of med students when I talk to them, and there are a lot here in Rochester! I have been told to avoid having a baby in July here at the university hospital for that reason. I don't think I realized how universal the dates and everything were though. Good to know!!

Gravatar Your post was great, so easy to read and understand. I think the whole medical field is interesting. I've really enjoyed reading your blog. Thanks!

Gravatar I'm so excited for you! I can't wait to hear! I remember just last year my good friends hubby got his letter and they moved to NM, she hates it, but she must follow her man!

Gravatar Congratulations! As a Pediatric Registered Nurse of 11 years, I applaud your amazing achievement....not to mention your awesome blog. Hope you will continue to share your journey through residency with us!!!!

Gravatar How excited are you? So, in about a month at noon, I'm going to look for something here or on facebook regarding "the envelope," K?

Gravatar What very interesting information! I really, really enjoy reading your blog.

Gravatar Whew! That was exhausting just reading it all! As corny as it sounds, I am so proud of you and how far you have come.

Gravatar I'm applying to one of those integrated programs (BS/MD) this fall. I'm scared.

Erm, anyway, congrats on making it to your last year of medical school!

Gravatar Darling Daughter,
Wow what an explanation. It seems just yesterday and also a long time ago when "it" all began. I don't care if I sound corny. I am so proud of you for sticking out the hard times and for you perseverance and dedication for choosing to study instead of having fun sometimes, for your discipline and caring heart. You are going to make a great doc! Oh, every blogger....this is MY DAUGHTER!!!! love you mom

Gravatar hey so i was just wondering,
do MD's have to get into residency or can't they just stop with their MD and become a regular physician? I always get confused my websites that say students that graduate med school then have to start residency for another 3-7 years. I thought that's only if you want to specialize. If you wanna be a general medicine doctor working at a hospital or clinic can't you just graduate with an MD from Med school and that's it? I'm so confused..

Gravatar Hi Im Naomi and Im Kayla...Naomi is 11 and Im 10....and we want to become Doctors!!!!!

Gravatar to kim:
weren't you reading? ^.^ She said after you get your MD, you "go into residency to practice" using it. ^.^

i found this very informative. as it is now august, good luck wherever you are!! so were you one of those "deranged" six year people? I am not as ambitious as you, but I am going to be an RN. ^.^ I hope all is well with you!!

Gravatar to Kim, "another random person" was NOT helpful, I read the piece and it does not SPECIFY that you MUST do a residency. So I will attempt to answer for you. It would seem that the requirement of and length of residency would depend on licensing. To get licensed each state has different requirements. For Family practice, maybe you just need 2 years residency in most states (this is an EXAMPLE only), whereas to become a brain surgeon you made need 8 years residency to become licensed in your state. The requirements for licensure vary by state and by specialty.

Gravatar Please, please, please help me!
I am a fifteen year old sophmore who is desperate to become a physician. I want this so badly and I am really feeling hopeless now about even getting into a medical school. Please help me!

Gravatar i want to be a missionary medical doctor

Gravatar Oh,my goodness! You very good at this!WOW!!!!Your my master!!!;D You make all my problems goes away!Tell u what? i'm a girl that's only 11 years old and i really wants to became a doctor when i grow up! Thank you very much!!!! Now,i know when to do,and it is thanks to you!!!!!Thank you.......!

Gravatar im 12 years old when i grow up i want to be a doctor and im just looking for stuff like how to become a doctor. it seems really hard.

Gravatar Nice blog. I dont think doctor is the right path for me, although I enjoy helping others I dont like helping my self to studys, crazy amounts of homework, and the weird hours you must endure. Call me lazy or whatever but I wouldnt be able to do it, good job for you though. Im thinking about going EMT to RN thanks for the blog

Gravatar I have a question, what major do I need to take during the 4 years before medical school? I know you said to take pre-med but my friends said I just need to take some natural science courses like biology. I'm a junior in HS but I'm not even sure which colleges I really want to attend. I was thinking of John Hopkins or St. Johns, or maybe even Princeton (if possible). Which colleges do you think is worth going to and hopefully offers scholarships or financial aid? Thanks.

Gravatar I have an associate degree in Gen studies from a community college. Where can I find a 6 year college to transfer into to become a pediatric doctor? Thanks, Mike

Gravatar ok so your first year in college if i wanted to be a doctor one day what should i take as a freshman ? what major

Gravatar Wow, seriously consider writing one of those "Something Something for Dummies" books. This post cleared up all of the things I've been trying o get from other sources- even my school counselor wasn't this clear! Thanks!

Gravatar Well, if andrew doesnt like the crazy hours or studying, don't go into EMT or RN either. As a medic, I'm on my 6th day straight on shift, average of 12-15 calls a day. As a paramedic or EMT you are FULLY responsible for patient care until you arrive at the hospital. And as quoted from an ER doc just today... "Lets be honest, nurses run this place."

Gravatar I've been an ER nurse for the past 2 1/2 yrs. I am really interested in enhancing my career in the medical field but i honestly do not wanna be a practitioner or teach. I'm very interested in medical school and I wanna believe that if I can do ER nursing that I should be able to handle the demands of MED school, but its all so scary to me because I see all the liability and the dangers of holding someone's life in your hands. If only I can Get into school and get the remaining pre-med courses out of the way...

Gravatar Thank you so very, very much for summarizing what would have caused me a great headache into this blog right here! I can't thank you enough. You've made things so much easier to understand.

Yours, Dementia.

Gravatar hey my name is denise jackson i want to become a doctor
