Sorry amira,
I saw this and I couldn't but post it.
but then again, perhaps the slogan "if you want peace, prepare for war" is the main driving force in lebanon today.

For the foreign medias, lebanon is already de facto in a civil war period.
And here we still have some stupid politicians adding more oil on the fire.
We need on contrary calm for the dialogue to resume.
Everyone that is calling for blood should be put aside

Mustapha,
I have noticed that too, and it is very sad.
Martyr Hariri, Allah yer7amo, was great because he was wise and he knew how to calm things down. He did not add fuel to the fire. He had things under control. I believe that is a big part why he was assassinated. Now we have people - do not get offended please- who do not have a broader view of things, and who are using sectarian feelings, playing on instincts after assassinations (NOT a clear political agenda) to stay in power. This is very serious indeed.
I am very sad that things got to a point where someone like Salim Hoss (regardless of whether I agree with his politics or not) gets humiliated in the streets, based on what??? the man has a different opinion?
and I am indeed very terrified by the Shia/Sunni talk..This has never been something to think about in Lebanon, and now it is being ACTIVELY worked on.
again I say, it is the responsibility of EACH one of us to calm things down.
I hope that u r right Mustapha in ur theory prepare for war if u want peace, but use of such words by political leaders will only lead to more trouble.
Thanks for your continuous reporting.

"if you want peace, prepare for war"
The original Roman:
"Si vis pacem, para bellum"
Sun Tsu expounds upon this:
"The best victory is when the opponent surrenders of its own accord before there are any actual hostilities...It is best to win without fighting."
Thomas Jefferson also comments:
"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."
what does all this mean with regard to Lebanon?
One doesn't merit freedom unless one is willing to die defending it, by force of arms if necessary.
Ben Franklin puts it more succinctly:
"Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

Dan what you are saying is true. except now in Lebanon, if there will be more blood spilled it is NOT for a good cause, and it will be only a sectarian strife that will make us ALL lose---> i.e. this will be the end of Lebanon. there are times where arms are necessary, but this would be a fight for nothing.

I saw the quote in Slackman's article. The article was good. Eido's quote was expected, especially from someone like him.

Not being Lebanese I'm not privy to the word on the street. From an outside perspective it seems you have two sides (yes I know it is more complex than that but I think that's what the leaders of the sects want you to think). From what I can gleam there is the March 14th forces, which are anti-Syria and the others, which are backed by Syria and thus Iran. The March 14 forces and their allies must take to the streets like they did to oust Syrian occupation. Until they are ready to do so, Hezbollah and their Syrian allies will continue to use terror and play the resistance card to get their way. Doesn't anyone remember Nasrallah threatening any who opposed him or critisized his organazation? Seems like he is making his threats reality.
Such a man cannot be reasoned with. Just ask Nevelle Chamberlain.

Can someone tell me what do you expect people to say when they are faced with the thugs of Hezbollah... What? Sit down and ...what? If someone wants to take you, your life and your country hostage, YOU HAVE TO DEFEND YOURSELF. Otherwise give it away now and stop all these killings....

eido had his share during war in tareeq eljdeeedeh-abou shekir. He had a "nickname" / (ism harakeh) as well which i can't remember at the moment. He was a member of the morabetoon sunni militia, and partcipated in some military operations. Not to mention his dirty history in courts.

Well we deserve what we get. As we long as we define ourselves as Sunni, Shia, Druze, Marouni, etc...we choose to live in the dark ages. The Arabs and Lebanese in general are about 500 years behind mentally from the west. We can change that by keeping religion between us and God (whatever you want to call him/her/it) and act like civilized humans. Till then, we're bunch of uneducated (not university) religious clans. Sad, but true! this is also true for the rest of the ME.

