I like to watch 'cribs' as a way to appreciate what I have when I start to want more stuff.
It is the perfect cure-all for materialism for me because I see how they talk it all up as if their life depended on the stuff and I find that I am very happy with my life, here and now.

When I see shows about extremely wealthy people I always wonder, "how much money do they keep in their checking account?". I know, it's weird.

Heh, I like the Forbes Lifestyle quarterly too. I actually know one of the guys who had had his products featured there. One less expensive way to appreciate luxury is to go for the smaller items. For instance, I'm into knifes and watches. With knifes you can own the best of the best custom-made for a couple of thousand. Watches are a bit trickier but the luxury segment starts after a couple of thousand. It really pays to buy used here. For instance, you can get used speedmasters for $1000 and upwards if you have the patience. Cars are another area where luxury is not a bad idea. Unfortunately I'm clueless about cars.

I think those shows are made for average peeps who can't live like that.
