I can't wait until the Boar's Head lobby gets on this one.

Do they still even make Armor hot dogs? Haven't seen them in a long time, but that may be geographical.

I am a big fan of healthy food for kids but how about trying to get recess back first. With an appropriate recess period and gym classes, not only would obesity rates go down but the need for ADHD medications would drop dramatically too. The "No Child Left Behind Act" has "forced" schools to keep kids in the classroom more and more. Kids need time to blow off steam. The lack of recess and physical education in public schools needs to be addressed before a discussion about hot dogs.

mbr- I agree with recess, but in my school, all gym class ever did was embarrass the kids who weren't athletic or were too shy to participate.

My two cents? I think there is too much fear among parents to let their kids just run outside and play, or even walk to school. Instead, kids have organized playdates where they sit inside, and are forbidden from doing anything physical. When I was growing up, we ran free all over the neighborhood all summer, rode bikes all over town, and absolutely walked to school- all of which would be considered child endangerment now.

I am a firm believer in the evils of processed food. I could write paragraphs about why our kids shouldn't be consuming mass quantities of them. However, study after study has also shown that scare tactics generally don't permanently modify behavior so I think the commercial might be teetering towards poor taste and not really helping the cause of healthier eating to try to combat the obesity pandemic in our children.

calliek, FWIW my kids walk about 2-1/2 miles to and from school and during the vast majority of their playdates there is outdoor activity. But your main point is clearly valid.
