I was raised on a farm and haven't lived rural for over 23 yrs. now. Just reading your post brings back some memories for me.
Thanks,

I grew up on a farm miles from civilization and not once did we ever need an exterminator. My grandparents have lived there for 70 years and never needed an exterminator. Come on...a few bugs and a mouse or two? Unless the bugs are termites or ants, there is no need to pay for an exterminator to give you cancer.

You are pretty much right. The worst of the problem was absolutely the ants. Tiny little ones that got through even the tightest sealed doors. Also fire ants that liked to make nice mounds in the yard. A mouse isn't a problem, mice stuck between rafters in the attic IS a problem. Plus I'm a bleeding heart and want them caught live and released somewhere else rather than killed / maimed. Finally, termites are a potential problem so the service maintains bait stations / traps around the foundation and we carry a termite bond to insure against them too. It hasn't happened yet, but if I find a copper head, rattle snake, or water moccasin I'm calling the professional for that too.
Thanks for the comment!

It's stuff like this that reaffirms the numbers that buying a house is more expensive than renting in much of the country and definately where I live.
This is the problem with our society, "I'm a bleeding heart and want them caught live and released somewhere else rather than killed / maimed." Come on...their mice. If you eat any meat you are causing far more death than killing a couple mice. On top of that do you have any idea how many mice are killed when grain is picked? We, as a country, are losing our back bone.
