Welcome back, Rabbi. You've been sorely missed.
I'm sorry you have to deal with the medication problem, but I hope you feel better and get back into blogging.

I agree with what Responding said.
Don't worry about the meme if you don't care for it, it's not like Adam Ragil responded to it either .
You keep on worrying us... closing down the blog at least twice, stepping away and not posting for a while... good to see that you're planning on sticking around here for a while.
Since you're back, though, any comments about my last post?

It's an interesting issue. I remember long ago when I first tried meditation, I was concerned that I would gain Bhudda-like contentment and "lose my edge." As it has turned out, my edginess (intellectual restlessness, questing, annoyance with easy answers) is a well-cemented component of my personality, and no amount of medication, meditation or exercise seems to eradicate it. But then again, I haven't tried Zoloft.

My one comment is what you already hit upon: the issue of dressing formally is to engender a certain awareness on OUR part, not to impress God. If we treat tefillah like a job interview, maybe we'll see it as important as a job interview. I think this is a contemporary manifestation of the age-old issue of employing cultural conventions in worship, beginning with Korbanot, through the matbei'a of the amidah (like you'd address a king - kiss-up, petition, thanks). see the Abarbanel's intro to Vayikra, ve-acamo"l.

I take zoloft and it doesn't feel like rose-colored glasses at all. It's more like, every time I start to get depressed, it just keeps me from sinking into it. I bounce back in minutes instead of days.

Anonymous (an obvious coward who uses anonymizer) - what is the relevance of publicizing that anti-Slifkin site here?
Anyway, folks should be aware that Zoloft, Paxil and other SSRIs are a double-edged sword. It works wonders on some people, but can also trigger self-destructive tendencies (e.g., suicide, self-mutilation) in others. Sometimes the latter reaction helps to diagnose one as being bi-polar.
Determining the appropriate psychotropic drug(s) is an art, not a science.

i hear what you're saying. i find that it makes it so that things that should bother me don't. it's not easy to get agitated, let alone depressed. agitation is, for me, a very creative state.

Have you seen Oliver Sacks "The man who mistook his wife for a hat"? I belive that in that book he has a chapter about a fellow with Turretts Synd. Without the meds he couldn't function at his job but was funny, a party animal, and a jazz drummer. With the meds he kept his job but but lost his love of life and stopped all the fun things.
Conclusion? (But you should still read the book) He took the meds throughout the week and didn't on the weekends.
Worthwhile reading.

welcome back.
The effects of meds on basic personality is a controversial one.Overall the meds treat disorders. But there is so much more to know about the different types of ADD and the border of bipolar disorder.
Hope you find what works best for you.And what's the matter with time off for games and sports?

Well, next time you drop of the face of the planet and decide to play solitaire, remember those of us who are still left checking your blog whenever they can scrounge up a few shekel and make their way through the stormy wind and rain to see what is happening with their favorite ADDeRabbi. Just kidding, the weather here is still beautiful, jealous? I actually wanted to write a real e-mail, including a real life ADDefollower's halachik question, but the computer in said internet cafe has a vendetta against me and wasted half an hour of my precious time.
Will probably be in touch sometime next month. Sorry for taking over the comments section for a personal message, but it was vaguely relevent.
Loving every second of life in the Holy Land,
TM