I read on tayyar.org, that accorsing to ALmanar and NTV, some LF members were arrested by the Lebanese Army while they were training on some weapons. Given all the "one sided" media that reported this incident, I hope that the whole story is not true. But are we seeing a trend here? Hope we learned our lesson from the first civil war.
special note to Batal Agha, if we follow your reasonnig we will definitely end up with a civil war where NOBODY is a winner.

This is what "Eidiot" said back in Jan 2006, after some Palestinians had fired at Lebanese municipal employees in Naameh. (Eido Don't Speak for Me)
Eido: "Did the shooting take place on the borders of Palestine or near the walls of Jerusalem? Had the shots been fired at Lebanese citizens been helpful to the cause, we are ready to forgive"
Maybe someone can tell him now that giving the gvmnt to Hezbo is good for Palestine.
The level of rethoric (and absence thereof) is pathetic.
Beyond that, of course one should be ready for war but my beef with Seniora and March 14 is there was million things to say and do to assert the state and split Hezbo/Berri/Aoun etc before even mentioning the prospect of civil war.
They play cowardly inept defense for 2 years and the first aggressive thing they say is irresponsible. Eidiots.

The only hope that Lebanese people have for a free and civil society is if the US and or Israel forces Iran (Syria) to stop it's aggression upon Lebanon. Hezbollah is too strong and will force it's will upon the country. All the marches and cheering for the Cedar Revolution was inspiring. It is now time to face reality. The serpents are now entrenched and there is little hope for a positive outcome for the Lebanese.

I like the "Eidiot" nick.......as for his dirty history in court.......as a lawyer in the tripoli, where he was the General Prosecutor........i can tell you stories about the brines that he used to take, how manny innocents did he destroy the lives of,and how he was the right hand of the main syrian intelligence comandant in the north Khalloof.............
Now that crook is talking about blood,he needs to fulfill his cv as an evil crook..............

Walla ya mustapha it seems the Tayyar people are reading your blog.
They have put this post in their "akher khabriyyé section" in their website.
I don't think they even bothered to look at the original article because it seems they immediately translated it from here and removed the brackets from around Hezbollah.

Hani
the article was in New York times, and here in the states an italian, a jewish american, and a couple americans knocked on my office door yesterday morning after reading the article in NYT all checking to make sure that my family is ok in Lebanon. Their question was : so civil war has started in LEB? u can imagine my shock as I had not read news for 3 hours, and I thought some other big event happened. I read it, and it is just so shameful.
Just few months ago I was telling everybody how proud I was to be Lebanese, and how proud I am that we did not break during the July war, and how strong our spirit is. Now,I do not even know what to say. we are ALL a bunch of sectarian idiots, who can be moved by stupid instincts, and agree to fight like animals..and for WHAT??? Is there any tribunal, power, goverment, presidency, other country or ANYTHING worth killing another lebanese for????? Can anyone of you imagine holding a gun aginst his friends because they have a different political view????
In every country in this forsaken world there are opposing parties. IF you listen to Fox news here talking about the democrats, you would be shocked by how they describe them and how opposed to each other- on certain issues- they are, but they still are ALL american and they do not fight. They think about the state benefit FIRST. It is ok to have different views about what is best for Lebanon, but we should have ZERO tolerance for ANY leader who promotes sectarian feelings and can see civil war as a solution.

Ya Abu Nur ya khayye, I don't want a civil war. I hate a civil war. But, and this is a very bug BUT, when you know that your "other" brothers are preparing (no they are ready) for the civil war, what choice do you have? Get ready...

What stupid comment by a stupid amatuer polician! I wonder how much this man, whose is famous for taking bribes while in Tripoli (any of the locals can tell you that) was paid by Bolton or Saad Hariri to say this?????
And in all honestly, I live in little Tripoli, and everybody here knows that no-one in Lebanon can Saad little kids take on those violent HA dudes. No way.
And Mustapha, I am disappointed that you have oince again used your informative (and sometimes plain biased) blog to promote sectarian agenda's. No need for this stuff here man.
You reply?
