It applies to most every aspect of business and perhaps life.

As a director, when I want to shoot underwater, I hire the best underwater DP I can find, not the best DP who happens to have a dive card. When I want steak, I go to a steak house, not a good restaurant that happens to serve steak. And when I want a perspective on the advertising business, I read the Ad Contrarian's blog, not the blog of some other smart person who might occasionally have an opinion about the ad business.

There's only room for one or two General Motorses, but gazillions of opportunities to exploit a niche.
