All this TAC talk got me going back to the books, and the Boigraphies of St. John Fisher, St Thomas More, et. al., and a thought came to me
How wonderful God is, and how he can take our bad, and like an artist turn it in to good. Also, how he loves irony.
Case in point, it was the pride of Henry Tudor that rent England from the Body of Christ (read Eamon Duffy or J. J. Scarisbrick and see how truly Catholic the average Englishman was), and yet it was the pride of Mr. V. Gene Robinson that God was able to use to bring back England in to the Body of Christ.

Diarmaid Maculloch has written on the good state of repair the English Catholic Church was in at the dawn of the Reformation: generally free from corruption and blessed with competent clergy; not at all like Germany.
Also ironic, it may well be those returning Anglicans who take part in a much needed housecleaning of the present Catholic Church, in England and the United States.

Thanx for the author recommendation.
However, as the old Chinese expression goes ...before drinking from the well, consider the source of the water.
After Googling him I got this recent write up on him:

cultu...ristianity.html
Based on this, it sounds like he's more of a Karen Armstrong/Marcus Borg/ John Dominic Crossan type. No?
If no, what book(s) do you recommend?

Oh, I'm well aware of his lefty leanings and wasn't necessarily recommending his work, just citing it. Nevertheless, his Cranmer bio and history of the Reformation are remarkable achievements (if overlong for this attention-challenged baby boomer).
