So...is it a death wish or a wish to give life to another?

When I worked for the Crime Beat at the Dallas Morning News, we started to call bikes Donorcycles. And with good reason. Saw them all too often.
Stupid and lovely. But less lovely when you come upon the remnants of a body in the road.

I wonder what his donor would think about that?

My kids' pediatrician told me that when they instituted the mandatory helmet law that donors went WAY down, but when they repealed it, they went back up. I think about that every time I see some future donor riding without their helmet.

I echo Miellyn's comment - although my husband is waiting to get qualified on a list for lung donation - so I guess if someone is going to be stupid - I hope they are donors! You are deeper than I am obviously - the lovely part escapes when we are struggling to stay alive.

To the donor guy - put your helmet on. Somebody died to give you that heart. Be responsible with it.

I find that stupid and lovely too!!!! I suspect that when you go through something like a heart transplant, your perspective on life changes. His obviously is a bit different than most people's!

More stupid than lovely. Look at the resources he's used and the ones he'd use if there was an accident. Great chair.

Unless organs can be twice-donated (which I doubt) it's just ungrateful and foolish.

He wouldn't donate his heart again. But there's lots of other things left. Kidney, cornea, skin, bones, liver, lungs...Just wanted to clarify

The gentleman should consider the logic (illogic?) of his ways more carefully.

I am a total safety helmet nut... but, it is kind of hard to argue with his logic, though I see other commenters have done so...

I have a family member who received two transplants (heart and kidney) who now refuses to eat healthfully and exercise and it seems just plain old stupid. Not lovely in the least, although he's likely too old to be a donor in any case. The logic of your patient escapes me, but I think I understand enjoying the freedom of living one's life.

Every biker I've driven past without a helmet I've labeled an idiot, yet I completely see the lovely. His explanation somehow makes perfect sense. Sometimes "thank you" won't suffice.

This man is truely enjoying his life. His burdens have been set free. I can imagine that he was weighed down by all that involved heart problems. Now that he is "better", he is ready to LIVE! It may be entirely to risky, but I'd rather die doing something I loved/enjoyed, than because my heart wanted a break.
And I love the chair!
