um, mustapha, i don't think they came to have "fun." just as they did not fight israel "bil batata-l-mi2liyieh."

you see, we used to sing this song in the late seventies, when the "mouqawama" referred to the corrupt and ineffectual palestinian "militant" istablishment:

"fida2iyeh, fida2iyeh
thawra thawra sha3biyeh
badna n7arib israeel
bil batata-l-mi2liyeh"

that corrupt and ineffectual palestinian establishment in the 70's had tons more weapons than anyone else in lebanon ever had before them or after. ali did not fight bil batat-l-mi2liyeh, nor with the actual weapons he used, but with uncomparable determination and commitment. watch and see.

you have a tie and a moustache. i can't trust u.

you're the typical Lebanese..whose history and "independance" are going to die tonight.

Gravatar Mustapha,

Very nicely written. I am always impressed

Dalal

Gravatar mustapha,

why are you only directing this to "ali"s?

- l.

Gravatar Agreed.
Peaceful demonstration are an inalienable democratic right.

On the other hand election have consequences and in a democracy the losers of election have to live with those consequences. Not happy? Wait until next time and YOU win the parliament. In the meantime demonstrate all you want but you should also denounce the REAL foreign meddling in Lebanon: the Syrian backed assassinations.

Gravatar I am embarrased by Aoun
Shame on you. Shame on me.

Gravatar Ibn Bint Jbeil may be right,

These people are determined. I don't think for one second, if the roles were reversed, that Hezbo would have left Kherie Lahoud off the hook back when.

Good piece Steve, but Seniora and his gvmnt are no match. Seniora should have lain down condition for leaving other than his "confidence vote".

He should have requested Lahoud's departure for a resignation, and/or a constitutional convention. The latter makes sense: the institutions are broken and it is not 1/3 + 1 that's going to change things.

Instead, as usual Seniora looks like a sitting duck with no position and nothing to offer other than "I am staying". If he manages to stay, he will have to cave on something and will again weaken further.

Gravatar sure, the people will get bored and leave..

but take a good , long look..

and bear in mind that this LARGE part of the population , isnt even allowed a third...

its not right, and without some compromise, the country will stay in neutral

Gravatar Well Said Mustapha.....
And Mr. or Mrs Anonymous; Wake up and smell the butter… You said:” bear in mind that this LARGE part of the population, isn’t even allowed a third...” In the real world dear anonymous (Syrian), it does not work this way. The party that wins the election will form the government. And the party, who looses in the election, will be the opposition. So this imaginary rule that you are talking about does not exist.

So, you want another government. How, in your small Syrian mind, are you planning to get the confidence from the MPs? Did you forget who is the majority in our parliament? Or, your Syrian bosses did not yet tell you about the next set of instructions.

Gravatar Anonymous,
this is democracy my dear.
They have more than a third in the parliament, but in the government, majority rules, otherwise it should not be held responsible for what happens in the country. Despite the fact that, as stated several times earlier, there was no one decision made by the government that was not taken unanimously.
Peace,
A.T.

Gravatar Abu Takla:
"it should not be held responsible for what happens in the country."
this is exactly what is hapening the people are holding the government responsible. Responsible for what? Just a hint:
- The flip flop: allying with HA during election then abondoning him.
- No economic strategy other than more debts.
- No fight for corruption (actually it increased)
- No security protection even to its own MP (like Gebran Tueni's assasination) and its ministers (like Pierre Gemayel's assasination.
- Ignoring big political parties like HA and the FPM (the word ignoring comes from Ignorance)
- No functional supreme court (even after they appointed the members pro March14, still el majliss el distoury is not functional)
- No clear foreign policy: one day they want to go to Syria, one day they don't. if Iran is an evil state, why do we still have their embassador in our country? (flip flop effect again)
- no clear existential vision for Lebanon: I have not heard Samir Geagea and Jumblatt denying confederalism? what are their political vision for the country?

- reconstruction of bridges?????? or punishment of people (that is the most shameful I have ever seen)

The list can be longer.... if you beleive in holding a governemnt responsible, that is what these demos are about, as for the excuse Syria-Iran plot: they used to cover corruption with the Syrian occupation, the Syrians are gone, but corruption is still here... anything you want to do with the country, if not the March14 way, becomes "PRO-Syria". Remember when it used to be "PRO-ISrael" everything we did against the Syrians, it is the same lame excuse:Khlisna baka.
To Mustapha: I am not sure who Ali is, but if I am thinking what you are meaning, you can safely address it to Joseph, Walid and Mustapha if you want.

Gravatar The longer any businesses in Beirut are closed the more damage to the economy.

You can also be sure that the demonstrators will carry the Hezbollah flag, not the Lebanese flag, when they return home. And, if they only wanted to be a greater part of Lebanese government then surrendering their illegal weapons would be far more impressive than an additional demonstration of obstinance.

