Gravatar Congratulationson the new job! These types of shifts make sense to me...both ends are pretty important. We do similar work in my unit for the BBC so look forward to comparing notes!

Gravatar Congrats, Andy!
This sounds like a very exciting opportunity. Best of luck!
DC is also my home-town.

Gravatar the specs sounds really good. congrats!

Gravatar Andy, super congrats! It reaffirms my faith in NPR as an organization that they have the smarts to hire you. Have a great ride! - Mark

Gravatar Congratulations! this is such great news! this sounds like one of those "perfect fit" type jobs...and the weather's quite nice down that way. nothing like having a steady paycheck, benefits and a fun job to boot!

Gravatar Congrats on your new job Andy and welcome to the world of online communities.

Gravatar New Dad, new job. I've been watching you at the vanguard and can't wait to see what you do with NPR. Congrats Andy!

Gravatar Rock the NPR Andy!

Gravatar What a great fit! Cool guy, cool gig, cool organization. Congratulations.

Gravatar Congratulations! Exciting news. I'm glad to know NPR is interested in this area.

One suggestion for getting people more involved with online activities... tell them where to go! It seems like every NPR story ends with "to find out more/participate/submit your comment/whatever, visit npr.org." Well that's great. But often when I go there, I can't find the link to the specific thing I'm interested in.

When I'm driving and hear the info, I can't stop to take notes. That means I'm trying to remember enough specific info for a web search on the NPR site, while still trying to listen to the next really engaging story.

It takes about 10 mintues for me to give up on ever being able to find the link from the story that motivated my interest. Sometimes I try to find it when I get to my destination, but more often than not, I can't. But I know I could remember "npr.org/someword."

Anyway, congrats again and best of luck in your new position. I'll be watching here & listening for your influence on my radio.

Gravatar I'm so glad to hear this, it makes my day. Not only because it sounds like a fun fit and good move for you, but because it represents another step forward by a media company with some soul left. NPR has done a terrific thing by bringing you on board, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what you discover can come together for people whose voices are often left out of the conversation. Congratulations!

Gravatar Congrats! I LOVE NPR!!

Gravatar Andy,

Congrats on the new job, sounds like a good fit! Also, great that you're moving to the DC area!

Gravatar congrats,dude

Gravatar Wow, that is super exciting news. Kudos to NPR for having the smarts to hire you. From some conversations I've had with NPR folks at Beyond Broadcast, I think they need people like you around to clue them in to the potential for netcentric, online engagement and content provision.

Gravatar Dear Andy
My name is rob paterson and I have been working with NPR for the last 10 months on what to do in the new world.

I am thrilled to hear about your appointment and look forward to chatting
best wishes Rob

Gravatar Great! See you in DC!

Gravatar Looking forward to working with you, Andy.

Gravatar Welcome to DC

Gravatar Congrats on the job! Sounds exciting.

"When I'm driving and hear the info, I can't stop to take notes. That means I'm trying to remember enough specific info for a web search on the NPR site, while still trying to listen to the next really engaging story." I have this problem too whenever I'm listening to a NPR podcast during my dreadful commute.

Gravatar I am glad to see that NPR will be spending some time and money on Web 2.0. Can I make a suggestion? I would love customizable RSS feeds on searches. Please! It would make my job as a subject librarian easier and I could incorporate more NPR sources into things for my users.

Good Luck at your new job! I have always thought it would be exciting to work for NPR.

Gravatar So glad you decided to go with the NPR job, Andy. I think it was the right move. Nothing more fun that innovation, right?!? Rock on!

Good luck. Give Kayleigh a kiss for me.

Hey is Silver Spring, MD cool? I wanna stop by for a visit on my way...

Gravatar Congrats on the new job.

For about a day, NPR's "Song of the Day" took a blog format. It had a bug or two, so I think they (Stephen Thompson? one of the other editors?) took it down. However, I really thought that making SotD a BLOG with its OWN RSS feed would be a great way to make the feature more popular. Right now SotD stories get distributed via NPR's "Pop Music" feed, which is nice, but it would really be nice just to focus on the ". . . of the day" pieces (perhaps add them to Google personalized under "Word of the Day" or "How to of the day"). Additionally, without the blog format, there's no way to link to the generic SotD. You can only link to individual day pages. Anyway, I think you get the point. It's exciting to hear that NPR's pulling in people like you. I look forward to seeing the results.

Gravatar All the best, Andy!

Gravatar Your directions have always inspired me from freshman year onward, and here we are many many many years later and still at it again. As you know, I also accepted a position in a larger media organization and hope that we may collaborate and exchange info in ways to really inspire engagement on a civic level.

Oh what fun!

Gravatar Better late than never from me to add to this list of congratulations Andy. Sounds like an absolutely fantastic job and opportunity. All the best with it, and I look forward to keeping an eye on your progress!

Gravatar Andy,

Welcome back to DC! Give a shout if you'd like to brainstorm on Web 2.0 technologies one afternoon before it gets too cold to enjoy outdoor beer gardens.

Gravatar Congrats Andy! Enjoy your new job and city!
