I have to say that I have a great amount of sympathy for most of the people in those articles who lost their jobs and are now in a dire situation. On the other hand, I have a great amount of apathy for the others who, due to lack of saving/planning/anything financially smart, are in this situation. The one story that comes to mind is the Taylors. The husband is a homebuilder, and they built a home in Florida while trying to sell their home in California. Now the Cali home won't sell, his homebuilding business is drying up and "this has ruined our lives". My question to them... what the heck were you doing during the past 5 years when the real estate market was BOOMING?! My guess is they were living it up, spending and saving nothing figuring the times are good and I can always start saving tomorrow...
