Gravatar Splitting the Christians is right Mustapha. The Syrians are heavily pursuing that strategy (with Aoun particularly) because they know that it is one that can pay off.

They know it because no matter what, there are points agreement between the Syrians and the Christian camp. Witness the Patriarch's comments last week against Ch. 7, they were a reference to the fact that the Christians are worried that they will be left out of any deal that seeks to ease tensions between Sunnis and Shiites. To that end, the Patriarch is seeking to keep the International Tribunal in Lebanon where his Christians will continue to have greater influence on it...just like the Syrians are trying to keep it in Lebanon.

Anyway...I'm trying to find the time to write about this in my Ides of March series (hehe the title is overstretched I know :P)...I figure the subtitle for that peice will be Patriarch Games...:S

Gravatar "Finally, Aoun's FPM is still not totally convinced. Ibrahim Kenaan wants to see the evidence declassified as soon as possible, implying that the movement doesn't trust the Lebanese government."

I wouldn't put it that way Mustapha, that's a bit harsh. His request is reasonable. Let's hear the "official" version before we comment on rumors and speculations. Let's see what he says when that happens, and then comment.

Gravatar dude, can you get more official than the Lebanese interior minister?

Gravatar "cheekily slipped"? It has been reported in the past and from different sources that Fateh El Islam is closely connected to extremist Sunni groups such as al-qaeda. You act like that is not even in the universe of possibilities. It is really comical how fast you have decided that the Syrian government is behind this, but judging from the quality of your standard "objective political analysis" (LOL), I really don't know why I am surprised.

Gravatar let me get this straight: you would rather listen to a tune of "syrian based terrorist network" then what the security sources actually said? the only conclusion one can have from what happened is that it may have been syria, or it may not have been.

i checked your banner to see if it would say "Parody", in which case your post would have made sense, but it didn't. you should stop saying that you want the "Truth", but that you will only accept the "truth as long as you think it makes sense."

good luck mate.

Gravatar i never cease to be amazed at the oppostion. the opposition has little credibility. wasn't them that hinted before that saad had a hand in his father's killing? wasn't it them that claimed they had pictures of a sniper, when in fact they were doctored? wasn't it them that also doctored photos of the july war that appeared in international newspapers? wasn't it them that claimed that a worker (difa3 al madani) was a sniper in the tareek jdeede?
it is yet another pathetic attempt to do syria's dirty work to deny all of their wrongdoing. im not surprised at nazirallah and his thugs, but for aoun to consistently follow that herd is rediculous considering he fought them and pressured the us while he was in exile to have the syrian accountability act. kenaan wants to make himself look important, i guess beating up on guests at restaruants is not enough. the isf did a great job and they should be commended. the problem with the opposition is your damned if you do and your damned if you don't. prior, they kept claiming that the govt was doing nothing to secure lebanon and find out anything, now that they are resolving this issue, they are twisting the facts. pathetic.

Gravatar foreign press in the US is blaming al qaida
the AFP stating a ministry talking under cover is stating that this group was as well belonging to al qaida

the question would be why is there an official version and an unofficial version and whose that ministry talking under cover.
