Really great review, Abe. I have been hearing a lot about the controversy. Of course, both girls want to see it. The previews are gorgeous. I'm going to wait this one out though. I'd like to read the books first. We are Christians, and it would be good to know what concerns I might have in order to talk to them about it.

Here's an excellent article about the books from a Christian perspective:

I'm going to put that on the main page, too.
The armored bears are polar, not grizzly. Big and tough, though (mostly non-evil).
So where are you not-in-Philly then?

We moved out of the 'hood and out to Lancaster County. Troll, my husband, still works in Philly, though. The housing market is crazy right now, so we sold the rowhouse and we are renting a farmhouse in the middle of an 85 acre field of corn. It's crazy, man. Crazy, I tell ya. lol.
If he can deal with the commute, then we will buy out here.
Thanks for the link to the review. I'm going to read it right now.
Hope that all is well for you and your family, Abe!

Great review, Abe. Thanks so much. When I first heard about this controversy it made me think of Harry Potter all over again. We love the Harry Potter books and movies, and I completely disagree with some Christian's objections to it. I like this guy's approach and agree with him.

I also live in Lancaster County, Monica, but Nebraska instead of PA. There are some rural parts, but it's mostly Lincoln. Lincoln is a nice size for a city, not too big.
I visited Gilbertsville, PA, a few years ago to see a customer/collaborator for our company. Pretty country around Philly.

It appears that based on the first week's take the movie is a bust and will be lucky to recoup its cost. If a sequel is made obviously factors other than profit are the main concern in Hollywood. Given the recent spate of bombs from lala land I'd say this is a good bet.
But even Hollywood can't afford too many money losers.

I know where Gilbertsville is! It is so beautiful out here - away from Philthadelphia, as they call it. I'm loving it and not missing a thing - except for a couple of friends. It is easy enough to keep in touch though. We are not TOO terribly far away.
We aren't totally in the sticks. We are on the outskirts of a fairly decent sized town - so everything we need is right here.
If I haven't wished you and your family a Merry Christmas yet, I do so now, Abe!

Thomas,
Hollywood is apparently very resistant to making movies with the "wrong" message, where "wrong" has the opposite meaning that you and I would use. They've made flop after flop in the anti-war/anti-American themes, but there's always room for one more...

Any movie that annoys Mohammedan fanatics (or any kind of fanatics) is OK by me. Merry Christmas.
