This might be a stupid question but is everyone calling Boof's outing yesterday "nearly perfect". I know one batter reached but it was on an E9. Isn't that still a perfect 4 innings?

A batter reaching on an error ruins a "perfect game," so that's probably why everyone put in the "nearly" disclaimer.

It makes you wonder if any pitcher has lost a perfect game because of an error.

I'm pretty sure it's happened, but they would get the nice consolation prize of having pitched a no-hitter.

There have been at least 8 such games in modern baseball history. The most recent was in 1990, when Terry Mulholland allowed no hits or walks, faced the minimum 27 batters, and still didn't have a perfect game because of an error (and subsequent double-play, allowing for the minimum 27 batters).
Thanks, wikipedia!

In 1990, Mulholland must have only been about 40 years old.

Gleeman on Deadspin? What's the point of keeping the personal blog going if you aren't going to link to stuff you have on other sites? I know some have complained about that, but I hearby complain that you don't link to articles you have written for other spots enough.
As long as you keep producing stuff here, I think you should be more free with links to yourself.

I didn't know it was going to run today, so I couldn't link to it this morning. I'm planning to do so tomorrow.

Great article on dead spin. I was amazed to find out that we have the reigning MVP, Batting Champ, and Cy Young winner. Get out!!! I was on the other hand very disappointed to find out that Liriano is not playing this year because of "Tommy Johns" surgery and Radke retired. NFW. Where do you get this info before anyone else? That was a very informative article. BTW, I also found out today that WE LANDED ON THE MOON!!! WE LANDED ON THE MOON!!!

I'm looking at the decent but unspectacular numbers and projection on Tulowitzki, and then I look back down at Ellsbury and I can't understand why Tulowitzki would be ranked so much higher. Is it for the sole reason that he's further along the minor league ladder?

Feel free to ignore me if this question has already been answered (too lazy to go through the other comment threads), but is this is a specifically non-Twins prospect list, since you already did the Twins' top prospects, or does it just so happen that the Twins haven't had any of the #50-11 best prospects in baseball?

Tulowitzki is closer to the majors and I think he'll have more power.

Twins prospects are very much eligible for these rankings.

Once again, I'm curious how we can always be ranked a top farm system, yet we've had zero prospects in the top 50-11. Seems odd to me...

I wrote that it was "among baseball's best," but that means a top-10 ranking, certainly not No. 1 or No. 2. Essentially every prospect ranking I've seen this year has just one Twins prospect in the top 50. The quality of the Twins' farm system is based far more on depth than quality at the top.
In my Twins top 40, I wrote that Garza "slots in the top half-dozen" pitching prospects, while Perkins and Slowey "can each safely be placed in the 15-25 range." However, if you'll notice, my overall top 50 doesn't include 15-25 pitching prospects, which is why you don't see Perkins and Slowey on the list.
As for hitters ... I wrote extensively about the lack of impact position players the Twins have in the minors right now. Specifically I wrote that they "have zero of baseball's top-25 hitting prospects."
The Twins have one top-10 prospect, several guys in the 51-100 range, and a bunch of guys in the 101-200 range. That makes for a good farm system, but it's a lot different than having multiple elite prospects.

Good job, Aaron! You are right on Adam Jones also. Most have him too low.

It all depends on whether he gets jail time for the Vegas incident :-)

Are those Jim Souhan's words I read? Can't be. It's signed Aaron Gleeman??? Huh?
