I have the same problem as you- for some reason, google doesn't seem to recognize me. I'm also on homespun bloggers, but unlike Mama, I have no score. :-(
Oh well, we don't blog for the popularity, right? What am I saying, of course we do, and the two of us are losing this contest by google's measure!
Just take solace in the fact that I've never gotten 100 visits in one day, so you're well ahead of me.

Well, at least they cached your page, Steve. Mine isn't even important enough for that.
One factor, supposedly, is they don't do much with "new" sites until they "age" a few months.

Ugh. I'm not a SEO guy.
You might want to add keywords to your template to improve page rank. For example, insty has:
You've probably got a better handle on how to improve page rank than I do.
I'm not convinced page rank really matters and I don't worry about it. It seems like marketing hype.

I'm with Sis; I really haven't worried about Google rankings or any of that, and things have worked out OK. I've dinked with my stylesheet and my templates quite a bit, and it never hurt me (either at Typepad or at my old Blogger site). But I'd guess that as your blog "ages" and gets linked, your Google stats will change. In fact, you'll soon be returning a lot more results, I'd expect.
Here's a little bit of advice to help get the word out (disregard if you're already doing this):
1.) Ping Technorati when you post, and make sure you have a Technorati profile set up.
2.) Sign up for Truth Laid Bear's blogosphere ecosystem. http://www.truthlaidbear.com/eco...m/
ecosystem.php
These two things really helped my blog get "noticed" (well, that and lots of whining to Tim Blair, of course )

Sisyphus: Well you knew what "SEO" meant, which was more than me. Google to the rescue-> "Search Engine Optimization."
So far I've been mostly in "If you build it, they will come" mode. My SEO quest has not yet progressed to keywords, but you are probably right about that. I also have some doubts about the ultimate value of this process, but I figure it might get me one or two extra returning readers.
Validating the pages was not exactly fun, but it did help me understand why Atom was sometimes choking on a post and fix that.
I'll be glad to put my template up as a text file if you or any of the other Blogger users want a "model" of what I fixed. Some errors were from the original template itself, some came from Haloscan, and others I introduced myself.

Ryne: I have a Technorati profile, but I have not done any pinging. I'll have to check that out.
I have been trying to join the TTLB Ecosystem, but new entries have been disabled for several weeks with a message to "check back tomorrow." I keep checking, but they always see me coming.
Monica is in the TTLB, as well as Homespun. However, Steve is in Homespun (5/10), and Sisyphus is also in TTLB (and in many alliances).
I see that Monica is on Blogwise.com and it shows a page rank of 7/10. Maybe that is a factor.
The Tim Blair method sounds intriguing...

Oh geez - I don't even pay any attention to this stuff. I have no idea what a page rank is.
I do ping techorati and I also ping Blogwise when I post a new entry.

I'll add that I've been having problems with TTLB and it seems my my rank in the ecosystem is crazy. I go from a slimy mollusk to a large mammal and back to a flappy bird and then back up. I also cannot get to the chart that shows stuff and haven't been able to for awhile. Keep trying to get in though - it's a lot of fun.

Monica,
I had noticed your fluctuating status in the ecosystem, but I wasn't quite sure what level of stability was normal. I must say, it's pretty inconsiderate of N. Z. Bear to take time off to get married when the ecosystem is in trouble.
Homespun looks like a good group, so I took the plunge.
FYI some "page scores" for incoming links at your page:
Homespun 5/10
Philly Future 0/10
Blogwise 7/10
Blogorama 0/10
The article I cited warned against "link farms," saying that Google doesn't like them. I don't know exactly what they mean by that, but I'm sure it doesn't apply to blog alliances like Homespun or to the Philly Future site. Blogwise and Blogorama?

Alright - what does the page score mean? Does that mean that more people get to my blog through Homespun and Blogwise? Philly Future and Blogorama aren't doing a thing for me?
Google may not like 'link farms' - but *I* do!

The Google score is Google's overall estimate of the "importance" of a particular page. Exactly what that means is not so clear to me, and I'm not sure anyone outside of Google really knows. They keep the details of their methods and algorithms secret.
I believe the primary effect of the score is on how likely that page is to turn up near the top of a Google search on that topic. It won't have any effect on hits coming from other links (or probably even from other search engines).
I assume, without really knowing, that a site with a high score linking to you will help your own ranking.
I don't think Homespun or Philly Future (or TTLB, etc.) are in any way considered a "link farm." That would be a site that is nothing more than a table of links to other sites for the sole purpose of boosting everyone's "link count" to fool Google into thinking they are all more important than they really are. Who knows how Google decides that? The high score for Blogwise is an indication Google doesn't consider them a "link farm," at least not today. The low score for Blogarama might signal the opposite, but that's just a speculation.
If you see in your referral logs that you are getting hits from Blogarama, I'd keep them. After all, you are after hits. If not, it may not be worth it.
I certainly don't claim to be an expert about this topic.

Woo Hoo! Google finally has a cached version of the main page! Of course my "score" is still 0/10, but it's progress of a sort.

I do a tiny bit of internet marketing. I haven't tried any 'tricks' to get search engine rankings on my pathetic blog. To drive traffic to my commercial sites, I find that nothing beats paying the search engine operators. An ad in the right-hand column of Google can be cheap, and loads of people click on them.

PTG,
You are probably right about the ads. It would spoil my perfect record of spending $0 on the blog, though.
