dude,
they may not be hypocrites on this one, gmayel junior nor senior aren't very loved and revered,
had it not been for opportunism, we mightve seen less hypocritical and emotional driven feel good love on the scene

Aoun has to call Lebanese to attend this mass. While Aoun is loosing credibility and supporters by the hour, he must make such a statement. His popularity has shrunk among the Christian arena.

I do not think you should be surprised by the non-action of the sheikh and the mouthpiece of his evil machine. They do not stand for Lebanon.

Well guys, I have to admit that Antoine Abou Zahra commented with the wrong message last night, during Ali Hamadeh's talk show, when he heard about FPM deciding to take to the streets along with Mar. 14 supporters.
Indeed it's crucial to unite the Christians and Abou Zahra should have encouraged Michel Aoun and urged him to take further steps to bring him closer to the sovereign movement in our country.

Gemayel was a Maronite, and Mustapha is a Sunni. I, for one, appreciate the noticeable absense of sectarianism from the blog host.

Well on nbn last night aoun said he wasn't welcome to the jemayel house, but he still considers himself as a friend of the family wich he named one by one.. Amine jmayel replied when asked on al arabiya that his house like always is open to everybody and that he did not tell anyone that he is not welcome and that if someone said that,it means that person's concience is not clear and that person is maybe feeling guilty, jmayel said, he added: yalli fi tahet batou msalleh bten3arou.

Is aoun participating to say later aktariyeh wahmiyeh and that he added the number of people??
I really wish aoun comes back to his roots and realise it's his natural place to be.Not with syria. If that's true then welcome back!

Nano of course Amin did not say anyone is unwelcome, Aoun said he will give his condolences later in private not because Amin refused to see him but because Kataeb supporters were burning Aoun pictures in the street and calling him a killer in front of the hospital.
I think it is only fair of him to give condolences in private after such acts and not cause more anger at least with the supporters.

dont take it the wrong way, but you may be lightyears away from detecting sectarianism/tribalism in its subtlest forms in lebanon and for lebanese,
we're simply conditioned to it and engrained to it, im yet to meet one lebanese person whose fully transcended the sectarian bug (starting from myself)
so things like: he's sunni so he's not behaving sectarian cuz gmayel is maronite, doesn't fly,
how bout this: his tribe is affiliated with other segments of another tribe that are trying to find leverage on the scene,
goodluck Michael, i know we keep peaking your curiousity,
Mousse, your partisanship is growing at the expense of your bridges with the moderates and teh independents

bodhi,
I was going to tutor Mr. Totten like you did so eloquently but reading his blog I discovered that the presence of Michael Totten on the Lebanese blogosphere is not innocent. He is one of those who are fanning the flames but in a more subtle way. It is as if lebanese needed more people from the outside to fan the flames...

Bullshit. The last thing I want to see in Lebanon is more war, either against Israel, Hezbollah, or anyone else. My opinions on these questions have been absolutely consistent.
I opposed Israel's invasion of Lebanon, and I am completely appalled at the possibility of civil war.

Sofia, i wouldn't put michaels contributions as ominous or evil, not at all, i would simply put them in the Western Paradigm of lebanon and the middleeast with added nuances than your average American. We all like quickfixes, and thats not a good thing,
for instance, we think that an international tribunal will solve our problems (or some do) bullshit. What solves our problems is building a cohesion to a state and a citizenship and that isnt happening in lebanon and not one party is actively or effectively working to do this, wether HA's camp or march 14th, theyre both contributing to our problems
In any case, i dont think anyof us has the answers, not totten, not you, not me, not HA, FM, FPM and aoun, or anyone else, we find the answer however when we look for it together
so far, that isnt happening. and we work to make the opposite, the harder we PUSH our opinion, the harder others do the same and this is where Mousse is doing his mistake
Totten, who am i to ask you to Read Peter Senge's fifth discipline in systems thinking, i think it'll help all of us to develop a systems approach to seeing lebanon (or any problem for that matter) and shift our way of thinking accordingly,

bodhi,
We must aknowledge that the most common sectarianism in lebanon is the sectarianism of the rich against the poor. In lebanon if you have no money you are nothing. This what unites some like the owner of this blog who is a sunni with some Christians

Sophia,
While I do accept that social class influences your world view, I am puzzled by the one-sidedness of your argument. What about the sectarianism of the poor against the rich?
The World has long moved beyond demagoguery, and nothing has lifted more poor people out of poverty than capitalism.

Sophia,
The article I linked to is a bit lengthy, so i'll make it easier for you by pasting the relevant part of it:
On one hand, you have wealthy traders (Sunnis) allying with generally wealthy land-owning Christians and Druze. They want pro-market policies, flexible labor laws and pro-business policies. They want a good relationship with the outside world because it represents opportunity, a new market. Those people are generally well educated and soft-spoken. Perhaps the most symbolic outcome of AUB’s elections is the fact that the conservative alliance won 14 out of 14 seats in the Business school
On the other hand, you have soldiers, farmers, and poor laborers who want totally different things: they want government hand-outs (like diesel) and labor protection laws. They are generally skeptical of business, they speak more of corruption and less of markets. They look to the outside world as a threat: cheaper labor and cheaper agricultural produce that will threaten their jobs/crops. Those people are noisy and aggressive because their whole livelihood is at steak. Remember, Aounists always wanted to protect the Lebanese farmer (although the reason given at the time was to counter Syrian produce). This also explains the popularity of the Aounists in places like Akkar and Bequaa.

Shut up Mustapha!. All yiu do is instigate sectarian strife as your Saudi masters have taught. Most people in Tripoli are not like you. As if Nasrallah, respected by sunnis and shiies is going to phoe and consoce the father of this war ciminal who is part of a party founded soley on anti-muslim hate!!!!! Got that in your small head shithead
Fu!# this economic commitee who submits to the will of the corrupt and pro-Israel Fart 14 traitors: if these people love Lebanon so much why did they not attend the funerals for the over 1500 REAL martyrs who tsha'adoo for Lebanon in the last war instead of attendLook at these Fart 14 forces......again they blame Syria, HA and March 8 for theor own doings!!!
Everbody knows that no one had more to benefiy from the death of this right-wing war criminal (like his uncle who started the civil war) that the Fart 14 forces, who were shitting their pants that the angry, angry (and just plain violent when they want to be) shiites were planning to overthrow the traitor governement of Sinoira fake sunni (who again like Saad is a fake sunni and goes rushing to USA, UN, and probably Israel to help 'investigtae; this murder: pathetic slaves.)
Now of course the minority who support Fart 14 will have new Israeli-installed vigour to attend 'protets' and to topple Lahoud (isn't this what they promised to do when Hariri died: talk about a lack of progess, againg Fart 14 prove themselves to be full of shit talk and no action!)
And oh yes.....to all your Gemyaelist stooges who think the sunnis now support you, I called my autie in Tripoli last night and asked to tell me frankly what is the mood in the city. Her reply said it all: sure the shops were closed, but no-one could give a dam about a man and his party that was founded on anti-muslim (especially sunni) hate and everybpdy was happy for the day off
So lets hope more pro-Israeli traiotrs die.
-Int. Tribunal for Martyr R. Karami!
-Let us mourn for REAL martyrs who died in Tripoli and Jnoub fighting the occupation
-Deport the khwana Fart 14 who causing all this choas!!!!!!!!!!!ing one for a hated war criminal like his father and uncle??? Stupid right-wing maronites and fake sunnis and bribe-loving druze

Your "angry comment" can be summarized as follows:
"Mustapha! Stop flaming sectarian tension, the truth is, Sunnis and Christians actually hate each other!!"