Gravatar To Mustapha.........
You ought to run for sunni mufti........your sunni status so pops to the eye........3eib to adress this message to Ali......it's like those corrupt politicians and sunni religious, like Geousou my ass that are trying to start a sunni/shiia conflict in lebanon....
I am a sunni,and i am Ali,Charbel,Georges,Omar..........
I am dissapointed in you Mustapha......i knew you as the exemple of the modern lebanese guy, whos views of a modern non religious, non corrupt lebanon i used to admire and hold dear.......
Now you're just another fanatic lebanese, living abroad, blinded by the biased media, and surounded by traditional sunni entourage that s raised on refusing the other religion...............
hope you see clearer.........

Gravatar Ado, modern my foot.

Abu Takla,
This is NOT A DEMOCRACY. This is a TAWA2IF-OCRACY! if it was a democracy, it would be one peson = one vote.

Gravatar comon ppl!
Mostapha, I really appreciate what u're trying to say and make point of.
It's beautiful what u hold inside.
Keep like that.

Gravatar good, objective post mustafa. hezbollah should enjoy this little ride, because it wont last. but the big turn out was not all lebanese, some syrians came across the border and participated and lets not forget the syrians that already reside in lebanon.

fact: hezbollah called for war and dragged a whole country into a war
fact: hezbollah, even though nasrallah said he will rebuild, has not shown any initiative, although he passed out money for rent.
fact: many of the protesters went into predominately sunni areas trying to start problems (hence the chance of sunni/shia conflict)
fact: ever since the DEMOCRATICALLY elected govt took office, nasrallah and berri has not made any effort to work with the govt to move the country forward and then started a war.
fact: berri and aoun are as corrupt as those that are accused, if not more so and aoun has nerve to talk about others, yet forgets his glory days.

the list could be longer. the bottom line, hezbollah is nothing less than a big whining cry baby and want to push everybody around. they want veto power, and the want one third plus one...(laughable). they have some nerve. the govt should be holding hez accountable and not the other way around. and finally, frenjeih....what a statesman (sarcasm).
siniora is not going anywhere, and nasrallah better learn to live with it. he can move to damascus if he doesn't like it.

Gravatar Check the latest FPM Propaganda. Freud was right, the victim becomes the whipper/criminal. They use the same tactics of their Ex oppressors-now Friends from Syria. All sects are well represented except for the Christians whose rights have and will always be disinfringed as long as there are people like Michel Aoun who cause partisanship in our community. Michel Aoun You do not represent Christians so dont claim that you now represent the Sunnites.General Aoun You are a Shiite Maronite even worse the Suleman Frenjieh.
According to Tayyar.org:

Gravatar "I must say, I'm impressed."
Well when you end up believing your own groups' propaganda
- That the oppositions has no popular support
- That they they are going to cause trouble and break the law.
- That they are not Lebanese.

Of course you'll be impressed when you see otherwise.

I for one would have been surprised if the opposite happened.

Next time you'll be impressed when Aoun's block votes in favor of the international tribunal !!!

Gravatar Mustapha -

I don't get it?

1) Sure there is sectarian tension and hatred in Lebanon. So big deal a Christian minister might have laughed at Hezbollah?

2) Senoira was elected by a majority. Lahoud was installed by Syria? So why should Hezbollah get to demand this cabinet resign or even get any concessions via force or protest.... win the next election?
What is there to talk about?

3) Hezbollah is funded and armed by foreign entities and picked a war with another state that hurt all of Lebanon... yet the fact a Christian minister might have laughed at Hezbollah is of more signifigance and warrants "concessions"?

What am I missing here? Nasrallah is a power hungry thug that wants to prevent the UN inquiry into the murder of a Lebanese gov't official via Syria... EVERYONE KNOWS THIS?

What the F am I missing here? Please let me know?

Mike

Gravatar Please further explain Aoun to me?

I don't get it. Is he simply a power hungry weasel? What is the deal with the guy?

Mike

Gravatar George,
what's wrong with being a shiite maronite? is it worse than being a maronite druzite fagite?
natfit mama....

Gravatar To Mom :
He is a Lebanese Christian , we should be united against a muslim lunatic like nasrallah not become one of his sheep. Just like Joyce Gmayyel said and i am paraphrasing here this is the guy who is dividing my community for his personal delusions. He should be ashamed.

Gravatar to Bukeye ,

Your ridicules comment of :" the big turn out was not all lebanese, some syrians came across the border and participated " , reminds me of some stupid Zionist on another blog commenting On Iraq's election `and saying that "some Shiaa Iranian went over the border into Iraq and voted for Shiaa party "!!
