If I understand the suhya correctly the issue of how much time one wiats between meat and milk by definition can't be a family minhag, rather it is a communal minhag - similar to the time one is expected to bring in the shabbat.

BTW, I also think that the process was very backward. That reminds me of the guy who told me that we must bring as many Goyim from Russia as possible. Why?
