Gravatar If you look for the good in people, that is exactly what you'll find. Quoted from Pollyanna. =)

I just found your blog and my New Year's resolution (yes, I know it's a week early) is to read them all. I'm currently in February 07. Keep writing!

Gravatar Kudos to Dr. Popular for staying there when she could be in a much safer place.

You know, one of the people I respect the most at school (or I guess respected since she's gone-I don't want to type her name) said to one of her students as he was attacking her, "I want to treat you like the kind young man I know you are, but if you're going to act like an animal, I will treat you like an animal." She said the dynamics of their relationship totally changed, and he never attacked her again. It's amazing how much self respect and dignity a person can gain when someone treats them kindly.

Gravatar That is awesome. I once saw a doctor kind of like that - male, not flashy, but just gentle and generous - had a patient actually swing at him and miss, and still went to his office to talk to him. It was inspiring.

Gravatar Superior story.

Dresses like a dermatologist? Ya got me on that one -- what is the uniquely identifying dress of a dermatologist?

Gravatar When I grow up I want to be like Dr. Popular! She sounds amazing!!!
What a great mentor for you!

Gravatar this is a great story. this woman obviously is very gifted and very courageous. without discounting her very admirable qualities i must say this, her tactic will work well until it doesn't work and at that point all will say that the bumps and bruises or tazing endured by the patient would have been a small price to pay for having her back. i hope it never comes to that.
cheers.

Gravatar Ok - I am officially on the Dr. Popular fan wagon - she's a genius.

Gravatar Thanks for a great post. I agree with Pollyanna & Randy Pausch (of Last Lecture fame) that waiting for people to show their good sides yields amazing results.

I'm going to miss learning from & hanging out with my wonderful surgical residents -- the same ones many classmates promised would be complete a**holes.

Gravatar Is Dr. Popular Dr. Garner? I've been following your blog for a while now. I'm a year 2 at umkc. I really enjoy it. It definitely puts more of a personal touch on this crazy program.
