Well done Mustapha,
Quote: "thousands and thousands of people will be chanting for us to leave,"
I like your honesty finally. You have come out of the 14th Feb closet. It's great your not pretending to be neutral anymore. No-one believed you anyway.

mustapha -- i'd agree, but the problem is when they get tired and go home, they'll just come back the next day.
and as much as i support the government, i also support all the business owners and employees who will be destroyed by the protests if they drag on. i can't believe march 8 is willing to sacrifice these people (well, i guess i CAN believe it... but they should be ashamed)! ugh.

You know Mustapha, I am very dissapointed in your entry (as in others lately). I am so sorry that you have fallen into the hatred "us" versus "them" game. It's too bad. It's also very sad for our country, because I know that you are far from being the only one.

"At the end of the day, they'll get tired, they'll get bored and they'll slowly wither away and go back to their houses, universities and shops."
I hope you're right. But judging from your history, that's not how things work in your neck of the woods.

Nice post, Mustapha. I couldnt agree more. Our power is to just let them show the world the Neanderthals that they are. I believe in modernity not the dark ages.

I always try to be "objective" and "balanced", but i never claimed I was "neutral".
I have my convictions and its obvious from my writings what I believe is wrong and what I believe is right.

the situation is so Déjà vu:
a government extremely unpopular with about half the populous; opposition takes to the streets, camp out downtown till the government is under stress to resign or compromise. feels so 2005.
if the goverment is going to maintain the hardline stance of representing only its political constituency (a fraction of lebanon), its legitimacy will slowly go down down down.

Very well said Mustapha,
We must go on with our lives as if they are not demonstrating, as if nothing happened.
Ibn Bint Jbeil,
This is not a Syrian appointed prime minister, this is a Lebanese democratically elected PM respected by supported by the whole world and the government is as popular as its opposants are, if not more.

Bravo! I couldn't have said it better (seriously hehe). Anyway yes, I have the Lebanese Flag hung on the balcony. I am with the government, and I know today is only another demonstration. Let them enjoy it.

If anyone can post pictures of the Lebanese flags in Tripoli kindly send them to as many blogspots as you can; some people like to see things to believe it.
Moreover, things are starting to fall out of control in Jounieh; Apparently some guys in Orange shirts have burned a few tyres and the FPM just announced they have nothing to do with it; any pictures?
Everyone take pictures now.

To Ado:
Sanyoura will never be like Lahoud . Lahoud was forced into the presidency Sanyoura is democratically elected. All international dignitaries consider him the legitimate representative of Lebanese executive power. Sanyoura is a hero , hope doesn't cave in to the threats of this Iranian Cleric.

Well, Lets see,
There are going to be alot of unemployed palestinians there, they dont need to go back to jobs, so as long as they are fed, they'd be happy to stay there...
The Syrians may have families they need to go back for, so they wont be able to stay for long.
The Shia from the south and dahiya had their crops/businesses destroyed, so as long as they are fed, they can stay for long...
The Aounist - they are a wildcard, who knows how long they stay, but, given that the protests will probably get more and more "uncivil" as time goes by, I think they wont stay for that long...
In my humble opinion, it will probably start big, go down to one quarter it's original size in a few days, then fizzle down over a week or so...
how long can the demo's go for |

Hezbollah is Pro-Syrian and armed with Iranian ordinance, so what is Lebanese about that? In fact, when orange waves the Lebanon flag one wonders how many are foolish enough to believe it. Take pictures of those gathered in the demonstration...there they are!
