Less disturbingly, here is an interesting take on the newspaper biz: rather than dinosaurs threatened with extinction, they are merely former monopolists threatened with profit margins more typically associated with competitive industries.

Gravatar Aaron, I would not worry to much about this ear surgery. I have been wrestling my entire life and when I was a sophmore in highschool (now a junior in college at the "u") I got cauliflower ear. My ear would swell up and the doctors would repeatedly drain it. This happened about 4 or 5 times. Then once season was over that year I went in to see a Ear Nose and Throat specialist and they gave me the same choice. I had reconstructive surgery on my left ear. It really isnt that bad. I had to wear some cotton balls that were stiched to my ear for a week to keep it from swelling back up, but it wasn't that bad. I felt fine later that day after having surgery. I have since had surgery on my right ear too because that one also got cauliflower ear. I have not had any problems with either ear since. I think you will be just fine. Good luck with everything.

Gravatar Hopefully this will be a simple recovery. Good luck.

Gravatar Good luck with the surgery. The doctor is telling you the risks because he is morally and legally obligated to, so don't worry too much about those. We (the baseball loving reading public) can only hope that your personal blog doesn't become a "misadventures with american health care system" blog in the coming months.

Oh, and I like the new font at the top of the page over the old one (I was one of those who requested the change in the first place). All the letters at least appear to be of the same size/font, whereas before they seemed oddly aligned in my browser

Gravatar I don't care what the specialist said; I'm sticking with my "earful of spiders" theory until they find out what's actually in there.

I predict that when AG's on the operating table, they'll slice the ear open only to find the OR instantly full of eight-legged beasts with a taste for human flesh.

Gravatar Roscoe. Ah no. Please. Stop.

*shudder

Gravatar With all due respect, Aaron, the side-by-side media center thing with you and Shana Hiatt reminds me of a "Beauty and the Geek" promo.

Gravatar AG, in the meantime, might I suggest you consider doing your video reporting with your hand over your ear, a la "Laugh-In"?

Gravatar Anonymous tipster again with an update. Your guy Jason Williams is done at the Pioneer Press about March 10. He's taking some sort of editing job at MLB.com and going to graduate school.

No word on who's getting the beat, but it appears as if Kelsie Smith (fiancee of Chris Snow) is going to get one of the two openings. She's young, but did a bunch of Red Sox coverage the past couple of summers for the Boston Globe as an intern.

Gravatar Roscoe. Ah no. Please. Stop. *shudder

Adam's got earachnophobia.

Gravatar She's young but did a bunch of Red Sox the past couple of summers for the Boston Clobe as an intern.

So you're sayin' she's easy?

Gravatar Mr. Gleeman:

I liked your video piece on Twins pitching. I'm with you -- Porky Ponson and The Wrong Ortiz shouldn't be in camp.

One small point: the phrase "first and foremost" is a cliche and is redundant.

Jim H.

Gravatar Ortiz will help the Twins before the year is out. He may be a 5 ERA guy, but most teams 6th and 7th starters won't do that, and I doubt if the Twins are much different, despite some nice prospects.

Gravatar The thing I wonder about is reading how the Twns decided to go with Ortiz after getting "glowing" reviews from Matt LeCroy--who caught him ONCE--when they wre both with the Nats.
