Shhhhh! It's a dirty little secret! It's not supposed to be said!

Thank God this book was written. Anyone who was paying attention (ie:'the man on the street') already knew it to be true. I just don't think it's been very p.c. to actually name the phenomenon truthfully. It is a choice. It is something these young girls set out to do deliberately and with much (faulty reasoning and) forethought.

I think it is great that you have a sort-of sympathetic outlook on unwed parenting. I on the other hand think it is just a false sense of empowerment. I am a product of Newark,NJ and currently reside here. I went to public schools, was sexually active at an early age and I took my ass to Planned Parenthood for birth control. I found power in that choice.

Gravatar I wouldn't describe my outlook on having children out of wedlock as "sympathetic." It's hard enough for a child growing up today with two, mature, responsible parents. A child born to an immature, single mother has very little chance of a successful life.

A teenage girl chosing to become pregnant out of wedlock is making a very foolish choice. The result will have a profound impace on her life and the life of the child.

It's much better to wait, as you have done.
